It is written in two languages: in Greek (Alexandrian koine) from two parts of the Holy Scripture and in English that sound simulteneously. It is modelled after multi-lingual motets of the Renaissance. The soloists, Baritone and Soprano, present their lines in a dialogue. The opening motive replicates the literal meaning of Greek word metanoeite, related to turning. The harmonic language (in choral presentation) refers to the language of Sergei Rachmaninoff (with ii4/3 resolving into V7 and V4/2 in descending motion).
