Piano - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6100 Composed by Paul Dessau. This edition: Sheet music. Piano - music education - studies. Downloadable. Duration 7 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6100. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6100). Increasing numbers of recent studies provide evidence that learning to play an instrument stimulates the intelligence and promotes a general aptitude for learning. Paul Dessau realised this as early as 1948, when he composed the “Five little exercises for the hands and the brain also†in exile in Hollywood. Private piano lessons were one of the composer’s few reliable sources of income at that time. But later, too, Dessau devoted himself to teaching music, not least in bringing up his own son Maxim, to whom the “Piano piece with lots of g’s†is dedicated.

String Ensemble Cello,Double Bass,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.895607 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Kyle VanArsdalen. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 7 pages. Kyle VanArsdalen Music #6478673. Published by Kyle VanArsdalen Music (A0.895607). This arrangement of Felix Mendelssohn's Lift Thine Eyes from Elijah is meant to be played as a String Trio, and it can be played by several different combinations of instruments. Possibilities include:3 violins;     3 violas;     3 cellos;     3 basses;  â€ƒviolin, viola, cello;  violin, viola, bass;viola, cello, bass;  2 violins, 1 viola;  2 violins, 1 cello;  2 violins, 1 bass;  2 violas, 1 cello;2 violas, 1 bass;   2 cellos, 1 bass;  â€ƒ1 violin, 2 violas;  1 violin, 2 cellos;  1 violin, 2 basses;1 viola, 2 cellos;     1 viola, 2 basses;   1 cello, 2 bassesOf course, if you want to play the arrangement with more than one person on a part, that's fine too. This means you could perform it as a string orchestra piece (like a string choir), with the cellos and basses doubling each other. The reason for each part being written for all of the standard orchestral string instruments is to maximize how many different types of ensembles can perform it. This type of flexibility of ensemble is ideal for educators. It is great for teaching younger students basic chamber music skills, as well as giving students a chance to work on playing beyond 1st position. This download includes all of the parts: Violin, Viola, and Cello or Bass. Each part is written in score form. So, the Violin part includes Violin 1, 2, & 3. The Viola part includes Viola 1, 2 & 3. The Cello or Bass part includes Cello or Bass 1, 2, & 3.

SATB choir, children’s choir (SA), flute, strings, and percussion, or piano - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8776-E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. 23 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8776-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8776-E). English.Longfellow's poem, The Day is Done, speaks of evening as the time when poetry and music comealive and soothe the cares of day. The musical setting presents the opening lyrics in the children’s voices: The day is done, and the darkness falls from the wings of night. These phrases, or slight variations thereof, return as refrains throughout the song. The verses alternate between the men’s and women’s voices, with the children interjecting refrains or offering commentary in the background. Finally, the children interrupt the SATB dialogue with exclamations of a song! a song! a song! These lead to the climax of the song, given to the children’s chorus, singing And the night shall be filled with music. All voices then join together in celebration: Our song shall fill the night. The accompaniment (originally composed for piano, later adapted for flute, strings, and percussion) delights in text-setting with sparkling arpeggios depicting the celestial harmonies, and filigree patterns for the star-filled night sky. Duration: 5:00.

Piano Trio,String Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.966297 Composed by David F Golightly. Contemporary. Score and parts. 151 pages. Modrana Music Publishers Ltd #3002975. Published by Modrana Music Publishers Ltd (A0.966297). The Piano Trio no 1 was commissioned, premiered and recorded by the Fenice Trio in 2002. This substantial piano trio contained much of Golightly's symbolism and is festooned with the composers use of DFG codes. Stylistically, it represents a landmark in the genre development of Golightly, linked as it is to much of the melodic and harmonic language of his first symphony. I highly personal work it is only for the most advanced piano trios. The duration is 26 minutes. Score and parts.Review. Piano Trio Letters of Regret. (2001/2)David Golightly's piano trio Letters of Regret was commissioned by The Fenice Trio, composed during the summer of 2001 and completed in February 2002. The first performance took place at the Middlesbrough Theatre in June 2002. The work is in three movements (Demon, Angel and Regrets). Demon, the shortest movement of the work, opens with a rhythmical gesture from the piano, soon joined by the strings. This moderately fast movement is actually some sort of whimsical Allegretto sometimes of Russian flavour. Reviewing David's First Symphony, the composerArthur Butterworth remarked that Golightly might well be a British Shostakovich.Indeed, the Piano Trio calls the Russian composer to mind, particularly so in this slightly ironic movement that rises up to a short-lived ghostly climax abruptly cut short. Angel opens mysteriously with ethereal static string textures softly punctuated by the piano. Later, the string's sustained notes are gently accompanied by piano arpeggios. Then the strings, and later the piano, make some unsuccessful attempts at a tune, hesitantly so and with some glissandi contradicting the attempted melody. Eventually, the cello, followed by the violin, launches a sorrowful lyrical  song, still disrupted by nervous interjections eventually short-lived.The Angel movement, though remains emotionally and harmonically ambiguous throughout. It too ends unobtrusively. The Demon and Angel movements actually act as a twofold introduction to the last movement. Regrets that is some sort of theme and seven variations, a series of letters, written but not sent,as the composer remarks. This predominantly lyrical, often nostalgic movement is the emotional heart of what is obviously a deeply personal statement on the composer's part. Golightly's Piano Trio is a superbly crafted, beautifully moving work, not unworthy its models(Shostakovich or John Ireland), and a highly personal, quite accessible work of substance that deserves wider recognition and that should be eagerly picked-up by trios willing to add a new substantial work to their repertoire.Hubert Culot. Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.973026 Composed by Francis Kayali. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score. 26 pages. Francis Kayali #5718759. Published by Francis Kayali (A0.973026). Composed between January and March 2003, the Suite for Piano was written for a recital by pianist Qi Liu (1976-2017), at Stony Brook University, in March of 2003.The opening of the first movement evokes bells, not unlike those in Rachmaninoff’s Russian Easter (the finale of his First Suite for Two Pianos). This is contrasted with a short and murky rising gesture. The middle section incorporates pianistic patterns (some reminiscent of Debussy), a yearning Iberian melody, and a barely-recognizable snippet of Chopin used for a climax. The murky gesture eventually returns, introducing a triumphant statement of the opening bells.Early on, I had decided the piece should include references to the other pieces on the recital’s program: Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 18 (op. 31, No. 3) and Brahms’s F minor Sonata (op. 5). As soon as I had word from Qi that she was going to play the Beethoven, I immediately wanted to hear it. I wasn’t familiar with the piece, and since I didn’t have a score or a recording of it at home, I decided to download it in MIDI format from the internet. Unbeknownst to me, the computer’s rendition transformed the lively second movement scherzo into a slow-moving hymn which reminded me of the Ode to Joy. I was quite surprised the next morning when I went to the music library and listened to a recording played by a human. Nonetheless, I was drawn to the melody, and I found the slow effect interesting, so I decided to base my middle movement (the slow movement) around the theme of Beethoven’s scherzo, making it the hidden theme for a short set of variations. The end of the movement also contains less direct references to the music of Brahms (very short allusions to the Sonata and to the Variations on a Theme by Haydn). The last movement explores fast and light fingerwork, in a sort of toccata or capriccio, providing a flashy ending to the piece. As in the first movement, the form is A-B-A. Before the return of the first section, a little dance evokes the opening of the piece. (The murky gesture from the first movement also finds its way into this last movement). Each of the three movements experiments at one point with using the sustain pedal in order to create a wash of sound. This effect is used most prominently in the second movement.Movement I: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-NKcs076UIMovement II: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSxkOcdlpiYMovement III: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CntmWYdOA9Y

Concert Band - Digital Download SKU: IZ.CBW221-S Composed by Gary Gazlay. Score. 16 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #CBW221-S. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CBW221-S). 8.5 x 11 inches. This chorus is a setting of a sonnet from an 1874 collection by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807–1882). It vividly describes the appearance of The Galaxy (The Milky Way) with a stream of images: “Torrent of light, the “river of the air whose bed of “glimmering stars appear “Like gold and silver sands in some ravine / Where mountain streams have left their channels bare! Before sharing his poetic opinion of just what The Galaxy is, Longfellow dismisses the view of the eleventh-century Spaniard, who sees it as “the pathway for Santiago Matamoros* to “descend…in celestial armor to save the Christians from the Muslim Moors. Nor does he endorse the ancient Greek view that The Galaxy amounts to a sky “scorched [by] the hoofs of Phaeton's§ horses, when he almost set the world on fire by driving his sun chariot too close to the earth.Ultimately Longfellow sees The Galaxy as “the white drift of worlds o'er chasms of sable, / The star-dust…whirled a loft…From the invisible chariot-wheels of God.The music reflects many of the poem's images, for example: women's voices alone at “gold and silver sands; an open fifth at “channels bare; a quicker tempo at the militant reference to the Spaniard; longer notes at “heav'ns were fair; fugato entrances and a faster tempo at “hot coursers trod; upward spiraling sixteenth notes at “stardust that is whirled aloft; and a climax followed by a softening uncharacteristic chord progression at “invisible chariot-wheels of God.

For standard large orchestra: 2, 2, 2, 2 - 4, 3, 3, 1, timp, strDuration: ~11 minutes, 3 contiguous movementsJim Hopson's 'West Coast Suite' is a new, exciting orchestral piece inspired by the majestic geography of the Pacific Northwest. Featuring beautiful melodies that soar over driving, syncopated rhythms, this piece makes for an exciting overture for any Pops, Classics, or Canadian Content programme. From the composer: This Suite is written in three contiguous movements, named for Vancouver, BC’s most iconic features: ‘City’, ‘Sea’, and ‘Mountains’. ‘City’ opens with a flourish of harmonic architecture which morphs into a decidedly cosmopolitan syncopated groove, reflecting the city’s bustling energy. ‘Sea’ features a simple, plaintive melody supported by gently undulating waves of harmony which slowly build to a tempestuous climax and then recede into calmness. ‘Mountains’ begins as a gentle stroll through the North Shore’s idyllic peaks. The final movement gradually builds velocity, culminating in a breakneck sprint up North Vancouver’s infamous ‘Grouse Grind’.For more information about the composer: www.phonosmusic.com

Prepare for a dramatic musical journey along one of America’s most beautiful thoroughfares, the Beartooth Highway. Eastern Ascent takes a white-knuckled climb from the lush forest floor of Rock Creek Canyon up steep switchbacks past sheer 2,000 foot drops to the highway’s summit amid the alpine tundra at 10, 947 feet of elevation. The music's tension matches the roadway's rising elevation in incremental shifts from calm sonorities to raucously intense dissonances. Brief roadside respites appear as islands of quiet lyricism. The band unites in jubilant exultation as it depicts the extraordinary other worldliness and wildness viewed at the highway’s peak. Listen for hints of the motive from the classic hymn tune HAMBURG in the respites and in the climax. Eastern Ascent is set for large scale concert band or wind ensemble and is suitable for advanced high school and higher players. Purchase price includes full score and set of parts.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1347261 By Jennifer Oleksy. By Lowell Mason. Arranged by Jennifer Oleksy. Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Praise & Worship,Religious. Score. 4 pages. Jennifer Oleksy #931742. Published by Jennifer Oleksy (A0.1347261). This intermediate/ advanced arrangement of Joy to the World intersperses original melody with the classic Christmas hymn.  It is meant to set the scene of a dark, anxious, and weary world desperate for the arrival of a Savior.  The original melody builds from sadness to hope, and at that moment the beautiful chords of Joy to the World begin, like the light of Christ's arrival breaking onto a dreary world. To me, Joy to the World perfectly reflects both the sentiments of Christ's birth AND His second coming - I wanted this arrangement to be relevant to people now.  So many of us are desperate for the saving, the peace, and the healing that only He can give.  The world feels dark and scary, represented by music mixed throughout the piece, but Christ's coming truly brings joy to the world - magnificent, majestic, and genuine joy.  It did then, it does now, and it will in the future.  This arrangement combines a sense of the world's darkness with the sense of Christ's triumph.  It is complex and majestic in parts, but sweet and simple in others.  And after a grandiose climax, the simple ending is meant to bring us back to where it all began - in the humble setting of a stable in Bethlehem.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553348 Composed by Edward MacDowell. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Contemporary,Holiday,Standards,Wedding. 10 pages. RayThompsonMusic #2081651. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553348). Edward Alexander MacDowell (December 18, 1860 – January 23, 1908) was an American composer and pianist of the late Romantic period. He was best known for his second piano concerto and his piano suites Woodland Sketches, Sea Pieces and New England Idylls. Woodland Sketches, Op. 51, is a suite of ten short piano pieces . It was written during an 1896 stay at MacDowell's summer retreat in Peterborough, New Hampshire, where each piece was inspired by a different aspect of the surrounding nature and landscapeThe suite's first piece, To a Wild Rose, is MacDowell's best known single work according to the musicologist H. Wiley Hitchcock, and it achieved what Bomberger described as phenomenal popularity. MacDowell believed the work's popularity arose because the publisher spread its score generously across two pages. The piece begins with a spare melody, based on a simple one from the Brotherton Indians. The melody is played in short fragments and accompanied by chords and pedal points. The climax consists of a repeated dominant ninth chord, which can also be heard as a version of the Tristan chord. The piece concludes with a Scotch snap rhythm. Crawford opined that the piece's harmony saves it from blandness.Arranged for wind quintet…It could have been written for wind quintet!Other pieces are available.

Secular, 21st Century, Americana, Children, Creation/Nature, Hope/Assurance. Instrument part. 15 pages. Duration 5 minutes, 42 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8322-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8322-E). UPC: 600313483226. English. The three a cappella choral pieces that comprise “A Whitman Triptych†were composed between 2012 and 2014. O Setting Sun was commissioned by the Madison Chamber Choir, Madison, Wisconsin, Anthony Cao, conductor, and was premiered on April 20th, 2012. “What is the Grass†was composed for Cappella SF, Ragnar Bohlin, conductor, and is being premiered on tonight’s concert. Facing West was commissioned in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge by the International Orange Chorale, Zane Fiala, conductor, and was premiered on May 27th, 2012. I first set Whitman to music in 1986,when I adapted part of “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed†as the basis for my composition “Invocation and Dance.†I went on to set “Good-Bye, My Fancy†for Male Chorus and Soprano Saxophone in 1992, and “Song of the Open Road†for Mixed Chorus and Piano in 2004. Like so many composers, I have found the visionary quality of Whitman’s verse inspiring; the vigor and intensity of the poetry seem naturally to draw out music. “What is the Grass?†is also an adaptation of a much longer poem, one of Whitman’s deepest, and most mysterious. The poem begins as a child-like meditation on grass; as hope, as an embodiment of new life and new growth in the plant world. Then suddenly there is a somber turn with the line “And now it seems to me the beautiful uncut hair of graves.†Here Whitman enters an extended mediation on how grass connects life and death, informed by his experiences in the Civil War. Hope returns with the line: “They are alive and well somewhere,†leading to the mysterious final line: “And to die is different from what anyone supposed, and luckier…†Here Whitman affirms that death can be an initiation into a broader participation of existence. In the words of poet Ivan M. Granger, Whitman offers a “Zen-like riddle that doesn’t offer an answer so much as a pathway of questioning.†My musical setting follows Whitman’s exploration, first taking a child’s point of view, expressed with lilting melodies set in a lively compound meter. The entry of the tenor soloist indicates a change of mood to the serious. The first mood returns, leading to a climax on the words “And led forward life…â€, set in 9-part harmony. The mood turns reverent, as the tenor soloist intones: “All goes onward and outward; nothing collapses.†The piece ends with a tone of gentle, slightly ironic questioning. -David ConteDuration: 5:42
