Johann Joachim Quantz was a German flutist, composer, and music theorist of the Baroque era. He was born in Oberscheden, Germany, and is considered one of the most important figures in classical chamber music and duets.
Quantz was a prolific composer, having written more than 300 concertos and over 200 flute sonatas. His works for flute and continuo were especially popular during the 18th century. His most famous work, Versuch einer Anweisung die Flöte traversiere zu spielen (On Playing the Flute), is a comprehensive guide to playing the flute, and was widely read and studied by flutists for many years.
