That the piece needed to consist of 100 or fewer notes and be 60 seconds or less in duration caused the composer to think about how time passes in a very measured way. The resultant composition is supposed to be an audio snippet of music embodying the inexorable march of time, with indications such as As if tuning-in to music that is already going on, (Not cadencing is what makes the march inexorable), and Quickly turning down the volume knob.
