Larry is fluent on piano, sax, clarinet, flute, guitar and bass. While in college, Larry also learned the violin, viola, trumpet, trombone, and bassoon.Larry taught public school music, and gifted classes in music for high schoolers at Eastern Oregon University, and Montana State; Larry also taught adult classical and folk guitar classes at Mt. Hood Community College. Larry also developed a rock and roll boot camp for middle schoolers that ran for several years during spring breaks at the Overlake School in Redmond, Wa. Larry was commissioned to to write the Overlake School anthem. Larry’s students have earned scholarships to the Berkeley School of music; attended the Thornton School of music; New York University and many others. Larry is a recording studio musician and besides the 5 albums he has published on CDbaby, he has appeared on many other albums, produced jingles for commercials that received air play in the Seattle market, and was the pianist for a syndicated gospel TV show. Larry has performed from Hawaii to New York city. Published by John R. Daniels (A0.492631). Psalm 23 – Timeless is a choral setting of the well-known Psalm using the Mixolydian Mode, which gives it the sound of an Irish folk song. Although it is short at one and a half minutes, it uses a number of musical devices to make it seem larger. Besides a piano part, it has chords for a stringed instrument such as guitar or mandolin. If you really want to add some flavor to it, the top line of the piano part could be played by a recorder, penny whistle, etc. whenever there is no one singing. This will require some good control and very espressivo playing throughout. and a good deal of subtlety on the part of the accompaniment. other than this, the music is not difficult and should be well within the grasp of most ensembles.

One of the songs in that book was titled Nordisches Lied, which is usually translated as Northern Song, or I use the alternate translation of Norse Song. The original was Romantic Folk style with thick chords which I have simplified and arranged into ornamented 2-part Baroque style. Besides giving the symbols I have written out my suggested ornaments in cue notes. Continuing in Baroque style I used terraced dynamics on each alternate line and further denote them as delicately or boldly. The ornamentation is all in the upper melody; the lower part is a fun contrapuntal walking bass line of entirely quarter notes (crotchets). I have arranged it into ABBA form.

This unpublished march could have been called “Homage to Nevin and Foster�, “Homage to Pittsburgh�, or “The Belle of Pittsburgh�.It is one of Sousa’s more unusual works, but highly inventive. His combination of themes is well executed and builds throughout to a triumphant conclusion. A quite difficult one to arrange!This Brass Quintet arrangement was made using “The President’s Own� United States Marine Band’s The Complete Marches of John Philip Sousa score as found at https://www.marineband.marines.mil/Audio-Resources/The-Complete-Marches-of-John-Philip-Sousa/. The Pride of Pittsburgh was composed in 1901, and the referenced edition was made Public Domain in 2018. The piece is catalogued as Volume 4, No. 60.

It was created in 1958, a time when Taiwan not only experienced the tragic 228 Incident but was also enveloped in the high-pressure rule of the Kuomintang's White Terror. The composer hoped to express nostalgia through music, infusing the melody with a strong Taiwanese folk style, and providing hope through the lyrics. Although this song was once banned by the Kuomintang government, it has still been sung by many Taiwanese singers, including famous ones like Chiang Hui, Hong Ronghong, and Feng Feifei. Although the uprising was part of a larger one, the Mexican Federalist War, that included other provinces opposed to the regime of President Antonio López de Santa Anna, the Mexican government believed the United States had instigated the Texas insurrection with the goal of annexation.
