As heard on the album, A Small Ensemble Christmas, by DDT Brahms. This music box-like arrangement of The Holly And The Ivy for Bells, Xylophone, Marimba and Vibraphone is accessible to intermediate players on up. There are several of these music box arrangements for percussion ensemble. You might consider putting three or four of them together as a suite. (Other titles from DDT Brahms' album with the music box style include: Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, Ding Dong Merrily On High, and I Saw Three Ships.)

Three Short Turns was composed simultaneously in versions for a music box, for recorder trio, and for a keyboard instrument such as piano, toy piano, or celesta.
The piece was written after receiving a gift of a music box mechanism that could be 'programmed' by punching holes into a paper strip, in the manner of a player piano paper roll, and played by moving the strip through the mechanism by turning a small handle.  These features informed the range and spacing of the notes, and exploited the technique of interrupting the flow of the piece for pauses, and slowing or speeding tempo, by the way the handle is turned.  The piece was adapted in minor ways in the versions for recorder trio and keyboard.   Three movements were produced because the music box came with three identically-sized blank paper strips.

There are lyrics for each part based around our favourite chicken shops which make it easy to learn to sing it in parts before you learn to play it. Why not spend some time getting the young people in your band to change the lyrics to their favourite foods?  Or perhaps they could write a healthier version?

A great festival piece for a young soprano! The melody is that of the German carol Kling, Glöckchen, but it is paired here with a new English text that is useful all year round, as it omits all references to Christmas, and focusses instead on different kinds of bells (sleigh bells, door bells, clock chimes, music boxes, etc.) and their association with fun and festivity in olden times. The vocal part does not go much beyond the traditional tune, but it offers ample opportunity to work on articulation, diction, expression, agility and dynamic contrast. The accompaniment, though sight-readable by a proficient player, adds a great deal of musical interest and a bit of modernity. Duration: 1'40.
