Harmonies are fairly easy to learn, and the antiphonal refrain is presented with melody taken in turn by treble and baritone voices. Its simplicity makes it an excellent choice for your young choir, or for a choir looking to add repertoire quickly. The piano accompaniment is moderately easy, and integral to the harmonies of the piece. The lyrics present the baby Jesus as the newborn king, with the shepherds, angels and Mary all playing their parts in the drama.
