Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1398326 By The Platters. By Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach. Arranged by Martyn Clive Johnson (aka Martycli Piano Guy). 20th Century,Film/TV,Jazz,Pop,Standards. Score. 7 pages. Martyn Johnson #981602. Published by Martyn Johnson (A0.1398326). This tune was written in 1933 by Jerome Kern with words by Otto Harbach for the musical 'Robera'. It has been recorded by so many great artists but perhaps most famously by 'The Platters'. I have arranged it for piano in the key of F which and then modulated into Ab second time round. It has further key changes within the tune during the bridge. I have reharmonised it significantly to give it a jazz feel. I have given it a semi-quaver/sixteenth note feel rather than a swing beat which I felt suited it as a ballad. Please note it is a piano solo and doesn't include the bass line that is on my YouTube recording. I write all my arrangements as piano solos first so it sounds perfect as such. I don't include pedal markings, fingerings or dynamics and prefer to leave this to the discretion of the individual pianist as you will get no two piano teachers to agree on these issues. It's a wonderful tune and I hope you have as much fun playing my arrangement as I had writing it.

At the height of his fame from the 1950s to 1970s, he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world!Lyrics below:They asked me how I knewMy true love was trueI of course repliedSomething here inside cannot be deniedThey said someday you'll find all who love are blindWhen your heart's on fire,You must realize, smoke gets in your eyesSo I chaffed them and I gaily laughedTo think they could doubt my loveYet today my love has flown away,I am without my love (without my love)Now laughing friends derideTears I cannot hideSo I smile and sayWhen a lovely flame dies, smoke gets in your eyes(Smoke gets in your eyes, smoke gets in your eyes)Smoke gets in your eyes

Rhythm Section SATB Chorus divisi,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1501444 By Various. By Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach. Arranged by Darmon Meader. Jazz. Vocal Jazz Ensemble. 40 pages. Darmon Meader Music #1077390. Published by Darmon Meader Music (A0.1501444). This is an energetic medium swing arrangement of the 1933 Jerome Kern, Otto Harbach classic. Arranged in the New York Voices style, this chart was debuted by Darmon's college level ensemble at the 2024 New York Voices Western Michigan Vocal Jazz Camp. This is a relatively challenging arrangement designed for an advanced high school or college group. There are a few shorter lyric solos, and plenty of room for vocal or instrumental improvisation. This chart is a bit challenging, but worth the effort. The tenors and basses have a LOT of 3rds/7ths relationships, so many tri-tones to be sung. If you've got some strong tenors and basses, give it a try!The PDF set includes: SSATB with chords, Piano, Bass, Drums and Full Score. Rhythm section parts include some fully notated sections, but are mostly chord changes with kicks and hits.
