Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.793364 Composed by Minni K. Ang. Christian. Score. 4 pages. Dr Minni Ang #4757921. Published by Dr Minni Ang (A0.793364). Poetic verse set to music, suitable for solo or choral presentation. Here are the lyrics:Have you seen the birds in flight, have you seen the stars at night, Precious rare and pretty sights, they really set my heart alight. God created such beautiful things, He gave us still morning air, He gave us life, everything we have, and love for us to share. Have you seen the virgin snow, untouched by mortals here below, Or watched a little baby grow, or seen the seasons come and go? This is beauty in all of its splendour yet even this lasts not forever, But love goes on its beauty is forever, yes it goes on and ceases never.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1137248 Composed by John Ross. Classical,Patriotic. Octavo. 12 pages. John Ross #737448. Published by John Ross (A0.1137248). “For the Fallen†was written for Bec Beall and her choir “Lux Alba†and was premiered by them in 2019 at St Matthew’s Church, Albury, NSW, Australia. The words of this choral suite were written by the English poet Laurence Binyon in 1914, immediately after the Battle of Mons, where the British Expeditionary Force suffered a serious loss, soon after the start of World War I. The fourth verse (“They shall not grow old as we that are left grow oldâ€) has become known as the “Ode of Remembranceâ€, regularly recited at memorial services. This suite uses the words of the Ode for the first movement, with echoes of the bugle call “The Last Postâ€. The second movement, “They went with songs to the battle†portrays the soldiers as young men in fine fettle, physically and mentally fit for what lies ahead of them. The third movement, “As the stars that shall be bright as we are dust†compares the war dead to stars and constellations. They move “in marches upon the heavenly plainâ€. Will Longstaff’s painting “Menin Gate at Midnight†(reproduced on the cover of this score) movingly illustrates this concept, with ghostly soldiers marching by the Menin Gate at Ypres, Belgium. The work concludes with an alternate setting of the opening movement “They shall not grow oldâ€. A version of this suite with organ accompaniment is also available on this website.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1328892 By Ryuichi Sakamoto. By Ryuichi Sakamoto. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 21st Century,Classical,Film/TV,Multicultural,World. 74 pages. John Ivor Holland #916902. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1328892). Ryuichi Sakamoto (傿œ¬ é¾) (1952-2023) was a Japanese composer, pianist, record producer, and actor who pursued a diverse range of styles as a solo artist and as a member of Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO). With his bandmates Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi, Sakamoto influenced and pioneered a number of electronic music genres. As a film score composer, Sakamoto won an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Grammy, and two Golden Globe Awards. 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence' (1983) marked his debut as both an actor and a film-score composer and his most successful work was 'The Last Emperor' (1987). 'Blu' (ブルー) was composed for an advert to mark the 50th anniversary of the Japanese clothing brand Aoyama Shouji and the title could be a reference to the colour of their business suits; the structure, after a quiet opening, is very reminiscent of Ravel's 'Bolero' and accompanies visuals of workers going about their day, gradually ending with a bit of a night out at the end before slumping into bed. There are some lovely moments for alto flute, cor anglais and tuned percussion; 'Blu' would be a great companion to a performance alongside 'Bolero' or other dance pieces.

Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.841250 Composed by Chris Gordon. Contemporary. Octavo. 18 pages. Cool Wind Music Digital #3029087. Published by Cool Wind Music Digital (A0.841250). A setting of a very powerful poem by English poet, Ted Hughes, about the onset of autumn in an English (Yorkshire) garden and the surrounding countryside.  It is full of pathos and passion, harmony and dissonance, chaos and peace - just like English weather! This is a very individual and innovative choral setting of Hughes' poem which is, itself, rich in 'meaty' metaphor and colour - and the composer is a vegetarian! It evokes a savage Nature within a savage landscape where humans and animals compete for space and for food. It is October, the fields and woods and gardens of rural Yorkshire are readying themselves for the cold and desolation (and despair) of winter which isn't far away in time. 'A glass, half-filled with wine, left out(side) To the dark heaven all night, by dawn Has dreamed a premonition of ice across its eye as if the ice-age had begun its heave.'   That is only two and a half stanzas but you see from these lines that there are veiled threats of (Nature's) violence in the heavy tread of the poet's slowly-building angst over what is happening in the surrounding countryside - and his fear grows, and his awe grows, with every line. There is even fear underlining the very last line: 'And now it is about to start.' Winter is creeping closer and closer towards the house and it will not be pleasant to experience!I have tried to instil a little of this in the music which keeps skidding from consonance to dissonance and back to consonance. Sometimes the dissonance piles up, like snow driven by the wind piles up into deep banks; sometimes the music relaxes into stillness and calm (painted in tonal music) like a crisp, mild late autumn or early winter's day when the sun warms the landscape and life appears bearable, tolerable. I hope this adds to the song's 'charm'. It wasn't easy to write: sometimes the right music was elusive. The music ends with the word 'October' repeated three times, with voices overlapping in a little canon. This conjures up the wistful feelings of the poet as he looks out onto a peaceful scene, soon to be filled with all manner of 'natural violence', while his inner peace will soon be shattered by the mayhem about to be unleashed around him.Setting Ted Hughes is no easy task. It is for choirs and choirmasters to judge if I have succeeded in conveying the 'sense and sensibility' of a classic 20th century English poem. The price is for one copy: please purchase a sufficient number of scores if you intend to perform this work. SMP Press offers discounts for multiple-copy purchases.

Acoustic Guitar,Instrumental Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1152799 Composed by Traditional/Anonymous. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Classical,Early Music,Folk,Traditional. Individual part. 48 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #753038. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1152799). This is the tenth volume of an extensive collection of folk songs arranged for the classical guitar mostly in two-part counterpoint. The arrangements are of moderate difficulty and the aims of this publication are to familiarise, entertain and educate guitarists (and other musicians) with a melodic repertoire of lasting aesthetic value, under the light of contrapuntal treatment. The thirty five volumes of this collection can certainly be printed on paper if so desired and there are a few pages in each volume, either blank or with photographs of various musicians, which can be inserted at will in any place for the correct ordering of left and right hand pages so that page turns can be avoided. The principle of avoiding page turns has been maintained in all volumes, but this edition is also designed with mobile electronic devices in mind such as tablets etc, using the environment and facilities of a score reading application, towards a paperless world, at least in music. Therefore the size of the staves is bigger than usual for ease of reading on a small screen but not big enough to exceed the limit of a two-page view. Active internal links for navigating from thematic indexes to particular songs and back to indexes have been added, and also external internet links to sites that give further information for the 945 songs of this first collection for classical guitar.Volume 10 (Songs 244-270)Dilly Song 1 (the)Dilly Song 2 (the)Dives and LazarusDo you remember that nightDonkey RidingDorrington Lads (My Dearie She Sits Ower Late up)Doun the Burn DavieDowie Dens of Yarrow (the)Down By Sally’s GardenDown in the Meadows (O Waly Waly-variant)Down in Yon Forest 1Down in Yon Forest 2Dragoon and the Lady 1 (the)Dragoon and the Lady 2 (the)Dragoon and the Lady 3 (the)Dragoon and the Lady 4 (the)Drill Drill ye TarriersDrink To Me OnlyDrover’s Dream (the)Drowned Lover (the)Drowsy Sleeper (Arise, Arise-new setting)Drummer and the Cook (the)Drummer Boy of Waterloo (the)Duke of Marlborough (the)Dunster Carol 1 (I Hear Along Our Street)Dunster Carol 2 (I Hear Along Our Street)Dying Cowboy (the).

Instrumental Duet Alto Saxophone,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Digital Download SKU: A0.942498 Composed by Nikolai Clavier. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk,World. Score and parts. 58 pages. Nikolai Clavier #6039345. Published by Nikolai Clavier (A0.942498). I was asked to write this piece for a Norwegian saxophonist studying in Copenhagen. He was looking for new music from each of the Scandinavian countries, and I decided to make my contribution a homage to the beautiful nature that Norway has to offer. Thus I drew inspiration from traditional folk music, as well as the majestic images of mountains, fjords and valleys across the Norwegian landscape. This piece has five movements and each has an illustrating title, creating a narrative sequence of movements. A vignette is a brief evocative description, account or episode. This produced a challenge in the sense that I had to be musically brief and technically concrete withing the span of a short movement. This in addition to the challenge of creating appropriate soundscapes and colors. The five movements are:I. Views over the FjordII. Winter sceneryIII. Nora at the farmIV. The Midnight Sun over the Finnmark HighlandsV. Autumn rain at the southern coastAn other interesting fact to note is the fact that the last four movements has rather specific seasons attached to themselves. Second movement is a winter movement with the original title Snow covered mountains and icy waters, and then follows a spring movement, a clear summer movement and autumn at last.

Brian Joyce #6567925. Published by Brian Joyce (A0.836719). Even very well-versed singers can be forgiven if they have never heard of Everett Maxwell (1858-1940). He was simply one of millions in the vast American workingclass, one who was known to jot down a poem or two now and then. Here we have six examples of his work, poems which he wrote for his childhood sweetheart whom he waited fifty years to marry. Maxwell’s great grandson asked me to set these poems to music saying, the poems illuminate a picture of life in the American midwest during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His poetry serves as a lens through which we can view his . . . youthful romantic view of nineteenth-century prairie life.Since the poems are so imbued with nostalgia and 19th century romanticism, I endeavored to set them with an equally strong sense of the classic art song tradition.Curiously, these songs feel longer than they actually are. There are many pieces about which one could say the same thing with less charity, but in this case it’s a good thing: the poems are quite short (the longest is only twelve lines, the shortest only four!)The entire cycle lasts just under 12 minutes. The audio sample includes most of one song (A June Night) and all of a second (Have You Found a Place?). These are enough to give you a sense of the whole cycle.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1210931 Composed by Elizabeth Borowsky. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 7 pages. Piano Prodigies #808641. Published by Piano Prodigies (A0.1210931). In Hebrew, “Boker Tov†means “Good morning,†and “Laila Tov†means “Good night.†This piece, named by a student who had recently celebrated her Bat Mitzvah, explores the first and last experiences of our daily life: awakening and drifting off to sleep. The first movement’s patterns were specifically modeled after the third movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, so as to prepare the player to take on this work in the future. However, unlike the original Presto agitato, this work is slow, expressive, and calm, and even hints at some inspiration from Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D. Think about awakening and gently stretching your fingers! Laila Tov was inspired by Erik Satie’s Gymnopédie No. 1, and a tribute to the student’s recent trip to Paris.

By Geraldine (Denny) Green. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. 56 pages. Geraldine (Denny) Green at Oakmountmusic #903616. Published by Geraldine (Denny) Green at Oakmountmusic (A0.1314855). ALL PURCHASES COME WITH SCORE AND PARTSThis short piece is very dear to my heart and lasts only about 3 minutes. It was written down in 1988 when I was 19, but had been with me in my head since I was about 8. Back then I had no idea how to write down full orchestral music, but after all my teenage years spent feeding off the Great Masters and studying their brilliant orchestrations in scores, I finally made an attempt at notating this florid little piece when I was at college (London College of Music) in 1988. Not wishing to waste it, I have now revised it and finally prepared its score and parts for performance.InstrumentationPiccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 Bflat clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 French horns in F, 2 Bflat Trumpets, 2 Trombones, Bass trombone, Glock, 2 harps, celesta, large string section to accommodate divisi into 3 for all except the basses.Duration – 3 minutes approx. All the parts are fairly straightforward, except the harps and celesta, which I believe to be of some challenge. If it was to find a place in a concert programme, I believe it would be a lovely encore – a really loving way to send your audience home from a great night out. A thank you to the audience. A Good Night To All kind of piece, full of love and delight.
