A musical of the Nativity, comprising nine songs and lasting approximately 30 minutes. It was written with children in mind and is particularly suitable for primary schools. The only solo vocal part is that of Mary (which is possible for an older child, but may prove a little challenging), but for the drama the parts of Joseph, Gabriel, the Innkeeper and Innkeeper's Wife are also required.

The musical can be performed in a number of ways: as a concert-piece for Choir and Narrator, as a nativity drama, using costume and the movements suggested, as a two-part work for children with an adult Mary, or as a three-part work for infants and juniors or adults and children. This musical is ideal for a school Nativity Concert, or as part of a church Christmas Service.

This single movement piece was originally intended to be the third movement of my Sonata for Piano: Illuminations.  However, as with many ideas that I pursue, the music developed a life of its own apart from the original vision of the piece.  This movement then became a “fantasy” with an over-the-top technical flare that was as much a visual display as virtuosic orchestration of  dynamic elements of the music.

An SSAAB choir arrangement of this iconic song from Baz Luhrmann's 1997 telling of Romeo + Juliet.

I've kept the gorgeous piano part close to the original, but added loads of lush vocal pads beneath the vocal solo, building on the strings from the original.

This is a tricky one, but worth the effort!

This arrangement is adapted from an SSAA version I did in 2013 for Swansea University Choral Society. The YouTube video featured here is of that version, without the Baritone part.
