A selection of popular Social Dances in common use during the 18th and 19th Centuries, perfect for bringing a bit of a Costume Drama/Bridgerton vibe to your evening or event. The tunes have been arranged for String Quartet, and repeats have been added, as if they will be used for dancing. 

Contents (the tunes are often known under several different names):

2) Purcell: The Virtuous Wife/The Dutch Skipper
3) Anon: Flirtation/Le Cor de Chasse

These were all premiered at a weekend of costume balls in March 2024, where they were used for dancing: dance instructors taught the participants the dances, and the floor was then filled with dancers, with a caller helping with the steps.

However, the arrangements work equally well as background music, to give the atmosphere of an 18th/19th Century ballroom to any event.

Vivaldi's violin concerto Autumn, part of his very well known 4 Seasons, here arranged for String Trio! There has been no cuts and no simplifications made in this arrangement, and we have added English translations of the most important bits of the poem which inspired Vivaldi to write the concerto. Some may be a bit surprising, as not everyone knows that the 1st movement depicts a village feast, the 2nd is the villagers sleeping after the feast, and the 3rd is an illustration of a hunt. We hope that you enjoy playing this arrangement as much as we do.

Danse du Grand Calumet de la Paix (Dance of the Great Peace Pipe), also known as Danse des Sauvages is one of the most well known pieces from Jean-Philippe Rameau's Les Indes Galantes (1735). It appears in the final Entree of the Opera-Ballet and sets the scene for a grove in an American forest on the border of the Frence and Spanish colonies.

This piece is used at the Palace of Versailles every year as part of the dancing items at their grand costume ball, so if you'd like to bring some grandeur from the court of Louis XIV to your event or concert, look no further! 

This string quartet arrangement was premiered at a costume ball in Edinburgh in March 2024.

Lully's Menuet pour les Trompettes is one of the more well known movements from his Le Divertissment Royal de Versailles, LWV 38, written between 1664-1670, here arranged for String Quartet.
