A Siciliano is based on a graceful rustic dance of Sicily, and is considered a type of Pastorale. The Siciliano style always has dotted rhythms. It is normally in compound time, but I have changed it here to make it more accessible for beginners. Â This arrangement is based on the opening theme from Voluntary II for Organ by John Alcock, Jr. Mr. Alcock was an organist from the Classical Period and this piece is a great example of the Classical characteristics with a lyrical melody of light elegance. The two parts, which each stay within the range of 1 octave, are equally balanced, playing in parallel thirds much of the time, and the rest of the time playing off of each other in tight ensemble work. Â This makes a great recital piece to develop your melodic tone and showcase the melodies of the Classical Period. Â For 2 Altos, 2 Tenors, or 2 Sopranos(1 page score, 1 page @ part, with repeats - 2 1/2 minutes)recording of piano playing the two parts to give you an idea
