This is bravura piano playing and not for the faint of heart. The right hand has a long passage of double notes at 16th-note speed. The left hand plays 8th-note many-octave-spanning double notes for much of the arrangement, and then has double notes at 16th-note speed for the final section. To perform this will require a lot of practice and then sheer (relaxed!) bravado.Forest Green is really my all-time favorite melody. I anticipate setting it a dozen or more different ways.For example, this is the melody the English use for the Christmas carol O Little Town of Bethlehem, and I have arranged it more lyrically for that song. Perhaps someday it will make it onto a CD.I have also used this melody for the final section of my arrangement of All Through the Night on Under the Greenwood Tree. That is a far more lyrical arrangement as well.This melody, in a highly arranged version, also makes a cameo in These Hands Held Music, on Passages.All of these arrangements are currently available in pdf. The celebrated 19th century Scottish novelist, Sir Walter Scott - like Robert Burns (Scotland) and Thomas Moore (Ireland) - took old ballads and folksong melodies, and wrote new lyrics to these traditional melodies, a common practice from at least the 18th century onwards, and right up to the time of W. B. Yeats' The Salley Gardens. Scott adapted the 'border ballad' (old folksongs and ballads from the southern border of Scotland and the north of England), John of Hazel Green (or 'Hazelgreen'), keeping to the 'gist' of the original story about a young woman forced against her will into an arranged marriage with a young wealthy 'squire'; but, she loves 'Jock' (or 'John', and sometimes, 'Jack'!), and so, on her wedding day, she elopes with 'John'/'Jack'/'Jock', escaping 'over the border' (north or south, take your pick!), thus beyond the reach of powerful 'squires' and family! (the small border town of 'Gretna Green' was traditionally the place to elope to, and be guaranteed a swift union without the usual formalities, like the 'posting of bans').

The last twenty years of his life he spent as leader of the spa-orchestra in Wiesbaden and was devoted on composing. He performed in all European cultural centres, as London, Manchester, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris, Munich, Dresden, Leipzig etc. Still he often and gladly returned to his home city Bartfeld. Kéler has written 27 big waltzes, 27 marches, 20 csárdás, 18 polkas, 15 songs, 13 galops, 12 overtures, a ballet and several „musical paintings, such as the idyllic Carpathians, his first important composition which praises the Slovakian nature. The most frequently played theme of Kéler´s work are the 32 bars from his csárdás Memory of Bartfeld, op. 31, which were used by Johannes Brahms for his Hungarian dance No. 5 in the original notation of the author. Kéler´s music, in the time of its creation, could hold his own with the Vienna masters Joseph Lanner and „king of waltzes Johann Strauss jun. Already in his lifetime his 138 compositions were edited in 12 European countries. His manuscripts now belong in parts to the collection of the Å ariÅ¡ museum at Bardejov.
