Choral Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.730506 Composed by James Nathaniel Holland. Broadway,Contemporary,Jazz,Musical/Show,Opera. Score. 212 pages. James Nathaniel Holland #5869141. Published by James Nathaniel Holland (A0.730506). Piano Vocal Score. Full score and individual parts sold separately. Moliere's 300 year old play Le malade imaginaire is adapted into a three act comedic opera by American composer James Nathaniel Holland (adaption, music and libretto). It's the story of a hypochondriac, studio mogul who is willing to marry off his daughter to his celebrity doctor's son to save on expenses. From the other side, his ambitious, hypocritical wife is trying to swindle his fortune. Only his long-time secretary and partner can save him and unite his daughter with the young man who she actually loves. Set in 1930's Los Angeles, Hollywood with early jazz elements, quasi musical numbers that will delight and tickle your audiences today. A small cast opera of about 8 singers (2 tenors, soprano, mezzo, coloratura, 2 baritones, and bass baritone) with no chorus and relatively small sized orchestra, this piece is perfect for any university or small opera house, and it's libretto is originally in English. Suitable for all audiences. Duration: 1 hour and 45 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEcbVsA36MCvU97UVaZdWAPdzkN8woFtw (Revised 2022 Version with 2 additional arias).

Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767278 Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. Arranged by Mike Lyons. Baroque. Score and parts. 36 pages. Lyons Music Services #3218697. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767278). As part of my continuing project to transcribe Monteverdi's madrigals onto winds, here is the 6th book. In this book we see a much greater development towards dramatic representation. In a way, this book is divisible into two Scenes with a number of single items in between. The vocal lines are all much more complex and we can also see the beginnings of monodic writing appear in the semi-recit sections of some of the songs. Also clearly developing are delineations of the voices into soloists and chorus. Several songs in this book are almost akin to arias, with clear soloistic writing for the higher voices (Cantus/Tenor). The ninth song (counting the 6 parts of Sestina as one item) is Ohime il bel viso - Alas! The pretty face sees our young man trying to wheedle an encounter out of his lover. Complaining how much her beauty makes him mad with passion. As with all things madrigalian, the lyrics are rife with double entendres. Monteverdi uses some very close dissonances to describe death and release.

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1104138 Composed by H.W. Petrie. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. 19th Century,Children,Comedy,Pop,Wedding. 28 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #707372. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1104138).       Howard W. Petrie was a composer of popular music active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One of his most popular songs was “I Don’t Want to Play in Your Yard,†published early in his career, 1894. The song underwent a revival in the mid-1950s when Peggy Lee recorded it. It also figured prominently in the popular 1981 film Reds. Lyrics are credited to Philip Wingate, and his first verse sets up the story. Two little girls were next-door neighbors and best of friends. One day, however, a quarrel arose and “hot tears were shared.†One announced, “You can’t play in our yard.†The reply of the other forms the familiar chorus: I don't want to play in your yard, I don't like you any more, You'll be sorry when you see me sliding down our cellar door, You can't holler down our rain-barrel, you can't climb our apple tree, I don't want to play in your yard, if you won't be good to me.       The second verse tells of the reconciliation. The two girls miss each other. They kiss and make up and remain friends “all thro’ life.†But “in sweet dreams of childhood†we still remember the controversy of the yard.       This version features the group's Trumpets somewhat taking the roles of the two little girls. It retains the F major key in which it was written, changes tempo four times (in addition to a few rallentando/a tempo instructions) and includes two short, rather simple cadenzas, one for each Trumpet. It starts (rather incongruously!) with the eight 4/4 measures of “Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary†then transitions to ¾ for the remainder of the piece.       Trumpets predominate with melody and lead. However Horn and Trombone do occasionally come to the fore to provide introductions, call-and-response figures and recapitulations. Both Trumpets play a few notes above their staff—G# and A—but for the most part, all instruments perform within their normal playing range. Performance time is about three and a half minutes to perform.       Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 34 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box. (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.).

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1310999 By Elton John. By Bernie Taupin and Elton John. Arranged by Roy Rashbrook. 20th Century,A Cappella,Contest,Festival,Singer/Songwriter. 7 pages. Silverbright Music #899973. Published by Silverbright Music (A0.1310999). One More Arrow originally featured as the closing song of 1983's album Too Low For Zero. It's a perfect song to include in a programme on the subject of life and remembrance. Bernie Taupin's beautiful lyrics present an elegy for a departed friend or father figure who now lies in the soft brown earth that holds him, forever always young. The lyrics drew from Elton John one of his most gorgeous melodies and I have kept much of the harmony intact in this arrangement, although the second verse gets a bit more ambitious. In addition, the melody is shared out between the various vocal parts, meaning that the basses don't have to spend the entire performance going doo doo!Scored for Soprano solo, SATB á capella, this moderately difficult arrangement involves frequent splits in the Soprano and Bass parts, occasional splits in the alto and none at all in the tenor! In my arrangements, I like to go one step beyond simply presenting the original song for choir, so in the second verse there's the gentlest of subtle nods to Paul Simon's The Boxer at the mention of he could have been a boxer and the lyric knocked me down provides an opportunity for a choral cascade from top to bottom. And just before the final chorus, the choir's vocal lines represent the trajectory of an arrow, shooting up to a top F in the soprano solo part before descending into the new key of B flat major for the closing section. For medium to advanced chamber choirs.

Its inspiration is taken from a typical day at a scout camp, starting with hoisting the flag and a calm moment in early morning, before the real adventures begin. After walking in the nature and enjoying its beauty, the adventures continue and rise up to the finale with songs and rejoicing around the campfire.

Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552827 Composed by Adam. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christian,Christmas. Score and part. 10 pages. Jmsgu3 #3410423. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552827). O Holy Night arranged for Baritone Horn & Piano. Duration: 4:56 Score: 5 pg, 44 ms. Solo part: 2 pg. Piano part: 3 pg.Cantique de Noël The French composer Adolphe Adam was already famous as a composer of many successful ballets and operas. Then, in the 1840’s he wrote his most famous work - O Holy Night. The original song title was Minuit Chretiens or Cantique de Noël.  Placide Cappeau provided the original song lyrics. The song was first performed in Roquemaure by the opera singer Emily Laurey at midnight mass in 1847. It became very popular among the French, much the way that Silent Night was famous elsewhere. In the 1850’s John S. Dwight, a Unitarian minister and music teacher translated the song into English.   Adolphe Adam In his younger years, Adam studied organ and composition at the Paris Conservatoire. He also played the timpani in the Conservatoire orchestra. Adam used his savings and borrowed money to open a new opera house - the fourth opera house in Paris in 1847. Unfortunately, the Revolution of 1848 forced him to close. He taught composition at the Paris Conservatoire from 1849 until his death in 1856. Placide Cappeau The poet Cappeau was an advocate of the French Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire.  Voltaire was renowned for criticizing the Catholic church, religious intolerance, and dogma in general. Consequently, Cappeau made the Redeemer figure in his song a kind of reformer of injustices, in particular, the problem of original sin. To begin with, people recognized Cappeau’s theology as eccentric, probably even doubtful. Theology In the earlier form of Minuit, the Christ figure descends to intervene with His Father’s plan to punish mankind.  Traditional doctrine pronounces that Christ came from love, not to intervene. This version also declares that Christ appeared to expunge the original sin of Adam. Cappeau removed this part from his poem years later, because he just didn’t believe it.  He preferred to portray Christ as the reformer of disparity and unfairness. Before long, the writer/politician Alphonse de Lamartine referred to the Minuit as the the Marseillaise of religion. Most French churchmen agreed with this idea but certainly did not consider it a tribute.  Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com
