Classical,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 18 pages. Pete Strohm Music #6672669. Published by Pete Strohm Music (A0.928593). Johannes Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 1, expertly arranged by American composer P. F. Strohm for a trio consisting of two tenor trombones and piano. Brahms was enthralled with the rhythms and melodies of Hungarian music. He originally wrote his 21 Hungarian Dances for piano four-hands, and loved performing them for his friends. P. F. Strohm has placed the first six of these musical gems into a new setting of two trombones and piano, drawing from the original piano score; from the violin and piano arrangements made by Brahms' friend, Joseph Joachim; and from Brahms' own solo piano arrangements. These new arrangements are for skilled performers on all parts. Written for and dedicated to Mark Kellogg and Larry Zalkind at the Eastman School of Music, the dances are excellent for recitals and contests, and make wonderful encores. Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.835450 Composed by Stuart Brown. Concert,Contemporary. Score. 12 pages. Stuart Brown Music #2859967. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835450). This is not your typical nocturne. This is night as it really is for many people: a time of restlessness, of anxiety, in which you lie awake or even feel the need to get out of the house for a while. This music is for all of those nights when you wonder what on earth is happening to the world around you, when you feel troubled by the contradictions between you and the world, when you dread the morning news of the results of an election or referendum; when you just want to shout at the world, I'm out of here ... imagine a night in which you need to step outside to gather your thoughts. You feel the chill of the night air as you stand gazing up at the sky. As clouds move above, you turn over in your mind the things that are troubling you. Gradually you begin to see more clearly the difference between the things you cannot change and those that you can; and with that realisation comes serenity and finally you are able to sleep. The composer, who is a passionate believer in unity rather than division, wrote this music three days after Britain's 2016 referendum on its continued membership of the European Union, reflecting his feelings about the outcome. This is, therefore, as deeply personal a piece of music as you'll get. Include it in a program and it will help to put the rest of the program into perspective. The music itself demonstrates that nonatonic and octatonic modes of limited transposition can be used to create melodies and harmonic progressions that combine tension with great beauty. At notated tempi the work lasts just under ten minutes. It is of advanced intermediate difficulty, the main challenges for the player being the complex modality and the shifting rhythms. The sound file provided here is the composer's own live performance, recorded on Saturday, September 10th, 2016. It is possibly appropriate for high school performance: students who are interested are welcome to get in touch with the composer via www.facebook.com/StuartBrownComposer/

Instrumental Duet Bassoon,Clarinet,Instrumental Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.956613 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by Catriona Melville-Mason. Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 7 pages. C Melville-Mason #6477753. Published by C Melville-Mason (A0.956613). Slavonic Dances Op 46, written in 1878, was something of a breakthrough work for Czech composer Antonin Dvorak, finally establishing his reputation well beyond his native land.  The dances are original melodies, inspired by, and drawing on, the character of traditional national dances, rather than works based on existing folk tunes, as was the fashion among composers at around that time.  These Slavonic Dances were originally written for piano 4 hands but, at his publisher’s request, Dvorak produced orchestrated versions shortly thereafter.  The pieces proved so popular that Dvorak composed a second set, Op. 72, in 1886. Op. 46, No. 3 is in the form of the polka, a dance which originated in Bohemia.  This arrangement, for mixed woodwind duo of B-flat clarinet and bassoon, is best suited to players of advanced intermediate standard or above.

Large Ensemble Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553794 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 31 pages. RayThompsonMusic #4621337. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553794). The Slavonic Dances (Czech: Slovanské tance) are a series of 16 orchestral pieces composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1878 and 1886 and published in two sets as Op. 46 and Op. 72 respectively. Originally written for piano four hands, the Slavonic Dances were inspired by Johannes Brahms's own Hungarian Dances and were orchestrated at the request of Dvořák's publisher soon after composition. The pieces, lively and full of national character, were well received at the time and today are considered among the composer's most memorable works, occasionally making appearances in popular culture. Contrary to what the title might suggest, the dances are not so much inspired by Slavic folk music generally, but specifically by styles and forms from Bohemia. In these pieces, Dvořák never actually quotes folk melodies, but evokes their style and spirit by using traditional rhythmic patterns and structures in keeping with traditional folk dances. This is my arrangement of No 7 from the first set Op.46This is titled SkoÄná  which is a rapid Slavic folk-dance, normally in 24 metre.Arranged double wind quintet and bass.

Cello,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1258663 Composed by P. F. Strohm. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. Score and part. 12 pages. Pete Strohm Music #851921. Published by Pete Strohm Music (A0.1258663). Impromptu No. 4  for Violoncello and Piano is the fourth in a set of one-movement works from American composer P. F. Strohm. The first five of these impromptus are intended for skilled players, requiring great tone, technique and musicality from both performers. They are outstanding works for contest, concert or recital, either individually or as a set. The fourth impromptu is in basic ABA song form, with lush, flowing melodies for the cello and a piano part that creates a visual flow of its own with graceful arpeggios and hand-crossings. Those hand-crossings are in part to sustain the constant striking of a deep interval that echoes in the opening and closing sections. This impromptu conveys emotion and reflection, nowhere more evident than a brief call and response section at midpoint that implies an improvisation over a blues progression. Difficulty level is medium-advanced. Performance time is 5:45.  Member, ASCAP.
