Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1259418 By Rodney D. Chism, Sr. By Rodney D. Chism, Sr. 20th Century,Blues,Jazz,Soul. Score and Parts. 8 pages. Rodney D. Chism, Sr. #852705. Published by Rodney D. Chism, Sr. (A0.1259418). The Plaza is a low 12/8 feel down-to-earth Mississippi Delta style blues. Great solo vehicle for a blues guitarist. A strong ensemble shout chorus that will bring down the house. It is very playable. Solos - Guitar, Tenor Saxophone, muted Trumpet/Flugelhorn (or just open it up). This composition was written for Nolan Ryan Henderson, a student murdered in Mississippi. It begins with a drum build-up and a strong beginning. Letter A is written for a Guitar solo to go to town. The Saxophone part will be played as background for the last time. Letters B and C are full band sections. Trumpets with shakes, Trombones with slide falls throughout, and a Saxophone Soli at letter C leading up to letter D, the open solo section.Letter D is the open solo section for any instrument let freedom ring. The ensemble backgrounds are to be played every even number of repeated cycles or the last time. Allow the Guitarist to close it out by going into the shout section of the letter E.Letter E is the famous riff until the next, the last measure with the railroad tracks. At the pause, allow the lead soloist or the drummer to work until the last note is cued. If the spirit is still high, the final note can be played with directed quarter note hits leading back to the 5th measure of letter E (shout section). Play it straight to the end with no railroad tracks during this time.

Large Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522150 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Contemporary. Score and parts. 31 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3510413. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522150). Colin Kirkpatrick’s National Anthems Express LIECHTENSTEIN: Oben am jungen Rhein Liechtenstein (officially the Principality of Liechtenstein) is a land-locked microstate in the mountains between Austria and Switzerland. It is a constitutional monarchy and has a total area of 62 square miles. The melody of Liechtenstein's national anthem is from England, and it’s almost identical to the British anthem except that the chorus is always repeated. The melody has been a national song in some European countries for many years and was used in the Swiss national anthem until 1961. This quick and easy national anthem arrangement is essential for traveling musicians, bands, instrumental groups and both amateur and professional ensembles. You can play it with any virtually any combination of instruments: symphonic band, clarinet choir, brass ensemble, brass band, solos, duets and trios - almost anything! This arrangement is in five independent parts each transposed into a variety of keys. For the most satisfying sound you’ll need to get a good balance between each part possibly with an emphasis on the melodic line. If you have a non-standard ensemble, you can pick 'n' mix as required. The piano reduction can fill missing parts or can be used as the basis for an accompaniment. The score and parts are presented in a single PDF file. If you have a non-standard ensemble, you can pick and mix as required. The piano reduction can fill missing parts or can be used as the basis for an accompaniment. The Fairest of the Fair March for Brass Quintet and Optional DrumsBy John Philip Sousa Arranged by Jari VillanuevaScore 2 Trumpets in BbHorn in FTromboneTubaOptional DrumsSubstitute parts for Eb Horn and Baritone T.C .providedThe Fairest of the Fair (1908) by John Philip Sousa was composed for the annual Boston Food Fair of 1908 and is claimed that the memory of a pretty girl he had seen at an earlier fair inspired the composition. Sousa composed The Fairest of the Fair intending his Band to perform it at the annual Boston Food Fair in the fall of 1908. It is the only work of any kind that he composed that year and one of only a handful of compositions that he wrote between 1906 and 1910. He apparently completed it in New York during the summer, as the final page of the original score was signed John Philip Sousa, Camp Comfort, Saranac Lake, Adirondack, New York, July 8, 1908.The march almost missed its premier at the Boston Food Fair. Because of an oversight the music, which Sousa had written and scored out, did not have individual parts written out for the performers. This was discovered the day before the performance. The new composition had received much advanced publicity and it would have been an embarrassment to Sousa not to have it performed. The band’s copyist, Louis Morris, rose to the occasion and on the train to Boston stayed up and copied out the parts so the band could premier the work as advertised on September 28, 1908. In the morning when Sousa found out Morris was working all night he instructed him to finish the work and get some rest. Morris missed the concert and the premier but found an extra $50 in his next paycheck.Published by JV MUSIC Baltimore MD www.jvmusic.net https://youtu.be/KeE5dMnrevU

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1035592 Composed by Edward Elgar. Arranged by Joel Jacklich (A.S.C.A.P.). Romantic Period. Score and parts. 76 pages. Joel Jacklich #640816. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.1035592). PROGRAM NOTE: Rosemary - That's for remembrance.... In 1882, Sir Edward Elgar jotted down in his musical notebook a piano piece he titled Douce Pensée (Sweet Thought). There it remained until 1913 when he got it out again, revised it slightly, re-titled it Rosemary - That's for remembrance, and published it for the first time. The title comes from Ophelia's Garland Speech in Shakespeare's Hamlet, where she says, There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember. In 1915, the First World War had been raging in Europe for a year, and many British composers and poets had turned to artistic means to mourn those who died in the trenches of across the Channel. Elgar orchestrated the work at that time. In 1925, London publisher W. Paxton published arrangements by C. Jenkins made for brass and reed band and for military band; however, these are now out of print and no longer available. In the fall of 2015, Mitch Sturman, director of the Wilson Junior High School Warrior Band in El Centro, California, asked me to make an arrangement of Rosemary for the Eighth Annual Concert of Premieres, a series Sturman had begun in 2008, commissioning new works by known composers, and commissioning new arrangements of pieces he felt were worthy works in the public domain that were no longer in print and/or were written for ensembles containing instruments no longer part of the standard modern band or orchestra. INSTRUMENTATION: Flute I (4), Flute II (4), Oboe (1), Clarinet I (4), Clarinet II (4), Clarinet III (4), Bass Clarinet (1), Bassoon (1), Alto Saxophone (4), Tenor Saxophone (2), Baritone Saxophone (1); Trumpet I (3), Trumpet II (3), French Horn (2), Baritone Horn T.C. Olivia (A0.1403422). This edition of the Artie Shaw Concerto for Clarinet is a note for note transcription of what Shaw’s band with strings played on the record version and in the motion picture. In addition to the big band & string parts here, also available is the companion conductor score and solo clarinet part. This edition restores many elements missing in other versions available. The strings here are restored to the original voicings so important to the style of the classic sound of the period. The solos are transcribed note for note as played by greats such as Billy Butterfield on Trumpet, Johnny Guarnieri on Piano, Les Robinson on Alto Sax, Jerry Jerome on Tenor Sax, Vernon “Brownie†Brown on Trombone. There is an entire sax riff that was extemporaneously improvised during the session that is missing entirely in other published versions. The instrumentation is also restored to only the instruments that were used in Shaw’s recordings. There are many details that help the ease of performability of the genre and gesture of jazz idiom. Lastly, the intention is that this should be performed with saxophones. However, there are optional parts for clarinets and bassoons that can be used only if saxes are not available.

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1044425 By Lisa Waites. By Lisa Waites. Arranged by Lisa Waites. Folk,Holiday,Multicultural,Praise & Worship,Sacred,World. Score. 2 pages. Servant Song Music and Ministry #649158. Published by Servant Song Music and Ministry (A0.1044425). I wrote this reconciliation hymn back in 2016, when elders from the Blood Tribe, Metis, Piikani, and Siksika nations of Southern Alberta led the Reconciliation Week events at Medicine Hat College, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. They invited me to write and teach this hymn as part of the sessions at MHC, where I was (then) the ecumenical Chaplain. It has been an honour to participate in this annual tradition of indigenous leaders sharing their distinctive cultural practices, traditions, and values with the public in Medicine Hat (and the surrounding communities) for a decade, now. During the session I was asked to assist with, the Elders were sharing the Seven Grandfathers' Teachings, and so I included these core values into the lyrics of the hymn. The work in Medicine Hat started with expressions of lament and support from a group of local churches and the Medicine Hat College Chaplaincy program while the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was crossing the country. We quickly realized that many non-indigenous Canadians genuinely wanted to learn more about their First Nations, Metis, and Inuit neighbours. Seeing an urgent need for greater awareness about the intergenerational damage that was done by the Indian Residential School system here in Canada, and also identifying these Reconciliation events as a way to decrease racist stereotypes and assumptions about indigenous peoples, we decided to continue offering an annual reconciliation session, which grew, year by year. A decade later, I'm delighted to have seen deeper, healthier relationships being built between indigenous and non-indigenous people. Musically, this hymn loosely imitates the style of the French Canadian Voyageurs, the folk melodies of the 18th and 19th centuries. The lyrics incorporate the Seven Grandfathers' Teachings. This core ethical framework has many different versions, but many First Nations communities have adopted these teachings in some form. (I've heard Elders say that Respect must come first, because it is the foundation that we build on, but for this particular group at Medicine Hat College, Humility was first on the list). I have Metis ancestry myself, and as an adult, I have researched the long-hidden genealogical and cultural treasures of my family tree. Whether you are an indigenous person looking to support other indigenous Christian composers, or whether you are a non-indigenous person who is trying to broaden the repertoire of your congregation, We Must Learn to Walk Together is an upbeat, hope-filled hymn that sings about reconciliation as if it is not only possible in the distant future - but also achievable today, using the concrete steps suggested by the lyrics. The indigenous wisdom of the Seven Grandfathers' Teachings lines up beautifully with the teachings of Christ. Musically, this hymn is highly accessible for congregational singing; the range is moderate and the rhythms provide musical interest without becoming overly complex; to hear the guitar version and melody line of the hymn being played and sung by the composer, please go to the following YouTube link: https://youtu.be/3DpkFCLxgEs. The musical format of the hymn alternates between the chorus and three verses. The piece takes roughly 3:30 to perform. This hymn has been transcribed in the key of C Major, so it is as easy as possible for church accompanists to play and for congregations to sing; guitarists are invited to play in the key of A Major and simply capo 3. Guitar chords are included. I hope and pray that this hymn for reconciliation will help you, your congregation, and the wider community to think about, pray for, and enact the calls to action of the Canadian Truth and Reconciliation Commission in new and deeper ways this year.
