[mi?? r?dino], translated as Dear Motherland or Dear native land) is the current national anthem of Bulgaria.There are alternative versions for Symphony & Brass Quintet in my stores.It is based on the music and text of the song Gorda Stara Planina by Tsvetan Radoslavov, written and composed as he left to fight in the Serbo-Bulgarian War in 1885. The anthem was adopted in 1964. The text has been changed many times, most recently in 1990.Between 1886 and 1944, the Bulgarian national anthem was Shumi Maritsa (???? ??????); from 1950 to 1964, it was My Bulgaria, land of heroes (Balgariyo mila, zemya na geroi, ????????? ????, ???? ?? ?????); in the brief period between these two, it was the march Republiko nasha, zdravey (????????? ????, ???????!).Originally written and composed by a Bulgarian student in 1885, as he went off to fight in the Serbo-Bulgarian war, the song was titled “????? ????? ???????” (“Gorda Stara planina”) [Proudly Rise the Balkan Peaks]. The original lyrics have undergone revisions since its original composition, the latest after the fall of the communist government in 1990 where verses not in the original lyrics speaking of friendship with Russia, the Communist Party, and fallen fighters were removed. Christmas Joy is a 3-4-5 octave, 58 measure, handbell choir arrangement, which is a medley of Christmas carols, including Joy to the World, O, Little Town of Bethlehem, a little bit of O Come, All Ye Faithful and the chorus to Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. I would guess that this arrangement is a level 2+ (2 plus) degree of difficulty, due primarily to the quick eighth-note bass runs in Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. It starts softly, then repeats the opening phrase (Joy to the World) twice, each time louder. The last time, which actually starts the carol, is loud and bold. This naturally contrasts with the next carol (O, Little Town of Bethlehem). The first line of O Come Let Us Adore Him forms a natural-sounding bridge to the enthusiastic chorus of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. The very ending is half-timed, with tolls (swings). I think that this arrangement is probably a 2+ (2 plus) level of difficulty.

This prelude is based on the very well-known hymn tune of Hyfrydol, which is known by many different texts.  Some texts are Love divine, all loves excelling, Come, thou long expected Jesus, and Alleluia, sing to Jesus, among many others.  This prelude can work in a variety of fashions, whether at a faster tempo and louder registration, or at a slower pace with softer stops. The recording here has both settings, the first loud, and the scond soft.   Be creative!  It was written and recorded on a two manual instrument.  I hope it can add beauty to your services as a prelude, offertory, or communion music.

They should be played slightly louder than the other right hand material, but not loud enough to sound like an accent. Don't be scared by the bracketed notes in measures 10, 12, and 22! These are called duplets. They are similar to triplets, but instead of using three notes in place of two, they use two notes in place of three. If this confuses you, practice measures 9-12 by counting sixteenth notes. Note that the dotted quarter note in measure 10 will require 6 sixteenths, whereas both of the duple notes will require three.

Flute-represents a bird’s call.Trombone-carries the sound and theme of the crow throughout the piece.Triangle-is the soft sound of noises in the woods, that are so low that they are often not heard.Maracas-represents the rattlesnake’s rattle when he is disturbed and angry.Wood Blocks-represent the sound of the woodpecker.Bass Guitar-is the background of the piece and sometimes the edgy feeling one gets when walking in (what they thought) was an empty forest.Piano-is the crow’s call.Tenor Voice-is meant to represent a cry in the forest but is only included twice in the piece.Cello-Is also the background music but gives one the feeling of coldness creeping upon them. The piece is meant to be slow, and eerie; maybe to some it sounds spacey.The glissandos for the Bass Guitar are to be played when the guitarist hits the first note and uses a glass cup against the string and slowly move it up and down the string to make a weird vibrato like sound.The glissandos for the Trombone are mainly the echoes of the forest that surround the person. It’s the crow’s call being echoed.The Piano can play with the crow’s call starting out loud then fading or diminishing as it also echoes in the distance. Not to be played too fast.The Flute can get louder as it repeats its lines.The Triangle is soft but not too soft. It must be able to be heard against the other instruments.The Cello may use as much vibrato or screech sounds as it wants with the use of the bow.The Tenor may use as much legato as they want.
