Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1249638 Composed by David Rubinstein. 20th Century,21st Century,Comedy. Score and Parts. 170 pages. David Rubinstein #844042. Published by David Rubinstein (A0.1249638). ...one of the very few piano concertos ever written that I could handle technically. -Peter Schickele (P.D.Q. Bach) Transposed orchestral score and parts - one PDF.One-Note Concerto: a neo-classical romp on the key of B7 for piano and orchestra in three short movements. Premiered by the Hartford Symphony in 2006.One-Note Concerto combines a wide range of melodies that are surprisingly woven together through the reiteration - by the 'soloist' - of a single pitch (a very high “Bâ€). From carnival-like tunes in the first movement, to introspective waltzes in the second, to a violent (yet lighthearted!) presto in the finale, this concerto aggressively pursues a sense of musical drama with its tongue firmly placed in its cheek.†  -  Jamie Allen, director of the Santa Fe New Music YouthFest.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534136 Composed by Louis Adolphe Mayeur. Opera,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 49 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3133403. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534136). Louis Adolphe Mayeur (1837 - 1894), was a Belgium clarinetist, saxophonist, composer and conductor who spent most of his musical career in France; Entering the French Military in 1855, he was a clarinetist in the Second Régiment of the Cuirassiers (Mounted Calvary) of the Garde Impériale. A student of Klosé at the Paris Conservatory, he received his First Prize in Clarinet in 1860. One of the inner circle of Adolphe Sax (along with fellow Belgiums Jules Demersseman and Jean-Baptiste Singelée, whose “Quartet for Saxophones“ was premièred with Mayeur playing and Demersseman conducting), Mayeur took up the saxophone and was quickly engaged as the saxophone soloist in the Opera House of Brussels, La Monnaie (the Mint). Sax commissioned a number of works from Mayeur for the saxophone, which were published by his company and used in his class at the Paris Conservatory.By 1871, Mayeur was also named Saxophone Solo with the Paris Opera, performing in opears and ballets by Halévy, Meyerbeer, Thomas, Saint-Saens, Massenet,   Délibes and Paladlihe. It would appear that sometime during this period, his relations with Sax became difficult, culminating in his publications of works by Buffet-Crampon, one of Sax’s rival companies and one of the main protagonists in the series of lawsuits which led to Sax’s bankrupcy. Mayeur’s own declining health lead to his death in 1894.The Grande Fantaisie de Concert sur Rigoletto dates from 1877. The contrasting sections use motifs from arias and duets from Verdi’s opera. Florid cadenzas seperate the various sections, but those passages should be played in the manner of “bel canto†ornamentation, always lyrical and songlike.  This is the score and solo part for the orchestral version. Versions are available from Musik Fabrik for piano for Symhony Orchestra (on rental : 2222/2000/Timp/hp/strings) and for Concert Band (for sale). The score plus solo part for each of the versions is available for sale, as well as the individual parts for the concert band version

Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533114). The Concertino for alto saxophone and string orchestra was written for and is dedicated to saxophonist Nuno Miguel Silva. The work is in three movements. The first movement, “Introduction and Allegro†begins with an introductory passage which leads to an extended cadenza. The allegro uses a contrasting set of two themes, one of which is syncopated and dancelike, the other which is lyrical and expressive. The Aria which follows is in an ABA lied form with extended passage work for the soloist at the return of the theme. The Rondo-finale is a rollicking scherzo which is presented in a variety of forms, first in the saxophone and then in the violins, after several developmental passages and a final cadenza, returns to end the work with a final flourish. A reduction for alto saxophone is avaialble as a different item. The orchestral parts are available on rentel from the publisher.

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.809889 Composed by Robert E. Proctor. Blues,Contemporary. Score and parts. 270 pages. R. E. Proctor #4800403. Published by R. E. Proctor (A0.809889). This concerto is in the traditional three movement format with the first and third movements being fast and the middle movement slow.  The second and third movements are most like a blues work.  The first movement is a rondo format, is not particularly bluesy.  A Les Paulâ„¢ guitar would play particularly well in this movement.  The second movement switches between the soloist as the distorted guitar sound to the vocalist as the clean guitar sound.  The final movement is happy, upbeat, and lively good time blues.  In the second and third movements in particular, the basses (cello, double bass) should be easily heard. At the end of the third movement, the precisionist on the drum set should improvise a loud, untimed measure, solo utilizing all the drums and cymbals in the set ending with four moderately paced and slowing beats on the snare drum.  A momentary pause, then the final chord. The guitarist will need at least one foot pedal for distortion enabling him/her to switch between a clean sound and a distorted sound.  The guitar should be the equivalent of a Fenderâ„¢ Stratocaster or Telecaster guitar; a Gibsonâ„¢ Les Paul would do nicely also.  The music is partially fingered leaving the player the opportunity to interpret the part.  The work is after the fashion of Chicago style blues of the 1960’s.  The conductor and guitarist may wish to listen to recordings by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, John Lee Hooker, John Mayall and the Blues Breakers, B.B. King, etc. to get a feel for the music of the 1960’s blues bands.  It would be highly desirable to use an organ, for the 3rd movement, that can produce a Hammond B3â„¢ with Leslie sound, as that instrument was widely used in blues of that period.  Although some of the notes notated as harmonics (h) in the score can be played as fretted notes, playing them as natural and artificial harmonics provides an interesting change of tonality.  The orchestral part is not particularly challenging.  The concerto is approx. 17 minutes in length.

Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533762 Composed by Carson Cooman. Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 55 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3043953. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533762). Flute Concerto (2006) was commissioned by flutist Judith von Hopf and theKiev Philharmonic and premiered by them under the direction of GuidoLamell. The work is in two movements: Chanson and Fantasy Variations. The first movement, Chanson, is an extended “song†that develops through avariety of textures. The opening song material is centered around G#. In turn, this G# is revealed to be a quasi-dominant of a D centered sonority. (A briefcoda returns to G#, in preparation for the D center of the second movement.)The second movement, Fantasy Variations, is cast as two presentations ofthe theme surrounding five free variations, plus a coda. The theme serves asthe basis of the musical material for each variation as well as the structuraltemplate for each. Also, each variation contains material referring backspecifically to the previous variation. The opening theme is declamatory and massive. The first variation is fastand limber. The second variation is introspective and stratified. The thirdvariation is fleeting. The fourth variation is distant and spare. The fifthvariation is fast and driving. The final theme begins whispered and slowlyregains its declamatory nature before a brief and intense coda ends the workin a blaze. This item is the score and the solo part only. The orchestral parts are on rental from the publisher. The piano reduction is for sale as a seperate item.Instrumentation2 Flutes (2nd dbl. Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533655 Composed by Carson Cooman. Contemporary. Score and parts. 39 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3035627. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533655). Commissioned by and is dedicated to trombonist Haim Avitsur. Throughout the work, the trombone is placed into a variety of different musical contexts—sometimes with bleakness and sometimes with warmth. The work begins with the tubular bells alone, presenting the principal musical material of the work. The strings enter with a suspended tapestry, through which the trombone plays its opening melodies. In this section, the trombone has a cantorial role—singing and interacting with the orchestra. These opening musical ideas are developed as the trumpet, horn, and clarinet join the trombone in soloistic roles. A signal gesture on the trumpet is heard once, interrupting the tapestry. When the signal is heard again, the music accelerates into the second section. The second section is fast and bell-like as the trombone sings excited lines through ringing masses of sound. Whirring figurations emerge in the winds and are picked up by the strings. The sectiongrows wilder until it climaxes in hammer chords. From this, the trumpet, bells, and trombone emerge—maintaining and propelling the energy of thesection. Gradually, the energy is released, leading into the third section. The third section is chorale-like, combining again suspended sounds in the strings with harmonic motion in the winds in brass. The trombone again plays a cantorial role. A build up of energy occurs at the end of this section, leading into the fourth and final section—the cadenza. The trombone bursts into the cadenza, not with a forceful shout, but with a whisper. The work winds down to its conclusion—without a loss of speed or energy, but rather by the increase of silence. Instrumentation: 2111/1100/timp/1perc/soloTbn/strings The score by itself is available as another item. The parts are on rental from the publisher.

String Orchestra - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1275415 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Kenneth Baird. Christmas,Classical,Comedy,Holiday,Traditional. Score and Parts. 28 pages. Kenneth Baird Music #867338. Published by Kenneth Baird Music (A0.1275415). Fantasy on the Twelve Days of Christmas for Pompous Egocentric Soloist and String Orchestra.Hilarious! This solo feature will undoubtedly be the most talked-about selection on your Winter concert! While the Twelve Days of Christmas has long been a Christmas holiday favorite, you’ve never heard it played like this before. Here is an opportunity for the musical AND comedic talents of one of your most advanced players to be featured! The soloist plays the role of an accomplished, yet most pretentious and self-aggrandizing soloist. The accompanying orchestra parts are not difficult, although a more advanced orchestra will be able to make even more of the light-hearted and occasionally dramatic accompaniment. A two-page outline of suggestions are also provided to help enhance the comedy, but you are invited to put your own comedic stamp on the performance. Early in the work, the soloist has a few very simple solo passages which he or she deftly and smugly executes flawlessly. As the music proceeds, the soloist is highlighted with several showy, but brief, cadenzas. The mood then changes and becomes melodramatic and sorrowful, perhaps requiring a stagehand to produce a handkerchief and dry the tears of the soloist (and perhaps the conductor). The work ultimately concludes in a joyful and spirited manner. Your audience will long remember Fantasy on the Twelve Days of Christmas. Arranged for Solo Cello with string orchestra, optional solo parts for viola and for violin are also provided.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.878900 Composed by Eric Moore. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 83 pages. Cello Loft #3420919. Published by Cello Loft (A0.878900). Written for an advanced high school cellist to play with his/her own school orchestra. This is a great way to feature a fantastic cellist while introducing the whole orchestra (and audience) to some accessible trends in contemporary music. The orchestra students were *very* excited and engaged with this piece, and the audience absolutely loved it.Compositional goals included:Accessible introduction to contemporary music.Fun and engaging parts for each section of the orchestraHighlight both cellist and orchestra with parts that sound difficult but are relatively simple.Clear-cut form and motivic material as a starting point for discussion of composition.Circles is 11:00 long, in 4 movements with no breaks.Mvt I. Circles begins high-energy and includes sweeping arpeggio figures and measured tremolo oscillations. The energy dissipates and a simple lyrical theme emerges, battling complications as they arise in the orchestra.Mvt II. Passacaglia is built over an exotic vamp and includes jete (to imitate castanets), col legno, snap pizz and instrument slaps. Mvt III. Lament begins with the soloist doing slow pizzicato arpeggiations while the orchestra bows weeping chords. Eventually, everyone is pizzicato, echoing and transforming the solo line. A cello cadenza recalls material from the Passacaglia. The soloist introduces triple-stop string crossings that lead into the fourth movement.Mvt IV. Coda is fast, with the triple stops in the solo part as a moto perpetuo, while the string sections come in one-by-one underneath. By the end, everyone is bowing and we circle back to the opening material of the 1st movement. The Soloist should be fluent through 3 octaves.Orchestra parts are easier and generally require fluency through 4th position. Written in 2011-12 and premiered by Eric with the Mountain View High School (Loveland, CO), Peter Toews conducting. Recording is of that premier. Eric can provide a MIDI if desired.Eric is happy to work with the orchestra and/or soloist via Skype (or a similar arrangement).

Thomas Oboe Lee #25515. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869364). Instrumentation: SATB chorus and soloists plus orchestra 2222-2221-timp-perc-hp-org-strings. Mass for the Holy Year 2000 is in nine movements and scored for SATB chorus, chamber orchestra and organ. I set the entire Latin text from the Ordinary of the Mass: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei. In between these sections, I added four settings of contemporary poems written in English. Initially, I wanted to use poems that would bring to the listener's attention the serious humanitarian issues we face every day on earth as we enter a new millennium: religious and ethnic wars, poverty, genocide, AIDS, intolerance, social inequality and racial injustice. But as I began to slowly understand the text of the Mass, I decided that the contemporary poems I would use should reflect and amplify what is already in the Latin text. It is all about faith and redemption. Elizabeth Kirschner (b. 1955) is a poet who lives in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Her poem is about the search for God. Claude McKay (1890-1948), a member of the Harlem Renaissance Poets, was originally from Jamaica. His poem asks for God's presence. Edith Stein (1891-1942) was a Carmelite nun who was killed by the Nazis during World War II because she was a Jew. Her poem celebrates God's presence. The final poem is by the Trappist monk, Thomas Merton (1915-1968). His poem, which was published posthumously, is about the assassination of the civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King.
