I Don't Want To Miss A Thing was recorded by Aerosmith for the smash hit 1998 film Armageddon, and it immediately became a huge success. The soulful power ballad debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, where it remained for 4 weeks, and it remains the band's biggest hit to this day; and of course it's still a very popular request for slow dances and weddings. As the cellist for Aerosmith's Las Vegas residency show, I've performed this song with the band over 50 times, so this one has a special place in my heart! This arrangement for violin & cello duet maintains the beautiful harmonies, soaring melodies, driving beat, and dynamic passion of the original, for a chart that your audience will love listening to as much as you love playing it! Originally written for a wedding ceremony, this will also be perfect for receptions, proposals, pop concerts, or any other occasion that you need to pull on your audience's heartstrings. Rated advanced intermediate, mainly for a number of tricky rhythms and a few high notes in the violin parts.

â€˜Donâ€™t want to miss a thingâ€™, recorded by Aerosmith, and written by Diane Warren is a hugely popular rock ballad that was a number one hit in the USA. Selling over a million copies in the UK, it reached number four in the UK singles chart. Always a favourite for weddings, Capriccio Quartet recorded it for their repertoire, and it is a song that easily lends itself to a string arrangement.

I chose to stick to the original key of D, a great key for string players. At times I have thickened the texture by using double stopping. In this arrangement I have tried to use an open string wherever possible. In some cases there are bare fifths. If you prefer you can choose one of the notes to play instead, especially if this note is doubled in another part. I have also put in some bowing, but the endgame is to feel comfortable, so please feel free to change it and alter the slurring if it makes it easier. I have given the cellist some solos, but everyone in the quartet has some time in the sun in this arrangement. And donâ€™t be afraid to use open strings in this piece, especially in the semi- quavers. They sound great!

I am aiming this quartet at the professional market, for weddings and other events, but I am hopeful that younger players will also have the courage to try it, even if the intention is not to ever perform it but to have some fun!
