It is versatile and catchy, and has also been performed by our Vocal Bands with one voice per part, as well as our Kids A Cappella class.This arrangement has a gospel vibe (complete with a shout chorus), but with the groove of the original track provided by the addition of rhythm and bass.VOCAL LAYOUT:The melody, or lead line, is divided amongst the vocal parts to give variety. The B.G (background) parts replicate the instrumental accompaniment of the original track, filling out the arrangement and creating the contemporary texture that is at the heart of Pop A Cappella. When it's performed, it should be heavy on the rhythm and bass! The Rhythm (Beatbox) and Bass should be a feature, and they provide the arrangement with the groove and vibe it needs.The dynamics give an indication which vocal parts should be strongest at any given moment, but changes may need to be made depending on the number / balance of singers, and the strengths of each vocal section. As a general rule, the melody or lead should be strongest, followed by any harmony parts (those with lyrics), followed by any background parts (Mmm's / Dmm's, etc).The full arrangement is scored for SATB including clicking, clapping and Vocal Percussion (beatboxing). The song also works as SAT and could be transposed into a higher key to be delivered by a treble ensemble.RHYTHM & BASS:This Beatboxing part is suitable for beginners, and is made up of groupings of patterns. I spent about one month working on it and I considered it my masterpiece at the time. It's been many years since then and I had to do a lot of polishing to make it publishable, but I am still rather proud of this one. As the title suggests, the melody goes through many transformations with changes in meter and key signatures. It's much like a theme and variation with lots of transitions. There are some bits where the music takes on my normal dark quality, but this one is actually more of a positive and upbeat song, even a little jazzy at times. I don't think it's too difficult to play except for a climactic part where the left hand has a lot of movement at the same time as the right hand melody. Also the multiple key changes and odd meter changes might be confusing. I was trying to be different and original as I usually am. I hope you enjoy.

Upstream Music #6353323. Published by Upstream Music (A0.933525). There are four known works of Beethoven for the violin and orchestra genre. They were written during the 1790-1806 period. These are the Violin Romance in G major Opus 40, the Violin Romance in F major Opus 50, the Violin Concerto in D major Opus 61 (1806) and the earlier Violin Concerto in C major WoO 5 (Hess 10). The latter was left to us as a fragment which Beethoven most probably composed in Bonn, between 1790 and 1792. The fragment contains 259 bars, fully written out and than stops abruptly….as if the score was torn in two. The composition is broken off exactly 15 bars into the development. The motif in the last known bars 258 and 259 initiated the task of joining the development as reliably as possible to the rest of the work.In the additional 258 bars, Cees took Beethovenꞌs material into consideration; also in the development, reprise and coda. The most remarkable is the coda. Cees uses a third related key here, which may seem strange at first but was used more often by Beethoven himself, for example in his Violin Concerto in D major Opus 61. It was necessary to compose this work backwards in a manner of speaking. In other words: Cees had to give all the global lines that Beethoven had so masterfully written as correct a place as possible in the score. With respect to earlier completions by colleagues, Cees did not set out by literally copying and transposing the exposition in the reprise. His aim was to write a completion as creatively as possible and still use Beethovenꞌs material and intricate weave ofvoices to the full. Hopefully this completed version will be a respected contribution to the rich violin literature

Der fliegende Holländer, conceived in 1840 and composed in 1841, seemed to him suited to the purpose. Friction was composed at the beginning for the 8th International Academy for New Composition and Audio Art Avantgarde Schwaz 2000 (Tirol/ Austria), during the Summer 2000. The initial line up adjusted to the Academie’s ensemble in residence Het trio (Flute, Bass Clarinet, Piano) plus Alto Saxophone. Almost One year later I revised the piece and slightly changed the instrumentation, using Violoncello instead of Alto Sax. That gave to the piece more timbral variety with better balance as well as expressed better the work’s musical idea. The starting point of the work is the characteristics of Friction a real world sounding event, which then is abstracted and applied to form the idea for the compositional process. The work has three main sections. The first section is quite homophonic and harmonic; the middle one is inharmonic and energetic and works as crossfade to the last section, which is characterized as a more linear with repeated patterns. The transformation from one section to another is the most important and long part of the composition. It is a kind of transformation of the sound itself, a timbral exploration of the characteristics of the initial idea. Moreover, electroacoustic techniques are modeled using acoustic instrumental means. To achieve that I make use conventional musical instruments, utilizing extended performance techniques (which I could call timbral techniques). As well, instruments coupled with the use of unconventional objects treated as musical instruments or extensions of them (boxes, plastic or metal cards etc). That allows a better development, control and transformation of the sound. Friction was awarded the Second Prize at The Second Seoul International Competition for Composers in Seoul/ Korea and was Finalist at The Ensemble Eleven Young Composers Competition 2002 in Manchester/ United Kingdom. - Panayiotis Kokoras, York 2001-.

Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808675).      The defeat of Igor Svyatoslavich, a Rus’ prince, in his 1185 campaign against invading Cuman (Polovtsy) tribes was immortalized in the Russian epic, The Lay of Igor’s Campaign. Seven centuries later, Alexander Borodin started work on an opera based on that old tale. Borodin died before finishing, but Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Alexander Glazunov completed Prince Igor, and it was performed for the first time in 1890. Sixty-three years later the Broadway production Kismet opened featuring songs adapted by Robert Wright and George Forrest from the music of Borodin. Arguably, the most popular of the show’s songs was Stranger in Paradise, which was based on the Gliding Dance of the Maidens from the Polovtsian Dances of Prince Igor.      This beautiful brass quintet arrangement of Gliding Dance of the Maidens was adapted from the orchestra score. The key is A major, time signature is 4/4 and tempo marking is Andantino at the opening, slowing to a suggested quarter note = 63 at measure 15. Trumpets, Horn in F and Trombone all play a few grace notes. Highest notes for Trumpets are their G-sharp just above the staff; for Trombone, E above the staff. While not particularly challenging technically, the key to playing this piece is interpretation and feeling.     This arrangement was completed in 2017, and performance time runs about 2 minutes, 38 seconds. Cornucopia is the recent single release by The Candlelight Guitarist...featuring an ensemble of guitar, mandolin, string bass, and percussion, in a contemporary bossa-nova style. The instrumental parts for guitar, mandolin, and BASS (this part) are each available here separately. (Renown percussionist Ms. Bobbye Hall recorded using a bass part for her reference.) These instrumental parts are fairly straightforward (easy to intermediate) professional jazz level. The video (linked herein) shows each performing playing their respective parts. Brad plays both the classical guitar part and mandolin part. The string bassist is Frank Sanchez (original bassist for Weird Al Yankovic), and the percussionist is Ms. Bobbye Hall (with dozens of hit songs to her credit, with many famous artists).ABOUT: Bradley Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Cornucopia is the recent single release by The Candlelight Guitarist (Brad Powell)...featuring an ensemble of guitar, mandolin, string bass, and percussion, in a contemporary bossa-nova style. The instrumental parts for GUITAR (this part), mandolin, and string bass are each available here separately. (Renown percussionist Ms. Bobbye Hall recorded using a bass part for her reference.) These instrumental parts are fairly straightforward (easy to intermediate) professional jazz level. The video (linked herein) shows each performing playing their respective parts. Brad plays both the classical guitar part and mandolin part. The string bassist is Frank Sanchez (original bassist for Weird Al Yankovic), and the percussionist is Ms. Bobbye Hall (with dozens of hit songs to her credit, with many famous artists).ABOUT: Bradley Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad was mentored in composition by David Rose (composer for Little House on the Prairie). Brad has composed music for TV, including Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. Brad is also the classical guitarist for Disney's Princess Breakfast Adventuire at Disneyland's Grand Californian Resort. When not making music, Brad is often out hiking with his dogs.
