Sicilienne, originally written for Violin and Piano by female composer Maria Theresia von Paradis (1759 – 1824), is arguably one of her most renowned works. With its elegant melody and gently lilting chords - typical of the Sicilian dance form, the arrangment in G Major will surely please the hearts.

Interestingly, the attribution of this work to Paradis is uncertain, with many having noted of its similarities to Weber's Romanze from Violin Sonata Op.10, No.1.

About the song

Ave Maria is one of Franz Schubert's most well-known and revered compositions. Although it is often associated with the Catholic prayer, Schubert's music is actually an adaptation of a work by Walter Scott, a Scottish poet. Schubert composed the melody as part of his piece Ellens Gesang III (Ellen's Song III), which is a series of songs based on Scott's poems.

Ave Maria was composed in 1825 and is one of the most popular and beloved pieces in the classical repertoire. The gentle and melancholic melody, combined with the Latin lyrics invoking the Virgin Mary, evokes a sense of serenity and devotion. The Last Rose of Summer is a work deeply rooted in Irish culture, originally penned as a poem by the renowned poet and composer Thomas Moore in 1805. Moore, regarded as Ireland’s national poet, was inspired by an 'Old Blush' rose while staying at Jenkinstown Castle in County Kilkenny, Ireland. The poem was published as part of his Irish Melodies collection between 1807 and 1834, and later set to music by fellow Irishman John Stevenson. The song gained widespread popularity and was incorporated into the opera Martha by the German composer Friedrich von Flotow, which premiered in 1847 in Vienna.

The Tulip Ch’Boogie is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for one Clarinet and one Alto Clarinet. 

The Tulip Ch’Boogie is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. Boogie originally referred to the piano style found in Southern State bars where the driving swung bass-line, often double in octaves, cut through the noise. These bass-line patterns were adapted by Big Bands in the ‘30s, and later by Jump bands like that of Louis Jordan. Later still Boogie was quickly incorporated into Rockabilly and Rock’n’Roll.

The Tulip Ch’Boogie is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by the fast tempo and syncopated rhythms and accidentals. With a playing-time of around one and a half minutes, The Tulip Ch’Boogie is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal. Salut d’Amour, originally titled Liebesgruss (Love’s Greeting), was Edward Elgar’s return gift to his fiancée Caroline Ann Rodgers.  She had just written a poem The Wind at Dawn to which he promptly wrote accompanying music.  

Elgar went to Schott Publishing to see if it could be published, for which Schott paid Elgar just over £1 in 1888 (worth just under 200USD in 2022).  Schott decided to change the name to Salut d’Amour as it would sound more romantic and sell more copies, which it did.

Considered one of the most romantic pieces, this setting allows several instruments of the band to take part in the original solo line.  A beautiful addition to more than just your Valentine's program.

Scored for the smaller British Brass Band with a minimum of 9 parts and up to the full band.  Duration ~ 2:45. 28 pages.
