Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1328892 By Ryuichi Sakamoto. By Ryuichi Sakamoto. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 21st Century,Classical,Film/TV,Multicultural,World. 74 pages. John Ivor Holland #916902. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1328892). Ryuichi Sakamoto (傿œ¬ é¾) (1952-2023) was a Japanese composer, pianist, record producer, and actor who pursued a diverse range of styles as a solo artist and as a member of Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO). With his bandmates Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi, Sakamoto influenced and pioneered a number of electronic music genres. As a film score composer, Sakamoto won an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Grammy, and two Golden Globe Awards. 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence' (1983) marked his debut as both an actor and a film-score composer and his most successful work was 'The Last Emperor' (1987). 'Blu' (ブルー) was composed for an advert to mark the 50th anniversary of the Japanese clothing brand Aoyama Shouji and the title could be a reference to the colour of their business suits; the structure, after a quiet opening, is very reminiscent of Ravel's 'Bolero' and accompanies visuals of workers going about their day, gradually ending with a bit of a night out at the end before slumping into bed. There are some lovely moments for alto flute, cor anglais and tuned percussion; 'Blu' would be a great companion to a performance alongside 'Bolero' or other dance pieces.

Euphonium,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.810920 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Sauer, Ralph. 20th Century. Score and part. 15 pages. Gordon Cherry #3820429. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.810920). The Three Romances Without Words, Opus 17 were most likely composed for solo Piano in 1863 while Fauré was still a student at the ÌEcole Niedermeyer, but not performed in public until much later. They have all of the recognizable features of the composer: simplicity, lyricism, charm and fluidity. Their inspiration may have come from the earlier works by Mendelssohn which Mr. Sauer has also lovingly given life to.These 3 short works can be performed by intermediate to advanced performers.

Brass Ensemble Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792418 Composed by John Philip Sousa. Arranged by Andrew Converse. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk,Patriotic. Score and parts. 12 pages. Gordon Cherry #4821599. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792418). Mr. Andrew Converse has written a great arrangement for Trombone Quartet of Sousa's first big hit as a march. The Gladiator is an early work by John Philip Sousa, written in 1886 while he was leader of the US Marine Band. The Gladiator was written as a tribute to Charles B. Towle, a journalist at the Boston Traveler. The journalist introduced him to the Knights Templar.  There is speculation about the origins of the march's name.  Sousa had not written many marches before that, and none of them received great popularity. The Gladiator, however, sold over a million copies - a record for the time and it was soon performed frequently. It follows the traditional march style of the period. Although marches such as Semper Fidelis, The Washington Post, Stars and Stripes Forever and Hands Across the Sea have achieved greater popularity, the Gladiator is still regarded as John Philip Sousa's first success.
