She was born in Kansas, Missouri but moved with her mom to New York when she was 15.While in New York, Suesse studied piano under Alexander Siloti, Franz Liszt's last surviving pupil. She studied composition under Rubin Goldmark, one of George Gershwin's teachers, and spent three years studying with Nadia Boulanger after World War II. In 1931, bandleader Paul Whiteman (following Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue) commissioned her to write Concerto in Three Rhythms. On December 11, 1974, Suesse and her husband produced a symphony concert at Carnegie Hall, devoted exclusively to her compositions. (In the 1990s, Robert Stern produced a CD of the concert using masters from Voice Of America.) On July 31, 1975, the Newport Music Festival (Rhode Island) presented four of her works in their concert series. A year after the Carnegie Hall concert, Suesse and her husband moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands. After her husband's death in 1981, Suesse moved back to New York, the city where she had spent her most creative years. She took two apartments in the Gramercy Park Hotel and continued to write plays and songs for the theatre. Just before her death from a stroke on October 16, 1987, she was writing a new musical, putting the finishing touches on Mr. Sycamore, which had been optioned for off-Broadway, and was looking for a New York home for a straight play, Nemesis.

Concert Band - Digital Download SKU: AX.00-PC-0014853_WPTN1TC (wp) 1st B-flat Trombone T.C.. Composed by John O'Reilly. Instructional. World Part. 1 pages. Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music #00-PC-0014853_wpTN1TC. Published by Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music (AX.00-PC-0014853_WPTN1TC). UPC: 038081344379.This arrangement of two Irish folk songs is dedicated to the memory of Danny Pearl, the Wall Street journalist who was kidnapped and subsequently murdered by Islamic Militants in February 2002. The choice of Danny Boy is an obvious one. The arranger, John O'Reilly, always thinks of Danny when he hears this tune since Mr. O'Reilly's daughter was very close to Danny during their high school years. Danny was a violinist and he loved to play fiddle music. The Wearin' of the Green is in the style Danny enjoyed and the lyrics of the song relate to the struggle of the Irish people as they defied the British oppression. Correlates with Book 2. Page 15.

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.752401 Composed by Hughie Charles and Ross Parker. Arranged by Rob Bushnell. Opera. Score and parts. 1 pages. RBMusic #5741079. Published by RBMusic (A0.752401). We'll Meet Again was written in 1939 by Ross Parker and Hughie Charles, and made famous by singer Dame Vera Lynn. The song is one of the most famous of the Second World War era. It later gave its name to the 1943 musical film We'll Meet Again, where Vera Lynn played the lead role. During the Cold War, Lynn's recording of the song was included in the package of music and programmes held in 20 underground radio stations of the BBC's Wartime Broadcasting Service (WTBS), designed to provide public information and morale-boosting broadcasts for 100 days after a nuclear attack. In 2005, Vera Lynn sang the song in London on the 60th Anniversary of VE Day in 2005, and, in 2020, a duet with Katherine Jenkins reached number 72 on the UK Singles Chart. Arranged during the 2019/2020 Coronavirus Pandemic to commemorate/celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day, it is designed for two treble-clef instruments in the same key. This version is in C major (written pitch) – part 1 has a written range from F#4 to G5 and part 2 has a written range from C#4 to D5. (For other parts/versions, see my other We’ll Meet Again titles.) Alto Flute,Instrumental Duet - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1413975 Composed by Alcock. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Classical,Instructional,Standards. 3 pages. Phil Beaman #995742. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1413975). A Siciliano is based on a graceful rustic dance of Sicily, and is considered a type of Pastorale.  The Siciliano style always has dotted rhythms.  It is normally in compound time, but I have changed it here to make it more accessible for beginners.  This arrangement is based on the opening theme from Voluntary II for Organ by John Alcock, Jr.  Mr. Alcock was an organist from the Classical Period and this piece is a great example of the Classical characteristics with a lyrical melody of light elegance. The two parts, which each stay within the range of 1 octave, are equally balanced, playing in parallel thirds much of the time, and the rest of the time playing off of each other in tight ensemble work.  This makes a great recital piece to develop your melodic tone and showcase the melodies of the Classical Period.  (1 page score, 1 page @ part, with repeats - 2 1/2 minutes).

Trombone Duet Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792221 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Sauer, Ralph. Baroque,Classical,Romantic Period. Score. 12 pages. Gordon Cherry #4728851. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792221). Originally thought to be composed for two Horns, the Twelve Duos K. 487 have been transcribed for two Trombones by Ralph Sauer, retired Principal Trombonist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Mr. Sauer has set them into three sets of keys. 1-4 are in F, 5-8 are in G and 9-12 are in A, giving the performers a nice mix of keys.  This also makes three sets of Duos that can be used in recital if desired.  The Duos can be performed by moderately advanced players, the 1st part being in tenor clef.  The 2nd part can be played by a tenor or bass Trombone.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.810986 Composed by Jeremiah Clarke. Arranged by Dunn, Bruce. Baroque,Classical,Renaissance. Score and parts. 7 pages. Gordon Cherry #4603899. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.810986). Jeremiah Clarke's Trumpet Voluntary or Prince of Denmark’s March sparkles all the way from beginning to end. Mr. Dunn has done a great job with this arrangement for Brass Trio of Trumpet, Horn and Trombone. The work was incorrectly attributed to Purcell for many years. This music is very popular as a wedding processional (performed at the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana) and was broadcast by the BBC extensively during WW II during the occupation of Denmark. The work is under three minutes in length. Parts are supplied for C and D trumpet, Horn and Trombone/Euphonium. Easily within range of intermediate/advanced performers.

Recorder Solo,Tenor Recorder - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596448 Composed by Daniel Hay. Classical,Contemporary,Multicultural,World. Individual part. 1 pages. Daniel Hay Music #5809019. Published by Daniel Hay Music (A0.596448). Composer Daniel Hay wrote this piece in honor of the efforts of Oprah Winfrey in building schools for girls in Africa. Twice Mr. Hay sent notice to the staff of Oprah yet never received acknowledgment from them. The attached audio file is voiced by the computer as an oboe. The attached YouTube link is a practice session by the composer outside his hand-built cabin in the mountains of Washington state where he lived for three years. It is played on a Ganassi style Alto-in-G recorder handcrafted by Bodil Diesen of Norway. Please note that due to brain damage the composer is no longer able to differentiate fingering and notes to play instruments in their correct pitch ranges, so this is played on a G pitched instrument but music is read as C fingered (Soprano and Tenor). As solo music it makes no difference but an Alto player will probably notice the pitches don't match the fingerings they are seeing. The sound file is voiced in piano but this is a great piece for treble instrument; i.e. Oboe, Clarinet, Flute, or the Recorder family.
