Deeply moved by his first visit to the city of Jerusalem with its seven gates, Krzysztof Penderecki composed this major vocal work to celebrate the city's 3,000th anniversary in 1995. Two years later, it was premiered as Symphony No. 7 in which the magic number seven has a special meaning: From the seven movements representing the seven gates to the seven powerful fortissimo chords concluding the oratorio, the biblical number runs through the entire work.

(Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend is a cowboy-styled country/western song written in 1948 by American songwriter, film and television actor Stan Jones. A number of versions were crossover hits on the pop charts in 1949, the most successful being by Vaughn Monroe. The song tells a folk tale of a cowboy who has a vision of red-eyed, steel-hooved cattle thundering across the sky, being chased by the spirits of damned cowboys. One warns him that if he does not change his ways, he will be doomed to join them, forever trying to catch the Devil's herd across these endless skies. The story has been linked with old European myths of the Wild Hunt and the Dutch/Flemish legend of the Buckriders, in which a supernatural group of hunters passes the narrator in wild pursuit.

Lowlands Away is a traditional Anglo-Scottish tune that exists in multiple versions, as both a ballad and a shanty. In this its ballad form the narrator mourns the death of the woman left behind by her beau. Note: “John was a slang term for a sailor, used to describe a ship's deckhands.  And shanties often have a call and response structure, this allowed one sailor to set the rhythm of work for the others.  This arrangement is scored for a 4-part SATB ensemble, with the bass section taking the lead.  It is to be performed a cappella.  Performance time: 3:10+-.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day is a Christmas carol based on the 1863 poem Christmas Bells by American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The song tells of the narrator's despair, upon hearing Christmas bells, that hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men. The carol concludes with the bells carrying renewed hope for peace among men. This intermediate jazz combo arrangement contains the following parts: 

Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2 (Optional), Trombone, Piano, Bass, Drum Set and Full Score. It is basically an octet with an optional 2nd trumpet part. Performance Time Approx. 2 minutes 40 seconds.
