Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1171245 Composed by Christopher Tin and Emily Dickinson. Arranged by Lisa Ochoco. Contemporary,Film/TV. 21 pages. Lisa L Ochoco #771583. Published by Lisa L Ochoco (A0.1171245). Christopher Tin is a contemporary composer who is best known for his choral piece called Baba Yetu.  With an impressive educational background in music composition, English literature, and art history, his compositions come to life with like nothing that I've experienced before. It is simply some of the most beautiful and expressive music I have ever heard.  The Lost Birds is a musical memorial to bird species driven to extinction by humans.  Tin’s soundtrack is a fantastic work of art, with its soaring musical phrases that make you feel like you’re flying.  The Saddest Noise is a choral piece, with its lyrics taken from Emily Dickinson’s poem, “The Saddest Noise, the Sweetest Noise,” which talks of the relationship between beauty and grief.   The saddest noise, the sweetest noise, The maddest noise that grows, The birds, they make it in the spring, At night’s delicious close.   Between the March and April line That magical frontier Beyond which summer hesitates, Almost too heavenly near.   It makes us think of all the dead That sauntered with us here, By separation’s sorcery Made cruelly more dear.   It makes us think of what we had, And what we now deplore. We almost wish those siren throats Would go and sing no more.   An ear can break a human heart As quickly as a spear, We wish the ear had not a heart So dangerously near.   The Lost Birds soundtrack was sung by the choral group, Voces8, who made the music and poetry come to life in a way that not many other groups could.  It is simply beautiful. This arrangement is scored for clarinet choir – 4 Bb, alto, bass, and contrabass.  There is an optional Eb part to play in addition to, or in lieu of, the 1st Bb part.  This is not a strict transcription - I added moving parts and changed/added notes to make it of more interest as an instrumental piece.  I hope you like it. Duration: 3.5 minutes.

B-Flat Trumpet,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1080679 Composed by Alex Lewis and Eddie Lewis. Classical,Multicultural,World. Score and part. 9 pages. Tiger Music #684898. Published by Tiger Music (A0.1080679). Southwest Sunrise Trumpet Solo Eddie Lewis and Alex Lewis MTR P111 4137 Southwest Sunrise is a trumpet solo for beginner trumpet students that has a more complicated piano part. I often get requests for music for students of different skill levels. And in fact, that’s what of my strengths as a writer, is that I can blend parts across skill levels that way. In this case, Alex and I were striving for something that would be interesting for the pianist, but not overly challenging for the beginner trumpet student. The Process The inspiration for this piece came to me on a morning walk in Chandler, Arizona. Chandler is a suburb of Phoenix. I was walking east, into the rising sun. It was a very simple melody. It was a very simple blues melody that I immediately recognized as something that would work in our series for beginner trumpet students. This was during a time when my son, Alex, and I were already collaborating on some other projects. For this piece, I gave Alex the melody and gave him a general description of what I was hearing. Then I gave him his space to create what sounded good to him. The next stage was me editing some of his creativity. At this point we went back and forth on a few issues until we agreed on the final results. SKILL LEVEL The skill level for Southwest Sunrise is Trumpet Pioneer (we don’t have skill levels for piano parts yet on this website). Trumpet Pioner is the first of seven levels in our system. These are absolute beginners who have only been playing the trumpet for a few months. Our Trumpet Pioneer level limits the range to C in the staff. We also limit rhythms to nothing smaller than quarter-notes, and key signatures are limited to one flat or sharp. Practice Recommendations While it is obvious and I don’t normally list it as a point in this practice recommendations, but the rhythms are very different between the trumpet part and the trumpet part. So it is even MORE important to spend time listening to the composition long before you begin practicing it. As I said, this is a good habit for working on all performance pieces. There is research that proves that students learn their music best when they recognize their mistakes soonest. When you listen to the music repeatedly before you practice, it goes a long way towards helping you recognize your mistakes. This is one of the most important reasons for listening, but there are others that I won’t go into here. Assuming the pianist is far more advanced than the trumpeter, the pianist should assume a patient, educational role.

Instrumental Duet Harp,Instrumental Duet,Viola - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1039821 Composed by David M. Sterrett. Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 49 pages. David Sterrett Music #644665. Published by David Sterrett Music (A0.1039821). This piece depicts the story of the Penitent Thief, one of the two other men who hung on a cross beside Jesus, as told in the Bible: One of the thieves who were hanged by Jesus was hurling abuse at him, saying, 'Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!' But the other answered, and rebuking him, said, 'Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? We indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.' And he was saying, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom!' And Jesus said to him, 'Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.' (Luke 23:39-43) I initially set out to portray the scene from a narrative perspective. As I began composing and felt the story resonate more and more with my own spiritual experiences, I decided to shift the focus onto what I imagined the emotional and spiritual experiences of the Penitent Thief were during this brief but transformative interaction with Jesus right before death. While the passage does not describe his internal experience, I imagine that Jesus’ extension of kindness and mercy, along with the promise “Today you will be with me in Paradise,” profoundly impacted him. In composing this, I hoped to convey that transformative encounter. Ultimately, The Penitent Thief depicts an experience familiar to many Christians: that of a lost and broken soul discovering Jesus offers the truth and salvation they long for. To capture the element of dialog, I envisioned the Viola as the Penitent Thief and the Harp as Jesus. Each has a distinct theme/motif. On the cross, the Penitent Thief is consumed by shame, sorrow, and fear of death. His demeanor shifts between moments of quiet contemplation and visceral emotional outbursts. Facing imminent death, he yearns for redemption and truth. He looks at Jesus hanging next to him, blameless and holy. He feels admiration and praise and is overcome by penitence and humility. He calls out, half in desperation, half in worship: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom…” Jesus, moved by his penitence and belief, responds with kindness and mercy, extending salvation: Today you will be with me in Paradise.” The Penitent Thief imagines Paradise and hopes for this to hold true. His hope becomes briefly overshadowed by lingering doubt and fear. Silence falls. Then, as the hour of death arrives, the man reaches out again and clings to Jesus’ promise, this time with more desperation. His soul suddenly becomes filled with joy, finding the fulfillment of longing, bound with Christ, and knowing that he will soon be at rest in Paradise. At peace, the man gazes upward, gives his final sputtering breath, and his soul departs this world.

Piano Quartet Cello,Piano,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1404728 Composed by Terry Vosbein. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical. 57 pages. Max Frank Music #987795. Published by Max Frank Music (A0.1404728). “Parallel Tracks” was primarily inspired by a ten day train trip, from the heart of Virginia to the far west and back. It is not necessarily a narrative of that journey. Rather, it is a collage of sensations, taking in the sounds, smells, tastes, and feelings of the voyage. Much like the views through the train windows, the musical vistas of this work change rapidly. There are rolling fertile plains, deep river valleys, and jagged mountainous peaks. The train passes through some of the nations’s larg- est cities and some of its tiniest bergs, crosses some of the oldest and newest mountain ranges in the country. There are tunnels and trestles, forests, farms, and prairies. It is incredibly calm yet delightfully exciting. There is something elegant about spending an extended period crossing the country in an Amtrak roomette. On such trains as the Cardinal, the Empire Builder, the Coast Starlight, and the Califor- nia Zephyr, it feels as if one is stepping into the past. Nothing is rushed. Fine dining, spectacular views, riveting conversations with strangers. The grandeur of the mighty stations, such as Union Station in Chicago. And the humble beauty of the smaller stops like Staunton, Virginia, my starting and ending point. The perpetual motion of train travel is unique. The movement can feel smooth at times and bone rattling just a few minutes later. It can be a quiet purr or the sound of grating metal. And yet the gentle sway can envelop one like a blanket, enticing deep sleep throughout the night. Waking to pastries and coffee while rolling across the countryside is divine. And elegant.“Parallel Tracks” begins with a sound of forward motion put forth by the piano. Smooth and easy. Plucked strings ride on top of the steady piano pad as the chain of cars passes effortlessly through fields. As the cello presents the first theme, a more strident feeling is revealed and explored, driv- ing the engine toward its dramatic destinations. The first climax gives way to a playful scherzo-like section, the elegance of the journey on full display. The return of the first theme at a more majestic tempo announces that the voyage’s terminus is near. The parallel tracks on which a train glides are always a fixed distance and never cross. The parallel tracks of life are not so bound by mathematics. There is something more fluid when the tracks are allowed to cross. The string section and the piano each create their own track in this composition, frequently squaring off. At times it is if they are on the same train but sitting in opposite directions and on the opposite side of the car. There are moments that even sound as if they are proceeding at two different speeds. But their tracks are never too divergent, never really out of sync. And both arrive at the final stop together.

Published by Greg Woodward (A0.1458772). In Dreams is a gentle, contemplative piece based on a harmonically ambiguous arepeggiated ten-note figure in the right-hand which moves in and out of phase with the meter of the left hand part (largely 3/4). It builds to a warm forte section about two-thirds of the way through before dying away to nothing as the right-hand figure gradually evaporates. It isn't technically very difficult but keeping the more melodic left-hand part expressive whilst keeping the right-hand part dispassionate and cold is a good challenge for a more advanced student. Thanks to local Tasmanian pianist Karen Smithies for her beautiful rendition of the piece.Visit my YouTube page for more performances, arrangements and compositions.

Published by John Philips Music Service (A0.947259). Some of the best known classical themes are presented in a steady tempo that will please your audience. See the back cover for the tune list. Since these classic themes are presented to a young played in a manner that he can play without being faced with music that is so difficult  he can never enjoy playing it, they will be more likely to go on to become more able to do the heavy stuff. This is one of a series of charts for string orchestra that are easy to play and each relate to a single theme---patriotic, ethnic, activity, holiday or age related songs. Being easy to play---nothing past an eighth note and no hemi-demi-semi-quavers--they will be more apt to be in tune and this is good for all concerned. They all are in tempo and have a swing feeling to them to make your audience like them. After all--this is about making music and not displaying technique. Parts are Violin 1 & 2 / Violin 3 (Viola Part) / Viola /Cello / Optional Acoustic Guitar (No Electrics) / Bass / Piano / Full Score / Front & Back Covers. Bass and piano are required to make these arrangements work. See the back cover for the tune list and tempos.  Electric bass works if read.  Maybe you could convert to a cello or upright player?

This arrangement by Jay Dougherty will steal the hearts of your audience and make them want to dance along. It is written for 4 part treble voices (or quartet) and solo (five total voice parts). While most arrangements of this song are in 8 or more parts, this version has been parsed down to make it more accessible to groups needing fewer parts.NOTE: There is a 10-copy minimum purchase. However, the per-copy price is set to the lowest possible setting at $1.99. If you want this song with one one a part (quartet plus solo), please understand that with the 10-copy minimum (10 x $1.99), you're still paying only $20 for legal access to this music. The arranger gets nearly nothing, and you're getting great legal music for $4 per quartet member. Learning tracks are available at: www.jmdougherty.comFor more information on arrangements and compositions by Jay Dougherty, visit www.jmdougherty.com.
