The piece explores inversions and 're-voicings' of the opening 8-chord sequence. Tones are sustained for as long as the players wish, who also determine their own dynamics, before moving on to the next chord. The effect is hypnotic, as a sense of (musical) time seems to be suspended. Sequence IV is accessible for the listener and is appropriate for most standards of string player.
