This piece is appropriate for schools and for students learning to play in 3/8 time although for full realization, proper piano techniques are necessary to bring out the fullness of the piece. This piece was written on August 19, 2015 in Brookville, New York which makes the piece part of the New York Collection. The work is about 2 minutes long and was meant to be a short stand a long piece. Playing Games Op. 13 was written shortly after arriving in New York to begin my master's degree studies. It is in a relentless 5/4 rhythm and starts with a fugato idea on piano and strings (including several divisi moments), with gongs, cymbal and snare drums beginning about a minute into the piece.

Unusually for me, the chordal accompaniment is written for harpsichord (or any keyboard instrument), in order to get the full arpeggiation not possible on my octave mandola or bouzouki.The Western Heights, in Dover, used to be a really fun place to go; a barracks inter alia for a French invasion that never quite happened. Miles of tunnels built into a mountainside with rotten drawbridges, very steep stone staircases and plenty of rats. I used to climb inside and spend hours wandering around in the dark stumbling over debris, squeezing through narrow gaps, climbing walls. It’s been taken over now by various doers of good and made ‘safe’. I think you have to pay to get in. Back in the day one could be Indiana Jones for a while and have a truly great time.

His compositions are becoming known to us today through important academicresearch but a lot more work has to be made in this field. The present partita, (transcribed in A minor for guitar), was discovered early in this research and it is well known and loved amongstguitarist and lute players of today because of its ease in performance, but at the same timemaintaining a high compositional standard in terms of well-constructed movements incontrapuntal two-part writing.In these editions I prefer not to add any fingerings because I consider that they obscure the opticalresult rather than clarifying any particular way of playing the music. Instrumentalists have tomake their own fingering and choice of position decisions and in most cases they prefer it. My general suggestion for this partita is that open strings should be preferred whenever it is possible, as for example in the second half of the last movement where notes B and E are always sustainedas open strings in the upper part (indicated by the ties) and the required technique and sound result is that of an arpeggio rather than a scalic passage.Although here we have only a five movement partita and it is very easy to navigate from page to page, my usual procedure, followed for larger collections, is to give a thematic index in the beginning of the volume, with the first few bars of every piece given as photographs.
