Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1262076 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Richard Hirsch. Instructional,Multicultural,Traditional,World. 3 pages. Richard Hirsch #855138. Published by Richard Hirsch (A0.1262076). I offer an arrangement in D major of the traditional Flamenco Tanguillo de Cádiz as a second guitar to accompany my arrangement of the Tanguillo for solo guitar. The solo guitar arrangement is written in A major. To work as guitar 1 in the duet, the solo version must be played with the capo at the fifth fret to transpose the score to D major. This is normal practice in Flamenco guitar playing. The guitarist simply plays the score as if the capo were the nut. The tones/notes are then referred to as if they were being played in the first position, but they sound of course different.I created the arrangement in D major to accompany a student I taught to play the solo version so we could play and perform together. It was a lot of fun working on the arrangement and we had a great time playing the Tanguillo as a duet. It was also a big hit with audiences. I particularly recommend this arrangement for instructors teaching the solo version to intermediate students of Flamenco guitar, especially young students who will find it easier to play the Tanguillo at the fifth fret in D major. It is a great inspiration for  students to play along with their instructor, making music together. The arrangement also, of course, works just as well as a duet for two students or two experienced guitarists. The D minor section contains the typical Andalusian cadence found in the more â??jondoâ? styles of Flamenco and serves as a first introduction to these darker more serious â??sonidos negrosâ? as Manuel de Falla referred to them. The many taps or â??golpesâ? found in the score are, as I said in the description of the Tanguillo solo, not absolutely essential, but they definitely add more â??punchâ? to the performance and give the arrangement a more earthy Gitano Andaluz character.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1135733 Composed by JohnWillard Utuk. Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Instructional,Video Game. Score. 18 pages. JohnWillard Utuk #735794. Published by JohnWillard Utuk (A0.1135733). The Etherea Suite, Volume 1 is for intermediate to advanced players who enjoy lyrical, exciting, and showy repertoire, while expressing their imagination through their playing. Players get to musically explore the mountains, the desert, volcanoes, time travel to ancient times, and fight in battle! Volume I of the suite represents three main characters from the sci-fi, fantasy book Trials of the Innermost (release date May 26, 2023). Each movement has a distinct feel and reflects each character's personality. This edition features performance notes written by the composer, including musical elements unique to each movement, fun facts, and personal influences JohnWillard had in mind when creating the work. A graphic of the musical cryptogram system used to make the melodies for each character is featured at the end of the notes. The three movements imitate a sonata, with the overall order of the suite is slow, slow, fast. Some teaching elements in the first movement I. Vayriel: Protector of the Mountains, include: scalar passages (A natural minor scale), shifting hands position, rolled chords, repeated left hand patterns, ornaments, and pedaling. II. Zinvar: Peacemaker of the Volcanic Rifts is more challenging, but has more room for musicality, expression, exploring different touches on the piano, and ethereal use of pedaling, like the sostenuto pedal (if you have one!) The movement opens with a mysterious, wave-like arpeggiated left hand pattern, similar to pieces of Chopin or Rachmaninoff. The B section is practice in using the sostenuto (middle) pedal while playing softly, imitating Gregorian Chant. Best of all the ending sounds harder than it actually is and you get to play as loud as possible! III. Idrilia: Warrior of the Desert is fast paced, rhythmic, and inspired by video games. This piece is a nice supplement for students learning techniques found in toccatas, nocturnes, and pieces that require a big, full sound. The longest and most advanced movement, players can enjoy using all the things: pedaling, accents, quick changes in dynamic contrast, and a lyrical B section. Technique requires comfort with arpeggios, chord inversions, octaves, and sensitivity to voicing. Once mastered, this movement can be both fun to play as a stand-alone recital piece or an exciting treat to play for friends and family. You'll find yourself humming the simple melody as it transforms throughout the work, and the ending is a chance to play big chords by using the full range of the keyboard.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.837485 Composed by Brett L. Wery. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Jazz. Score and part. 53 pages. Sonata Grendel Publishing #4346989. Published by Sonata Grendel Publishing (A0.837485). Samuel Detweiler is a superb musician and accomplished saxophonist, equally at home in both jazz and classical idioms. Naturally, I was thrilled when Sam told me of his plans to commission a work that incorporated improvisation in what would otherwise be a neo-classical sonata form. The result is a piece that is technically demanding for most classical saxophonists but also requires a reasonable amount of proficiency in improvisation. Much of classical music is driven by development (the restatement, fragmentation, exploitation, evolution, and eventual transformation of musical ideas). In this sonata much of the development is left to the performer. The first movement is in sonata allegro form with the development being largely improvised. The second movement leaves one entire statement of the form open for improvisation much like any jazz standard. The third movement is a sonata rondo, again, leaving the development section open for improvisation. This 17 minute piece is ideal for college and professional players. Xylophone Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596588 Composed by Juan María Solare. 20th Century,Contemporary,Graduation. 7 pages. Juan Maria Solare #5719151. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596588). Juan María Solare: Post this and neo that  a meta-toccata for solo xylophone    Post this and neo that means, in this piece, the coexistence of different musical languages and techniques, such as toccata, blues, baroque or atonal (twelve-tone harmonic fields) – and everything with a tango nuevo flair.  Sometimes, this term is slightly pejorative and usually heard when conservative concert-goers and true-music lovers grumble about the proliferation of superfluous aesthetic movements with prefixes such as post- or neo-, or suffixes such as -ism or -ologie. Choosing this expression as title is actually an irony at both (conservatism and pluralism) and as such mainly a general mockery at the urge of putting labels (possibly in order to sell better).  If you analyze carefully, you will find styles and devices such as post-Prokofiev, meta-tango, neo-renaissance, nano-variations, turbo-harmony, ultra-melodism and hyper-rhythmic in this piece of crypto-music. If you analyze even more carefully you will find nearly everything. And if you omni-analyze it, you will find the supra-truth.  Anyway, what I found is eight times the same structure: A A B A (whereby B is an integrated contrast); the macro form also follows this idea of two similar statements, one quite different, reappearance of the first statement varied but recognizable.  Post this and neo that for xylophone was composed in Bremen (Germany) on February 5th and 6th, 2014, encouraged by a call for works made by Samuel Stokes. The piece was selected on that call for works (6 pieces among 33), recorded by Samuel Stokes and offered at his homepage: http://www.samuelstokesmusic.com/xylophone.html  Juan María Solare   www.JuanMariaSolare.com     Alternative spelling: Post-this and neo-that Official title in German: Post dies und Neo das Official title in Spanish: Post esto y neo aquello     ISWC (International Standard Musical Work Code): T-803.342.175-0 Datenbankwerknummer (GEMA): 14269626

Small Ensemble B-Flat Clarinet,Cello,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1028192 Composed by Jeremy Hart. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 37 pages. Jeremy Graham Hart #6590413. Published by Jeremy Graham Hart (A0.1028192). Oscillation began as an experiment in coordination of a melody and harmony which are based on different means of organization. To this end, the clarinet is treated separately from the string quartet. The clarinet melody is constructed by means of limited interval usage. In mm.1–3 it can be observed that the melodic intervals are strictly limited to the use of a major 2nd/minor 7th or a major 6th/minor 3rd. By contrast, the string quartet has no limitation on its intervallic usage but always strives towards triadic harmonies in its accompanimental capacity and tends to converge on harmonies diatonic to the key. In addition, despite the proliferation of non-chord tones and transitionary passages in the string quartets’ music, the stable harmonies are written to have fairly parsimonious motion between them (if one were to reduce out the NCTs etc.) The coordination of these two separate logics is done by the selection of anchor-pitches for the melodic phrases. For example, the melodic phrase in mm.4–7 oscillates around the pitch of G natural (transposed in the score), which it shares with the F major/minor 7th chord that is heard as the harmonic goal of the strings in m.7. The teleology of the work can largely be traced in its melodic construction. Its opening phrase of mm.1–3 is anchored on G natural and ends on a C sharp, a tritone above the anchor, to simulate a half-cadence effect. The second phrase of mm.4–7 is still written on G natural but it ends on G as well, forming the authentic cadence and establishing a basic period as well as the work’s first theme. This is followed by second period which represents a dominant relationship to the first. The phrase at mm.10–13.2 is a rather extended utterance in comparison to the first two and is anchored on D natural. This is followed by 4-stage call and response across the ensemble (excluding the second violin) that leads the first section to a close at m.16 on a C diminished triad. Melodically, the first section is characterised by its limited used of a major 2nd/minor 7th or a major 6th/minor 3rd interval. At m.17, the second section follows much the same process as the first, using anchor pitches as a means of coordination and formal definition, and alternating soloistic clarinet playing with activated harmonies in the strings. The primary difference is in the character of the second section’s theme with regards to its rhythmic profile as well as its intervallic content. Namely, these are limited to the use of a minor 3rd or minor 2nd and their inversions. The second section draws to a close at m.32, returning to the tonic harmony of the key. With the first and second sections complete, the work now proceeds into a developmental section. Mm.33–84 largely consists of development of the two themes by manipulation of intervallic content as well as adjusting the placement of the thematic material withing the accompanimental context. This does include juxtaposition of the two themes (though one typicall becomes integrated into to accompaniment) as can be seen between the violin and viola at m.39. Variety is heightened by the introduction of episodic material such as the secondary melody performed by the clarinet at mm.40–41. The Lento section starting at m.53 introduces further rhythmic and metric adjustment of the thematic content. A varied recapitulation occurs at mm.85–113 and is followed by a coda at mm.114–131.

Published by KVAMusic Edition (A0.768518). Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns (9 October 1835-16 December 1921) was a French composer, organist, conductor and pianist. He was a musical prodigy and made his concert debut at the age of ten. After studying at the Paris Conservatoire he followed a conventional career as a church organist, first at Saint-Merri, Paris and, from 1858, La Madeleine, the official church of the French Empire. After leaving the post twenty years later, he was a successful freelance pianist and composer, in demand in Europe and the Americas. As a young man, Saint-Saëns was enthusiastic for the most modern music of the day, particularly that of Schumann, Liszt and Wagner, although his own compositions were generally within a conventional classical tradition. He was a scholar of musical history, and remained committed to the structures worked out by earlier French composers. This brought him into conflict in his later years with composers of the impressionist and dodecaphonic schools of music; although there were neoclassical elements in his music, foreshadowing works by Stravinsky and Les Six, he was often regarded as a reactionary in the decades around the time of his death. He wrote the Oratorio de Noël (Christmas Oratorio) at the end of the 1850s and completed it in 1860. The first performanse was at the church La Madeleine in Paris December 1869. The work is dedicated to A Madame la Vicomtesse de Grandval. The work is originally scored for five soloists, soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, tenor and baritone, mixed choir (except no. 4 which is for SSAA), harp, organ and strings (in this edition the choir has been transcribed for a SSAA choir). Texts in the Oratorio de Noël is drawn from the Old and New Testaments: (1. Instrumental).    2. Luke 2,8-14.   3. Psalm 39,1.   4. John 11.27.   5. Psalm 117, 26-28.   6. Score and part. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #847646. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1254033). Saint-Saëns: The Swan (Le Cygne) movement 13 from the Carnival of the Animals Suite. One of his most popular and widely recognized works, it is the only movement from the Carnival Suite that Saint-Saëns permitted to be performed publicly during his lifetime. This is an excellent recital encore to demonstrate melodic playing and strategic phrasing. The Carnival of the AnimalsThe Carnival of the Animals is an entertaining musical suite of fourteen movements by Camille Saint-Saëns. The work was composed for private performance by an ensemble of two pianos and solo instruments. The Swan (No. 13) is among the fourteen most famous movements. In its entirety, it lasts about 25 minutes.Saint-Saëns BackgroundCharles-Camille Saint-Saëns 1835 – 1921) was, by all means, in particular, a famous French composer, brilliant organist, and significant musical mastermind of the Romantic era. Indeed, his most famous compositions, in the long run, include his Piano Concerto No. 2 (1868), Cello Concerto No. 1 (1872), and the Danse macabre (1874). Notwithstanding, we must also add Violin Concerto No. 3 (1880), Symphony No. 3 (the Organ Symphony, 1886), and, it must be remembered, Carnival of the Animals (1886) to the list.ChildhoodIt is essential to realize that Saint-Saëns was undoubtedly, in fact, a child musical prodigy. Consequently, with this in mind, he made his concert debut, albeit at ten years old. Another critical point to remember is that he expressly studied at the Paris Conservatoire, then, despite reality, conversely followed a traditional career path as a church organist. Nevertheless, twenty years later, on the other hand, he left to become a successful freelance pianist and composer despite, as has been noted, his former employment situation. Furthermore, his performances were, after all, markedly in demand - not only in Europe but, above all, in the Americas all in all as well.YouthA point often overlooked is that in his youth, Saint-Saëns was undoubtedly excited about the modern music of the day. He was, in essence, fond of the music of his contemporaries, particularly Schumann, Liszt, and, for the most part, Wagner. In contrast, however, his compositions seemed, in fact, primarily confined within the conservative classical tradition. Be that as it may, he was, at the same time, nevertheless, a scholar of musical history.CriticismOn the whole, his conservatism, in fact, ultimately brought him into frequent conflict in his later years with composers of the impressionist and, in particular, the dodecaphonic schools of musical thought. A point often overlooked is that he included neoclassical elements in his music, contrary to some critics. Furthermore, in so doing, he provided the most compelling evidence that he predicted the techniques and works by Stravinsky and Les Six. To put it another way, given these points, he was regarded, perhaps for the most part unfairly, as a non-progressive reactionary henceforth around the time of his passing.LegacySaint-Saëns taught briefly in Paris, where his students included Gabriel Fauré. Maurice Ravel later studied with Fauré. In conclusion, both Ravel and Fauré were powerfully influenced by Saint-Saëns, whom they respected as a musical mastermind.
