Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.492631 Composed by John R. Daniels. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Praise & Worship,Traditional. Octavo. 9 pages. John R. Daniels #107904. Published by John R. Daniels (A0.492631). Psalm 23 – Timeless is a choral setting of the well-known Psalm using the Mixolydian Mode, which gives it the sound of an Irish folk song. Although it is short at one and a half minutes, it uses a number of musical devices to make it seem larger. Besides a piano part, it has chords for a stringed instrument such as guitar or mandolin. If you really want to add some flavor to it, the top line of the piano part could be played by a recorder, penny whistle, etc. whenever there is no one singing. IF YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR ENSEMBLE TO GAIN MORE MEDIA EXPOSURE, please record your performance of this piece and email it to CustomMusic@Salt-Cellar-Creations.com. It will be included in my social media postings and website samples with any contact info you may want to provide. If you need help with recording technique or email transfer, etc. please contact me. Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music #00-PC-0015091_wpTBBTC. Published by Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music (AX.00-PC-0015091_WPTBBTC). UPC: 038081416601.The first modal episode begins with a chant-like melody in G Aeolian mode (natural minor) that is reminiscent of early medieval music. The full brass section answers with simple block chords that accentuate the modal tonality. The Allegro that follows is set in B-flat Mixolydian mode (major scale with a flatted seventh). A dance-like melody dominates this episode and the percussion section is featured in a simple question-and-answer exchange.

Unison chorus - Digital Download SKU: C7.CGA118 Composed by Jane M Marshall. General. Sacred Anthem. Octavo. 12 pages. Chorister's Guild - Digital #CGA118. Published by Chorister's Guild - Digital (C7.CGA118). UPC: 749193018163.The cover of this anthem has the entire text of Wm. Byrd's 'Reasons to learn to sing' from which composer Jane Marshall selected the anthem words. Matching the text to four different moods of the ancient modes (or scales) she comes up with tone colors seldom experienced in today's church anthems. The Dorian mode of the 1st section has a similar feeling to natural minor scale. The Lydian mode, of the 2nd section, is very bright, like a major scale with a raised 4th degree. The Phrygian mode, section 3, is very somber, like a natural minor scale with lowered 2nd degree. The 4th section, 'Since singing is so good a thing', uses the most contemporary of the scales, the Mixolydian. It is a major scale with a lowered 7th degree, and this is characteristic of much of our present rock and folk music.

Concert Band - Digital Download SKU: AX.00-PC-0014252_T2 2nd B-flat Trumpet. Composed by John O'Reilly. Instructional. Part. 2 pages. Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music #00-PC-0014252_T2. Published by Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music (AX.00-PC-0014252_T2). UPC: 038081151717.Based on the beautiful Irish hymn Be Thou My Vision, this brilliant fantasia presents a variety of musical styles that will challenge and stimulate the developing band. A broad, modal fanfare opens the work followed by a full ensemble statement of the hymn. A rapid 12/8 percussion ostinatato in the style of traditional Irish folk music sets up the second section and continues under the haunting Mixolydian melody. A drone-style accompaniment and interesting counter-melodies add to the excitement before the hymn returns in a glorious maestoso. This unique combination of musical elements makes for another thrilling and inspiring new work from John O'Reilly!

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.938389 Composed by Colin Bayliss. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 46 pages. Colin Bayliss #6143. Published by Colin Bayliss (A0.938389). This was written in the summer of 2000 for the Lochrian Ensemble who were beginning to plan the recording of the complete string quartets. In the context of the other string quartets, here there is a reversion to the classical form, thus giving a balance between the classical quartets nos. 1, 2 and 6 and the kaleidoscopic quartets nos. 3, 4 and 5. It is in the conventional four movements:- 1. Allegro - This movement is in single subject sonata form using one figure. There is much use of quasimodal writing, especially using the Lochrian and Superlochrian modes, based both on E and C and the Mixolydian mode on E, giving a sort of tonality in which the constructional remainder notes of the serial row can be used sparingly. The pull towards a tonality of F is therefore established quickly. Each section is rounded off by the metamorphosis of the figure into a sentimental tune, but contrary to expectation, it evolves in the coda into something completely different - the opening of Beethoven's F minor string quartet Op. 95. 2. Scherzo - Wobblefunk and Tango After the last movement's ending has dispelled any seriousness, the stage is set for an outrageous scherzo. After the tango, the wobblefunk section is repeated bar by bar in reverse. Why not? It doesn't make any sense the right way round! Historical note: the term wobblefunk was invented by the composer's son Edmund to describe a type of subdued electronic crossover style music which he had written. In keeping with the family sense of humour, the thought of incorporating such a movement into a serious string quartet appealed to both parties. 3. Adagio - This movement is tonal and melodic, but introduced by a discordant motif which re-appears as if to remind the listener of their own mortality. The movement progresses through the cycle of fifths and then dissolves into a sinister coda related to the notes of the discord. 4. Allegro - This movement can be summed up as accepting life's problems but getting on with enjoying the good things as well - in the spirit of the last movement of Beethoven's string quartet Op.135. Must it be? It must be! Even if it includes a textural fugue! The ending, however, is decidedly not as clear-cut as Beethoven's ....... The Score and Parts are available on this site as separate downloads The sound sample is the third movement - performed by the Lochrian Ensemble The complete 6 string quartets performed by the Lochrian Ensemble are available on itunes: see: http://www.dwsolo.com/colinbayliss/ and - for this 6th quartet: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/bayliss-string-quartet-no.-6/id573669350.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1292494 By Brian Golden. By Brian Golden. Arranged by Brian Golden. Classical,Contemporary. Score. 2 pages. Brian Golden #883011. Published by Brian Golden (A0.1292494). Prelude 22 in B Minor Phrygian from 24 Preludes for the Piano in Major and Minor Modes by composer Brian Golden   The creative concept in writing these preludes is to provide a link to past preludes written for the keyboard, and in particular to the works of J.S. Bach and Frederic Chopin, whose works stand as essential repertoire for any student of the piano.  Using Bach’s and Chopin’s examples, my goal was to compose in all twenty-four keys, yet offer my own variation on the progression of key signatures – Bach’s being a pattern of major to parallel minor progressing chromatically through all keys, and Chopin’s a pattern of major to relative minor keys progressing clockwise through the circle of fifths.  In order to expand my harmonic and melodic possibilities, I have included the modal keys rather than only the major and harmonic minor keys, and have chosen to work counterclockwise through the circle of fifths, which is a more natural harmonic progression.  Therefore, all major preludes resolve from one to another V-I, as well as do all the minor preludes.    While there are seven modal scales, I decided to leave out the locrian modes for the following reasons.  First, due to the diminished fifth, the locrian mode cannot be thought of as either major nor minor.  Second, the locrian mode did not have a relative key to pair with, since there were no other keys with the identical characteristic notes.    In creating the key architecture, I determined that there was only one solution to pairing major and relative minor scales based on a shared parent key and characteristic note - ionian/aolian, mixolydian/phrygian and lydian/dorian.  This specific order of modal scales is the only order that would enable composing in all twelve key signatures.  Finally, the inspiration for each prelude came from playing through several other preludes in the same keys - mostly by Bach and Chopin - and letting their themes and styles influence me in the writing of my own.
