Piano Trio No. 2 Strange Rims (cello part – piano, vln, cel) MO166CCello Part (score and parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor23 pages - 27:00 minutes in lengthI.II.III.Piano Trio No. 2 Strange Rims in three movements was composed in 2005, and was the 1st piece I composed after relocating to New York City. It was composed during a 40-day bus tour around the country as well as at my new apartment in midtown New York City. The complexity and difficulty of the music reflects some of the transitions to the new urban big city life I encountered in New York coming from a more sedate lifestyle in amongst the avocado groves of north San Diego county. I had a hunch that my composing could change direction somewhat during this time of transition and reflect a different character. In anticipation of this new stage, decided to compose one of the more technically difficult ensemble works I have written to date. I pushed the boundaries of my own style and ability in order to compose something unique for piano in this piece. I had in mind a brilliant pianist Soyeon Lee from Korea who inspired the composition with her virtuoso technique, and her unique personality. The musical direction was further directed by one of the strangest music tours I have been on with a cast of characters containing some who did not get along at all and quit the tour, while others got along too well and created a different kind of havoc. With a pianist from the Pacific Rim as one source of inspiration, while the wheels on the strange bus tour kept turning on the American highways, the title Strange Rims captured the many layers I was living and seeing at the time. Original music printed from the composer’s manuscripts.Music editing, copying and engraving by Mark O’Connorusing Finale on Apple Macintosh 2005 Composed by Mark O’ConnorMark O’Connor Piano Trio with Soyeon Lee and Soo Bae soon to be released on OMAC Records Catalogue Number MO166CCopyright © 2005 by Mark O’Connor Music International For more information on violinist and composer Mark O'Connor, O’Connor String Camps, Touring Ensembles, Discography, Bio, Repertoire and more, please visitwww.markoconnor.com For information on the O’Connor Method – instructional book series for violin, viola, cello and school string orchestra programs:www.oconnormethod.com

Mark O'Connor Musik International #6201675. Published by Mark O'Connor Musik International (A0.861778). String Quartet No. 1 (a.k.a. Quartet) MO129BAdapted for string quartet (two violins, viola and cello) by Mark O’ConnorViolin 1 Part (score and parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor20 pages - 31:00 minutes in lengthMovement I (6:40)Movement II (8:21)Movement III (7:51)Movement IV (7:17)Quartet adapted for two violins, viola and cello in four movements, was commissioned by the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival in 1990 and was premiered in August of that year. This piece represents Mark O’Connor’s first work in a classical genre. The original instrumentation called for an unorthodox combination, omitting the usual second violin part and adding bass, to highlight the contrast between his fiddling style and the classical style of the other players. Upon his adapting of the score, O’Connor discovered that in many situations, execution was much more successful with the standard string quartet configuration. The Quartet was released on the Warner Bros. recording, The Fiddle Concerto. O’Connor, Daniel Phillips, Carter Brey and Edgar Meyer were the original cast who helped usher in the new O’Connor music style which helped pave the way for many more pieces to come. In this four-movement work, O’Connor offers a multitude of insights into ways in which traditional fiddling and the classical string writing of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries resemble each other. The music is suited for advanced and intermediate levels. Original music printed from the composer’s manuscripts.Music editing, copying and engraving by Mark O’Connorusing Finale on Apple Macintosh 1989 Composed By Mark O’ConnorString Quartet No. 1 (Quartet) can be heard on The Fiddle Concerto Warner Bros. Original music printed from the composer’s manuscripts.Music editing, copying and engraving by Mark O’Connorusing Finale on Apple Macintosh 2005 Composed by Mark O’ConnorMark O’Connor Piano Trio with Soyeon Lee and Soo Bae soon to be released on OMAC Records Catalogue Number MO166ACopyright © 2005 by Mark O’Connor Music International For more information on violinist and composer Mark O'Connor, O’Connor String Camps, Touring Ensembles, Discography, Bio, Repertoire and more, please visitwww.markoconnor.com For information on the O’Connor Method – instructional book series for violin, viola, cello and school string orchestra programs:www.oconnormethod.com

Quartet) MO129AAdapted for string quartet (two violins, viola and cello) by Mark O’ConnorScore (parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor55 pages - 31:00 minutes in lengthMovement I (6:40)Movement II (8:21)Movement III (7:51)Movement IV (7:17)Quartet adapted for two violins, viola and cello in four movements, was commissioned by the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival in 1990 and was premiered in August of that year. The movements, Call of the Mockingbird, Trail of Tears, and Fanfare for the Volunteer reflect on broad themes relating to the history and culture of the state. The work was released in 1999 on a cd for Sony Classical performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra titled by its final movement Fanfare for the Volunteer.Call of the Mockingbird;  The evocations of nature and landscape. In the course of its many voicings (both literal and figurative), the theme evokes a broad range of images, from the bird of the title to the ruggedness of the Appalachian terrain.Trail of Tears;  The tragedy of the forced migration of the Cherokee Indians in 1838-39. An episode in American history, the work incorporates aspects of Native American, Celtic and Central European traditions within the broader context of a symphonic composition.Fanfare for the Volunteer;  The fierce and bittersweet pride of the southeastern United States. Perhaps, the clearest blending of O’Connor’s background as a traditional fiddler with his more recent work as a symphonic composer. The occasional hints of Irish balladry evoke nothing so much as the keenest sense of longing.-Jackson Braider(The music is suited for advanced levels) Original music printed from the composer’s manuscripts.Music editing, copying and engraving by Mark O’Connorusing Finale on Apple Macintosh 1994-95 Composed by Mark O’ConnorCommissioned by the Nashville Symphony OrchestraCan be heard on Fanfare for the Volunteer!
