Today I wanted to share my newest composition - Qui sedes, Domine which is based on the Gregorian chant Gradual for the 3rd Sunday in Advent. It is dedicated to organist Angela Kraft Cross. She visited Vilnius and played the organ at Vinius University St John's church last year.

Although this Gradual is written in the 7th mode, to make it more colorful, I often changed and transposed the mode throughout the piece.

It's a free paraphrase of Gregorian chant. The pedal maintains a dialogue with the hand part.

Sister Mary Hueller, DMA, colleague of Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSF, was professor of organ and liturgical music at Alverno College (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) throughout her professional career. After Sr. Theophane Hytrek's passing, Sr. Mary succeeded her as organist at St. Joseph Chapel for several decades. Based on its Gregorian Chant counterpart, Ubi Caritas, it is a practical service composition written for the Holy Thursday liturgy. It is also useful throughout the liturgical year. This collection of Psalm Interpretations for Organ features eight original compositions that reflect the spirit of verses from selected psalms. It is suggested that the psalm verses associated with each setting be included in the congregational leaflet or printed recital program. For variety, the entire psalm could be read before the playing of the musical setting. These settings were suggested by and written for Dr. Joan DeVee Dixon, Professor of Music at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland. Dr. Dixon also serves as organist and director of music at the historic Emmanuel Parish in Cumberland, Maryland. The work was commissioned by Dr. Alvin C Broyles, retired senior research associate of Exxon Production Research Company. His is a dedicated supporter of the arts and a lifetime member of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas.

This work was inspired by the poem of the same name by Keats. It was written originally for saxophone and organ by its comissioner the saxophonist Paul Wehage and Françoise Lvéchin-Gangloff, the organist at the Church of Sain Roch in Paris where the work was premièred on February 12, 2012 It also exists in a version for saxophone and piano and for saxophone and string orchestra (with harp). The orchestral version was recorded on Thérèse Brenet's CD Le Livre de L'Harmonie du Monde on JTB-Prod (http://www.jtbprod.com/llhm.htm ) The work is not a literal illustration of the poem, but an evocation of emotional states between a Romantic literary work and the music which the writing inspired more than a century and a half later, seen through a Modern musical aesthetic.
