Thomas Weelkes (ca. 1576-1623) published, during his lifetime, five collections of madrigals, but also composed a considerable amount of sacred music in his position as organist and choirmaster at Chichester Cathedral. This madrigal is notated for treble voices, but was probably performed by males an octave lower. Here, the piece is transposed to suit a mixed choral ensemble.

La tricotea is a three-part song included in Cancionero de Palacio (1490-1520) which is attributed to a certain Franco Alonso. Portions of the lyrics are nonsensical: They are a melange of Latin languages, but also include playfully expressive made-up words. It is a drinking tune that most probably was sung at taverns and among soldiers. The lyrics and the melody lend themselves well to powerful voices. The parts can also be coloured by way of various instruments, including percussion.
