The Bremen Town Musicians is a fun fairy tale about four elderly animals-a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster-who decide to become musicians. On their way to town, they find a house in the woods. But it is the home of robbers! The animals, not knowing any better, decide to sing for them. The noise is so horrible that the robbers are convinced monsters have come to attack them and they run away. The animals move into the house and live out the rest of their lives in comfort. It is my hope that this piece captures the fun of the story, along with the dissonance of the animals 'singing'.This piece is designed for an early elementary level piano student with minimal hand position changes and a few accidentals. Performance time is approximately 1:30.

I was my purpose to project the extremely interesting and expressive harmonic material of this composition into a larger instrumental apparatus and thereby to make its future-oriented harmonic structures more manifest and plastic. The strings can be presented in two different forms: either as a string quartet and a string quintet, or as string quartet and tutti strings. The intro follows the second half of the original carol before breaking into a more upbeat fast-paced romp that trades the melody across all the instruments. It is a shorter piece that demands the technique of some syncopation and embellishments on the main theme. Each part is important between the melody and chord building with many chords having an added 7th and 9th to contextually bring this piece to the next level. This version, which transposes from F minor to F# minor, along with a horn line that is in the upper register, provides a challenge for fingerings that will test the dexterity of valved instruments.
