The myth about the Pied Piper is placed in a new contemporary context; the musical language, however, draws on the time of the legend, the early Middle Ages. The two performers of the world premiere of the work for clarinet and percussion were Jörg Widmann and Stefan Blum, with the latter also having arranged the new version.

Several days later, having enjoyed the sweet treats, he returns to Apollo, and fibs about his lateness by blaming the water snake (Hydra) which he has carried back with him. Apollo, perceiving the truth, hurls all three into the sky- cup, crow, serpent- and condemns the crow to eternal thirst.
