Tango d’Elinora is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Trombones.This duet is written in the style of early twentieth century Tango music. Tango first appeared as in the late nineteenth century in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but it wasn’t long before the dance craze spread to North America and Europe. Performers like Carlos Gardel were the international superstars of their day. More recently the Nuevo Tango of Astor Piazzolla and others has pushed the boundaries and ensured that Tango is still a vibrant art form today. If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. Rhythms should be lightly articulated with the first beat in the bar always strong; the melody should always flow and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Tango d’Elinora has a performance time of just under three minutes. This version is arranged as a duet for two Trombones. Little is known of the origin of this traditional tune. A Nacht in Gan Eden is in the Freylekh style, a happy piece played at medium to fast tempo for dancing. A Nacht in Gan Eden is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a final repeat of the first section and with constant variations in the accompaniment. A Nacht in Gan Eden is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around four minutes, this version of A Nacht in Gan Eden is perfect for weddings, celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. Bach reserved it for a few of his most impressive works, such as the Kyrie in the Mass in B minor. Bach composed his ‘French’ suites as a young man of thirty, when he was working at the court of Köthen. However, the suites have nothing to do with the court. Bach wrote them for teaching purposes in his own private circle. The first five appear in their original form in the little music book he compiled in 1722 for his second wife Anna Magdalena, possibly as a wedding present. But Bach continued to rework the pieces. The later versions, with the addition of a sixth suite, have survived thanks to the many copies made by his pupils. They are rewarding practice pieces that despite a certain compositional complexity (it is Bach, after all), do not make extreme demands on the player.
