Nina Simone recorded Feeling Good for her 1965 album I Put a Spell on You. No kidding! So, examine how logical and composerly the surface complexities have been ordered, so as to make the piece a finely patterned and memoriz-able thing. Our tempo here is about the same as Richter, so one COULD go slower. Bring our the tune over the LH figures, and pedal for clarity. Some are slow and graceful, others fast and turbulent, changing octaves with each iteration. Still others are pointillistically distributed between the hands. Octaves with major thirds attached to the outer ranges take mirrored, topographically identical structures, and explore the lowest and highest registers at the conclusion. Approx. running time is 3 mins 30 secs. More etudes to follow, til the set of 25 is complete. Once the single interval pieces have been posted, the combination pieces begin. All the possible groups of two have been utilized. Then the groups of three, and finally, the final etude uses all the intervallic elements in turn in one piece. MBB.

This item has, as its main editorial feature, the truncating or the many LH arpeggios that permeate this music. They have all been limited to a 10th range, at most, instead of the three-octave span that the original music employs. Now, these chords are all the same chords that C.D. used, but their span has been delimited, and the motion folds back on itself once each measure. ALL the roots and all the top tones remain the same. The effect is to limit the amount of attention one has to pay to the LH, and thus, frees more aural and digital awareness to be placed on the exquisite tune and the piquant harmonies. Full-length, original key, of course! Some re-assignment of voices to the RH, so the chords are clear, and the top melody note can be relied upon to be the real tune. MBB.

Its constant arpeggiation and its basic melody combine for a clear yet luminescent effect. Our edition uses a 2/4 time signature, so that each measure has been divided in half, to provide for more clarity about accidentals, to insure there are NO clef changes in the middle of a measure, and to use metric groupings, especially in the left-hand, that are not 7's and five, but 2's and threes, which are much more familiar to the average player, for who ALL our editions are intended. A 7 can usually be broken into a 4 and a 3, and a five into a two and a three, avoiding the need to mentally or sonically integrate all these odd sets under a duple melody. The piece has its tempo mark at a conservative place, but could go faster should the player achieve that. The final set of arpeggios is reset for better hand-to-hand clarity. MBB.
