J’ai rajouté la partie lente au début (« Lamento ») car le Trio Ahn est constitué de trois soeurs qui venaient de perdre leur mere. Dans le Rock bulgare il y a un mélange du rythme typiquement bulgare à 11 temps (4+3+4) avec des modes de jeux que font référence très largement à la musique rock. La pièce à été créée au Festival Montana Chamber Music aux USA le 20 avril 2024.The piece Lamento et Rock Bulgarian was written at the request of the Ahn Trio for a series of concerts with guitarist Antigone Goni. We would like me to use the materials from Bulgarian Rock originally composed for cello and guitar and make a new version for violin, cello, piano and guitar. I added the slow part at the beginning (Lamento) because the Ahn Trio is made up of three sisters who had just lost their mother. In Bulgarian Rock there is a mixture of the typically Bulgarian 11-beat rhythm (4+3+4) with playing modes that refer very largely to rock music. The piece was premiered at the Montana Chamber Music Festival in the USA on April 20, 2024.

This is a brand new work for brass quartet, using brass band instrumentation: Cornet (doubling Flugelhorn), Tenor Horn, Baritone Horn and Euphonium.It was written as a submission for a new brass quartet (A4 Brass Quartet) comprising musicians from the RNCM, but didn't get selected. Each movement is based on the ensemble's name and contains a pun on A4. Each movement also has fourths involved in it somewhere.The first movement is called Aforethought (because it contains my initial ideas) and it uses a mixture of tonal and quartal harmonies. Melodies and harmony are based around fourths and fifths. It requires all players to be able to flutter-tongue. After the opening fanfare, there is a march-like melody on the cornet, accompanied by the rest of the ensemble. This is followed by a contrasting tune using intervals of a fourth. These ideas are developed over several keys until the first march-like melody returns. The fanfare idea closes the movement.The second movement is called Aforementioned. It takes its ideas from the first movement, but gives them a bluesy style. The cornet player changes to the flugelhorn for this movement which has a beautiful languid melody. The horn shares some of the glory towards the end.The third and final movement is called Aphorhythm (A4 rhythm) and is in 7/8 time. The jerky little melody plays with the pulse of the 7/8 and smoothly morphs into a steadier 'middle 8' section before reprising the opening music.Altogether, this is an enjoyable and exciting piece for brass quartet..

Published by Colin Bayliss (A0.938383). (B33) was first written as Piano Sonata No.1 [B12] in late 1981. It was revised into a string quartet in January 1990. There are four movements, and all the thematic material, whether tonal, atonal or serial is derived from the music of the first seven bars. After this opening, the first movement is written in a straightforward sonata form, using a mixture of tonal and serial themes in constantly changing rhythms. The second movement Adagio also contrasts tonal and serial themes, while the third movement is a short scherzo and trio, with an atonal motif in the scherzo being treated in simple rhythms. A lyrical variation of the main theme of the slow movement is used for the trio, and develops further into a simple diatonic tune. The last movement is a kaleidoscopic treatment of the preceding thematic material, together with further variations and short contrapuntal passages, to give the effect of a rondo. The motif from the beginning of the whole work then returns as a coda to unify the quartet. I started my composition in the triad of C# minor and us the melodies developed I ended up crossing between the chords of F# minor, D# and E minor these various chords help to keep the piece interesting.
