Picc. 5 Fl. Afl. Bfl. (Cbfl) - Intermediate-Advanced - Digital Download SKU: F2.FM532 Composed by Tony Bridgewater. Flute Ensemble. Score and Parts. 138 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM532. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM532). ISBN 9790570484317.Tony Bridgewater's 'Sonata for Flutes' was written in 2014-2015 for the UK based National Flute Orchestra, founded by Margaret Lowe in 2008, and was performed in Birmingham, England, conducted by the composer. It is in three movements. The first is based around lively, dancing 7/8 rhythms, with playful changes in metre, and ideas thrown between the instruments in a busy texture. There is a slow, reflective middle section, much more serious in tone, featuring various flute solos. This gradually returns to the opening ideas of the movement in an abbreviated reprise, before the music ends, fading away into the distance, on the dancing rhythm of the opening. The second movement is slow, and suggests a misty dawn landscape with its spare, calm texture. This is followed by a series of lonely solo flute melodies which gradually combine and build up into a rich, imitative texture. Tension and dissonance builds, but at the climax a solemn, low melody on bass and alto flute returns the music to a reprise of the first section, which ends very quietly and mysteriously. The rousing final movement returns to the joyful dancing rhythms of the first, now based around 10/8 time. It is a rondo, with many playful variations of the returning theme shared between all of the flutes at each appearance, while contrasting episodes are a little more relaxed and lyrical. A final coda briefly reprises motifs from earlier in the piece, before building to an exciting conclusion.

Choral Choir (4-Part) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.996561 Composed by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby. Arranged by Rebecca J. Wood. Contemporary. Octavo. 5 pages. Rebecca J. Wood #5324813. Published by Rebecca J. Wood (A0.996561). Hear 30 second clip, beginning at measure 1.  Arrangement about 1 min 30 secs performance time.  This arrangement has a surprise ending, so the title needs to be just Angels.  The chords bring wonderful emotions which climax at m 52, followed by the surprise ending, the heart-swell.  Could be done by YWIH, high school age girls or Women's Choruses.  Use for shows, but not for Competition.  Some churches might allow it for Mother's Day services.  Feedback would be appreciated.  After thinking about ANGELS, I HAVE TO TELL YOU the most important line in the song.  After the Daddy tells the child what angels are, he says, They call them angels in Heaven (beautiful spot in the son), but we call them MOTHERS down here.  Such a tear-jerker, I think!!

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1416369 Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Romantic Period. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #998049. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1416369). Brahms composed this short piano piece in 1853, when he was around 20 years old, as a contribution to a guest album. It was recently rediscovered and published in an Urtext edition. The piece has a pastoral, four-bar central theme featuring parallel thirds in the hands, giving it an orchestral character. The B section becomes more transparent, with the parallel thirds disappearing. Brahms later reused the theme of the Albumblatt in the Trio section of the Scherzo movement of his Horn Trio Op. 40, composed around 12 years later. This reworking shows the composer expanding on his original idea and making it richer and more satisfying in his mature work. The Albumblatt is considered an early, relatively simple composition compared to Brahms' three piano sonatas written that same year. However, it is still a valuable example of the young composer's genius. The main editorial issue is the unexpected piano marking in measure 47, which seems out of place for achieving a melodic climax and may have been a mistake by Brahms.

SATB choir divisi (a cappella) - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.50-6312-E Composed by Michael John Trotta. Evensong. 6 pages. MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music #50-6312-E. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music (MQ.50-6312-E). English. While this ancient Greek evening hymn text Phos hilaron is set for a cappella SATB divisi voices, it is within the reach of most mixed-voice choirs. Michael John Trotta makes tasteful use of seconds in the harmonies, lending a modern sound to the largely homophonic writing. A contrasting middle section assigns a rhythmic melody to the sopranos and builds to a climax before returning to the original unhurried material. Observing the dynamic and tempo variations will ensure an expressive performance. Duration 3:00.

Baritone voice solo and TTBB choir unaccompanied - Moderately Easy - Digital Download SKU: MQ.1.3428-E Composed by Alice Parker and Naomi Shemer. Arranged by Alice Parker. Advanced/Collegiate. Secular, 21st century. Octavo. 16 pages. Duration 6 minutes, 30 seconds. Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital #1.3428-E. Published by Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital (MQ.1.3428-E). Hebrew. This arrangement was commissioned jointly by Brad Spencer, Scott Spencer, and the Washington Men's Camerata and first performed by the Camerata on June 13, 2015, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Naomi Shemer wrote this lovely poem honoring the fabled city, Jerusalem. Its history and mystery are evoked in each verse and in the passionate refrain. At the beginning, Jerusalem is seen asleep, alone, guarding the Temple Wall at its center. Then we picture a deserted, conquered city, empty and desolate. In the third verse, the writer reveals herself as the latest and least of all the notable scribes who have invoked the city, those writers of magnificent Psalms, odes and poems. At the end, people have returned to the city, enlivening its streets and neighborhoods, adding new chapters to its story. Naomi Shemer's music, with its mixture of nostalgia, melancholy, and desire, lifts her verses to memorable phrases: one does not want the song to end. In performing the work, follow the given dynamic markings and allow the song to slowly accumulate dramatic tension, saving the climax for the final refrain. -Alice ParkerDuration: 6:30.
