Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1384057 Composed by David Fraser. 20th Century,21st Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score. 42 pages. David Fraser #968418. Published by David Fraser (A0.1384057). David Fraser wrote the first 41 measures of ‘Rhapsody No. 1’ in 1997. When playing the original 41 measures of this piece in 2019, Fraser noted that the music had some resemblance to works by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This encouraged Fraser to compose the remainder of this piece in a manner reminiscent of Rachmaninoff and, consequently, author a suite of solo piano pieces as homages to some of his favorite composers. In the “Adagio” section, which starts on Page 3, Fraser uses an inversion of a small melody from Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 4, variation 18. Specifically, Rachmaninoff’s piece starting with the D-flat of beat one in measure 9 going backwards to measure 8 to the C, B-flat, A-flat and B-flat of the fourth beat is replicated in Fraser’s piece in the pickup to beat three through beat four of measure 10, however with rhythmic changes. In addition, there are some harmonic similarities between Rachmaninoff and Fraser’s music. This is the full version of the Rhapsody which is the first piece from 'Hommages: Suite pour le Piano'. 45 pages. Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1405315 By Hank Williams. By Hank Williams. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Country. 26 pages. Peet du Toit #988363. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1405315). Jambalaya (On the Bayou) is a song written and recorded by American country music singer Hank Williams that was first released in July 1952. Named for a Creole and Cajun dish, jambalaya, it spawned numerous cover versions and has since achieved popularity in several different music genres.Since the original melody of the song was from Grand Texas, the song is a staple of Cajun culture. However, although Williams kept a Louisiana theme, the song is not a true cajun song, which helped the song gain widespread popularity:Ethnic music is usually unpalatable for a mass market unless it is diluted in some way (Harry Belafonte's calypsos, Paul Simon's Graceland
the list is endless). The broader audience related to 'Jambalaya' in a way that it could never relate to a true cajun two-step led by an asthmatic accordion and sung in patois. The Carpenters featured the song, in an up-tempo pop version with country flourishes, on their 1973 album Now & Then. Their version was released as a single outside the United States in 1974 and sold well in the UK (peaking at number 12 in the charts) and Japan.Presented here as a brass quintet with up-tempo percussion, there is some resemblance of the Carpenters' cover, but also demands spectacular playing from all the players. Enjoy!

Picc. 6 Fl. Afl. Bfl. Cbfl - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: F2.FM538 Composed by Jo Griffiths. Flute Ensemble - Piccolo, 6 Concert Flutes, Alto Flute, Bass Flute, Contrabass Flute. Score and parts. 38 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM538. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM538). ISBN 9790570484379.Trapeze is essentially programmatic. The introduction and ending have no resemblance to the main body of the piece. Imagine here introductions and preparations made before the actual performance begins. The overall mood is fun and entertaining with a slight sense of trepidation. The continuous semiquaver movements denote the continuous back and forth repetition of the swinging of the trapeze, where the slightly disjointed melody gives a feeling of anticipation. What is coming next? How high? How fast? The conclusion imitates the introduction, very slightly changed, as this time we have dismounting and taking bows.Hopefully both the performers and audience will feel somewhat uplifted.

Woodwind Ensemble Bassoon - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755244 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. 47 pages. Sy Brandon #3590241. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755244). Cycles for bassoon quartet honors those who lost loved ones in the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The title reflects both the living earth upon which we live and the fortitude of humanity.             The first movement depicts serenity interrupted by bombastic resemblances of earthquakes and tsunamis. The movement is called The Living Earth as our planet is still evolving by constantly building up pressure and releasing that pressure. The opening serene section uses key clicks and wind sounds in the serenity section. Pitch bends in the melody are designed to resemble a shakuhachi. Syncopated explosions that use polytonal pentatonic scales represent the earthquake. Rapid ascending and descending scale patterns depict the resultant tsunami.             The second movement is a hymn song for the souls of the dead. It is called Ashes to Ashes as it represents a different cycle, one of death and rebirth. Pentatonic scales abound once again but this time they modulate gently from one tonality to another instead of being used simultaneously.             A song of redemption and hope for the survivors is the theme for the third and final movement, Resiliency of the Spirit. It depicts the strength of the human spirit and it is the cycle of joy growing out of sorrow. Taiko drumming is the major influence in this movement. It begins with a foot stomp followed by the drummers warming up. A staccato rhythmic section that imitates the drums follows this. A hymn-like theme in pentatonic is interpolated over this rhythmic drumming bringing the movement and the piece to a hopeful conclusion.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1208769 Composed by Jonathan Williams. Contemporary. Score. 5 pages. Jonathan Williams #806871. Published by Jonathan Williams (A0.1208769). Vagabond Jonathan Williams (b. 1991)As the title suggests, Vagabond lacks a tonal center, or key (i.e. C major). Some refer to all such music as “atonal,” yet sections of this piece include a variety of chords and chord progressions that hint towards traditional tonality. For example, the first three rolled chords could be labeled B diminished, A major seventh, and F dominant ninth, respectively. Regardless of their possible names, these are chords commonly heard in tonal music, especially classical and jazz works. While the piece weaves through hinted key areas, the melody wanders as well. The first two measures of the unaccompanied, opening theme include all twelve pitch classes (A, A♯, B,
, G, G♯) exactly once. This is called a “row,” and it is essential to twelve-tone music as first created by Arnold Schönberg (1874 - 1951). The remainder of Vagabond exclusively includes manipulations of the opening row. Various renderings of the row are audibly similar, while the majority obscure their resemblance by splitting the row across the hands, combining adjacent notes into chords, or modifying the rhythm. After a final reprise of the opening, Vagabond commences with a series of fading chords and a last chord that may sound like a dominant seventh chord in its least common inversion. In this context, the sound and feel of a dominant seventh chord is lost. While this quality is frequently used as a penultimate chord to instill intensity before an anticipated finale, in Vagabond it serves to let the listener imagine an endless wandering.
