Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862532 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2033257. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862532). Here is Etude 1.5 using the minor third and its inverse, the Major 6th, as its only materials. A Minimalist flavor characterizes this piece. All manner of topographically identical and mirrored, symmetrical structures are found here, sometimes with multiple layers of intervallic unity. All the gestures are shaped the same, until the penultimate segment, with the ONLY deviation from absolute topographical mirroring, which is then followed by a triplet figure in contrary motion, both within and between each line. Lastly, a Cut, and a serene, white-key-based coda. Look for the rest of the set as both single titles and as a complete volume coming soon. Approx running time is just over 3 mins.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862547 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2034415. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862547). The whole step and the major third are quite euphonious, and even fit into some keys where their usage in a tonal setting facilitates mirror fingerings and symmetry. E major, having four sharps, is just such a key. The scalar passages are strictly mirror-fingered. The octave displacement of the note in between the root and 3rd of the scale is also used throughout, in either hand. Tempo here is only a suggestion, as it may be a bit quick, the 9ths that change direction throughout being the chief technical challenge. The melody is, by default, the top notes of these octave-displaced figures. There are also thirds with broken octaves for accompaniment as well. Running time is approx.3 mins, 30 secs.,longer at a slightly slower pace. Pedaling is not specifically marked, but is given with general instructions rather than with traditional markings. MBB.

Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.976503 Composed by James Domine. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 16 pages. Earth Music, Ltd. #2081575. Published by Earth Music, Ltd. (A0.976503). The piano sonatas by James Domine are cast in one movement and follow the traditional sonata-allegro form. The first of these, Piano Sonata #1 in C major opens with a lively theme in C major sweetened by the interpolation of a recurring f# that is marked with the tempo indication of Animato. The principal theme is followed by a contrastingly sentimental cantabile melody that has something of a jazz-ballad flavor set in the dominant key. These two themes are cunningly entwined through the development in an harmonic sequence that emerges into a playful recapitulation. The sonata ends with an open-spaced quartal figuration that implies the tonic key of C major but without implicitly spelling it out in its common triadic form. The subtitle Commedia dell’arte all’improvviso comes from the light-hearted comedic character of the principal theme that is treated throughout in a quasi-improvisational manner reminiscent of the sixteenth-century Italian theatrical style. This sonata, although begun at an earlier date, was completed in 2005 at the request of Joanna Ezrin, pianist and pedagogue as a vehicle for her students.
