Instrumental Duet Alto Saxophone,Flute,Instrumental Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.594024

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by David McKeown. Christmas,Jazz,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6534975. Published by David McKeown (A0.594024).

Ding Dong Merrily on High is a much-loved Christmas carol. This version is arranged as a duet in a Jazz Shuffle/Swing style for one Flute and one Alto Saxophone. Click on the YouTube link above to listen to a full length performance of this arrangement played on Clarinet.

The melody of Ding Dong Merrily on High first appeared in a French book of secular dance tunes during the sixteenth century. The Christmas lyrics we know and love were added much later by English composer and rector George Ratcliffe Woodward and first published in 1924.

With a performance time around of three minutes, this version of Ding Dong Merrily on High is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. The jazz shuffle style is a fun and fresh take on this familiar traditional tune.

Ding Dong Merrily on High is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. Rhythms are syncopated, as one would expect in swing music, and there is plenty of articulation detail to help deliver an authentic style. While the key is straightforward, there are several chromatic passages to keep players on their toes. The melody is played twice, with short bell-chiming intros and outros. This arrangement is suitable for players at an intermediate or early advanced level.

The Easter Bonnet Bop is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for one Flute and one Alto Saxophone.

The Easter Bonnet Bop is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. The origins of the word Bop lie in the scat language of the ‘40s; Bop quickly became associated with the fast Bebop jazz of the period as musicians vocalised the offbeat rhythms of their angular melodies. Later in the ‘50s when Rockabilly and Rock’n’Roll first appeared, Bop was used to describe both the dance moves and the dance venues themselves.

The Easter Bonnet Bop is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by the fast tempo and syncopated rhythms and accidentals. With a playing-time of around one and a half minutes, The Easter Bonnet Bop is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal. The Baby Sheep Shuffle is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for one Flute and one Alto Saxophone

The Baby Sheep Shuffle is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. Shuffle rhythms can be found in the Swing music of Glenn Miller right through Rock’n’Roll, R’n’B and to the modern day. The Shuffle connection allowed Swing dance styles like Lindy Hop and Jitterbug to be adapted for Rock’n’Roll music in the late 50s and beyond.

The Chocolate Chalypso is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for one Trumpet and one Trombone

Chocolate Chalypso is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. In the late ‘50s just a handful of national TV shows in the US had a huge influence on the music and dance crazes of the time. Artists and dances came and went with dizzying speed. Chalypso was a short-lived craze in 1958 that combined the music of the new Rock’n’Roll with much-simplified steps borrowed from Cha Cha and Calypso; and no sooner had it caught on than it was itself supplanted by The Twist.

Chocolate Chalypso is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by some syncopated rhythms and accidentals.
