Based on the Latin prayer 'Ave verum' from the 14th century, this sacred a-cappella choral work captures the special atmosphere of the mystery of the Eucharist in a musically impressive way. Characterized by dense chromaticism and successive changes of time and dynamics, it is based on a sophisticated handling of the text and a subtle musical language. Thus, the work is a demanding addition to existing Ave verum settings, both with regard to the music and to the performance practice.

German.When a composer like Enjott Schneider gets down to collecting original texts from lonely hearts columns and setting them to music in their original wording in an entirely unadorned way, irony, mockery and humour are inevitable. This can be experienced in Schneider's 10-minute four-part cycle 'Variationen über die Liebe' for five-part mixed choir (SMezATB) and piano, a masterful musical caricature of ordinary, banal platitudes. One of the work's highlights certainly is the rousing 'Tango delle abbreviature' which consists mainly of abbreviations. The four rhythmically and harmonically highly demanding miniatures, which demand all kinds of vocal techniques from the singers, are rather destined for professional vocal ensembles.

Worthing U3A’s Inspired Instrumentalists was formed in 2015 with just 6 members, all mixed ability and wanting to make music together. They now have 36 members, still a very mixed ability group, and includes instruments which are not found in the normal orchestra so arrangements have to be made for them. Since March 2020 they have been in Lockdown and unable to meet. It was agreed that they would continue to make music through a form of distanced learning. They receive an arrangement from me to work on and are given a date to submit their audio file which is then collated into a whole piece for all of them to listen to. This is one of the arrangements they have worked on.

Alwin Michael Schronen, winner of several composition awards, manages in his four-part setting for mixed choir and belly drum ad libitum to turn this simple three-verse folk tune in an entertaining and rhythmically infectious choral composition. Due to the varied onomatopoeic imitation of 'klipp-klapp' by using belly drum, the clapping of hands, 'dabada' and 'klippi-klippi-klapp' interjections of the choir, as well as the stage direction of walking on tiptoe aimed at both performers and listeners, this piece really has the potential of joining in and tapping along.
