SKU: A0.845966

By The Commodores. By Lionel Richie. Arranged by Kyle Pudenz. Contemporary,Hip-Hop,Pop,R & B,Rock. Score and parts. 21 pages. ViolinVagabond Music #4967807. Published by ViolinVagabond Music (A0.845966).

Finally, the slow-dance number that your gig book has been missing for all these years! Dim the lights, pop a fresh bottle of bubbly, and melt your audience's troubles away with this jazzy rendition of one of the quintessential crooner, Lionel Richie's, most magnificent masterworks.

A few tasteful reharminizations and backbeat chopping rhythms give this arrangement a groove that you can really lay back into. Feel free to repeat the solo section and throw down your best improv, or just let the Commodores' original signature solo set the Sunday morning scene; the guitar solo is printed in the parts. Did I mention I added a key change at the end? Oh no he didn't... OH YES I DID! You can almost feel the sunshine streaming down upon your face, folks. Chill. Vibes. For. Days.

Thanks to the power of chopping and pizzicato bass lines, this arrangement can stand alone with absolutely no need for additional rhythm instruments. However, in the interest of inclusion, I have attached a rhythm section lead sheet so that all of your friends, whether they have bows, picks, or sticks, can join in on the fun.

Prove your worth as an ensemble by tastefully caressing your listeners' ears with this sultry soliloquy; a reminder that the space between the notes can be the most important part of a captivating performance.

If you love this arrangement, try upping the ante even more by pairing it with my arrangement of Brick House for an epic Commodores medley that's a surefire bet to wow the crowd! The optional transition is included in the parts.
Brick House available at:
https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/brick-house-jazz-string-quartet-digital-sheet-music/21498631?ac....

Performance time: 3 minutes. Optionally, vamp the solo section and/or trade with other musicians if you need to stretch it out.

Composed by Ian Deterling. 20th Century,Children,Contemporary,Film/TV. 89 pages. Ian Deterling #4641591. Published by Ian Deterling (A0.742984).

Composed by Ian Deterling, published by Deterling Music

  • I wrote Dwarves in 2018 for Brian Langley - a good friend and wonderful band director. One day over a cup of coffee, he suggested that I should look into writing/arranging works for Flex-Band - a way of scoring music so that ensembles that frequently have to deal with ‘incomplete’ instrumentation (‘incomplete’ as far as traditional concert band ensembles go) can still perform works with the guarantee that all the parts are covered and the ensemble is properly balanced. Dwarves is the first piece I wrote specifically for Flex-Band. This orchestral arrangement was made specifically for the Northshore Philharmonic Orchestra - Tracey Gibbens, conductor.

  • I always find it fascinating yet challenging (in a good way) whenever I revisit a work/adapt and rewrite it for a different instrumentation. Dwarves was definitely no exception. While working on different chord voicing, counter melodies, and having the full pallet of orchestral timbres at my disposal, I decided to transpose the piece up to B Minor (original key of G Minor). I felt this added an extra degree of brilliance while allowing some melodies and musical ideas to be dropped an octave for a contrasting heavier low end.

  • Dwarves is based primarily on two different themes - the A theme (minor and serious) and the B (major, a bit more uplifting). There is a ‘C’ section, but it is loosely based on a variation of the A theme.

Composed by CÉSAR CANO. Contemporary,World. Individual part. 16 pages. POLYHYMNIA Ediciones musicales #4799037. Published by POLYHYMNIA Ediciones musicales (A0.1029293).

Perfil del ánima (Profile of the anima), Op. 86 is a solo cello piece written in a single movement. It is part of the series of PROFILES that I am composing since 2002 for solo instruments. The anima is a concept expounded by C.G. Jung in his book The Man and his Symbols. It is a personification of all female psychological tendencies in the psyche of a man, such as vague feelings and moods, prophetic forebodings, receptivity to the irrational, personal capacity for love, love of nature and, very importantly, his relationship with the unconscious. It is best perceived in dreams. If the dreamer is a man, he will discover a female personification of his unconscious. If it is a woman, it will be a male figure. Jung named them respectively anima and animus. My work has some quotes that evoke the anima, as a fragment of the 2nd movement of Mahler's 5th Symphony, which he wrote under the fascination of Alma Schindler, his future wife. Another citation is a motif of Dvořák’s opera Rusalka, an elf from Slavic mythology, which usually lives in a lake or river. Rusalka is an ancient fairy-tale figure, already appearing in literature in 1387. Her longing is to become a human being and to love as an earthly woman, even at the price of suffering and death. My piece evokes this inner and unconscious dialogue between the masculine and feminine in all of us, represented by the cello’s low and high registers. The use of many and varied instrumental resources (chords, microtones, harmonics, timbral variations, complex rhythms, tremolos, glissandi, pizzicati, etc.), together with its broadness and thematic complexity, make Profile of the anima a demanding work for the soloist. I finished its composition on December 21th, 2016. It is dedicated to Rafał Jezierski, who performed its world premiere on February 14th, 2017, in the Auditorium of the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia, within the cycle of concerts organized by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos.

Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by Randy A. Steinberg. Baroque. Score and parts. 39 pages. Randy A. Steinberg #1988931. Published by Randy A. Steinberg (A0.870401).

Giovanni Gabrieli was no mere composer. He was an event. The figure at the nexus of many things all coming together in one grand tide. The greatest church in the greatest city of Europe. Freedom of intellectual thought. A Venetian School of composers at the forefront of musical innovation. The printing press and musical publishing. A Doge (Chief Magistrate or Duke) willing to spend, and spend big, on musical pomp and ceremony. A dearth of wealth and money to fund the grandest celebrations. He was the leading Italian composer and organist in Venice at its greatest heights at the chasm between the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque period in music. Presented here is a Canzona published around 1615 for 7 brass. A variety of substitute parts are also included to handle the trombone parts with French horn and tuba. A Gabrieli instrumental ensemble work for 7 players that provides listeners with a rich mid-sized ensemble piece for brass with many of the common Gabrieli touches and rhythms.

Composed by Miguel Esteban. A Cappella. Score. 6 pages. Miguel Angel Esteban #6353291. Published by Miguel Angel Esteban (A0.934059).

This is a piano piece inspired and dedicated to my life partner Estefania and the child we're expecting. It was written at a time of change in my life on many levels, and this reflects both the uncertainty and the excitement of the future ahead. This is conveyed through the use of chromatic harmonies where the resolution to a home key is delayed. The central slow section is more lyrical, with a sense of calmness and the feeling that everything will be all right.

Miguel is a pianist and arranger based in London. He has produced arrangements for different instrumental and vocal setups (piano, string orchestra, a cappella, choral with accompaniment, etc.) and in different styles and difficulty levels.

Miguel has worked with professional ensembles such as The Queen’s Six (thequeenssix.co.uk) and Grammy-Award winners The King’s Singers (kingssingers.com), who have recorded several titles and have performed Miguel’s arrangements worldwide.  Please visit www.miguelesteban.co.uk for more information.

Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo. 20th Century,Romantic Period. 12 pages. Nicole Elyse DiPaolo #5022031. Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.799614).

The first of its kind, and the sixth entry in Nicole Elyse DiPaolo's Accessible Accompaniments series of aria reductions, this is a genuinely playable and piano/vocal reduction of Grossmächtige Prinzessin, Zerbinetta's famous aria from Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos (second version, 1916). Please note that the version on this page is a cut beginning from Noch glaub' ich and the complete aria, from rehearsal nos. 100-130, is available separately. Coloratura sopranos who love this aria no longer need to fear bringing it in for auditions, last-minute performing engagements, or other situations in which the pianist may have to sight-read from the chaotic and sometimes unplayable vocal score. Pianists may now enjoy playing this aria comfortably, without risking strain/injury.

In addition to the current cut, one beginning at So war es mit Pagliazzo is also available. To see previews of those sections within the aria, please visit their respective SheetMusicPlus pages.

All Accessible Accompaniments, including this one, boast several unique features:

1. No reduction ever requires stretches of over an octave, not including bass notes meant to be held or fudged with the pedal (though octaves may also contain chord tones within them). This reduces the amount of rearranging that smaller-handed pianists must already do. Obviously, further reworkings are to be expected and pianists should feel free to add to or modify what I’ve provided.

2. I’ve included less essential, but potentially desirable additional voices/passages in cue-size noteheads so that pianists can easily see them, but know that they are not necessary in a sink or swim accompanying situation. Presenting less essential material in cue-size noteheads also reduces visual clutter on the page.

3. In addition to the composer’s markings, when needed, I have included hints on particular notes to bring out when the singer is likely to need them as a pitch anchor or when it is not obvious which line should be brought out within the texture.

4. All page turns have been carefully selected so as to result in the least possible disruption to the pianist when possible. When an inevitable page turn precedes a potentially surprising note or chord, I’ve included the next downbeat’s notes in cue-size stemless noteheads at the end of the preceding measure.

5. When known, I’ve noted alternate cuts that singers might like to take within certain arias.

6. In some cases I’ve modernized spelling conventions for easier readability (for example, by replacing ß with ss in German arias) and occasionally I've enharmonically respelled brief passages for greater clarity.

Composed by Ben Dockery. African,Contemporary,Latin,Standards,World. Score. 4 pages. Ben Dockery #3216651. Published by Ben Dockery (A0.693005).

This short piece (1 min, 50 sec) for piano is the fifth in my series of impromptus inspired by the sounds of childhood, namely the theme music from early nineties video game systems like Nintendo.  The exotic sounds found throughout this arrangement would be described by many  as sounding Spanish, Flamenco, or Egyptian.  Impressions of these musical traditions are often characterized by the augmented second melodic interval and the use of modal rather than tonal organization.  In the minds of many composers, these musical locales once represented the edge of western civilization or the known world.  As such, they serve as creative jumping-off-points to imagine new worlds.

The introduction section must be played with a far greater sense of rubato than the playback recording.  At the new tempo, interpretation is more straight-forward.  One technical and fingering challenge lies in the melodic figures in the right-hand that are frequently harmonized in parallel thirds.  The bass ostinato pattern must be played steadily, but the dynamics should still be subservient to the primary melody in the right-hand.

Composed by Juan María Solare. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Instructional. Individual part. 8 pages. Juan Maria Solare #799954. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.1201300).

Juan María Solare: Reverence (Homage to Bach)

for solo violoncello, or solo viola, or violin solo, or trumpet solo.

Reverence: even if a person hates baroque music, he/she will respect Bach. He is one of the few composers before whom all musicians would spontaneously take off their hats. My reverence is based on the sounding letters of his surname (B-A-C-H), also transposed and treated as a four-note cell. It is difficult to determine, by listening, whether this piece is tonal or atonal: one of the riches hidden in this name.

Reverence (Homage to Bach) was composed in Bremen (North Germany) on February 14th, 2014 (notice the 14, Bach's number in gematria) in the frame of a call for works made by Maksim Velichkin, to whom the piece is dedicated.

Second version: for solo trumpet (Bremen, 16 Feb 2014)

Third version: for solo violin (Bremen, 22 Feb 2014)

Fourth version: for solo viola (Bremen, 27 Jan 2015)

The solo violin version was recorded by Antonio Spiller (former concertmaster in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra) on a Baroque violin (and bow) built by Eduardo Angel Gorr (Cremona) in 2013. Recorded by Antonio Spiller with a Korg MR-2 High-Resolution Mobile Recorder. Recording edited and mastered by Juan María Solare (December 2015, remastered January 2023).

The 2023 remastered version was released in Spotify and all other digital streaming platforms on 17th March 2023. Edition, producer: Juan María Solare

Juan María Solare, born 1966 in Argentina, works currently in Germany as composer, pianist (contemporary & tango) and teaching at the University of Bremen and at the Hochschule fuer Kuenste Bremen.
