Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1472849

Composed by Todd Marchand. Christian,Sacred. 5 pages. Con Spirito Music #1050479. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1472849).

“That We May Give Ourselves” is a short anthem based on a traditional collect — a prayer comprising an invocation, petition, and conclusion — that appears in various Anglican prayer books.

The invocation, “Eternal God and Father, by whose power we are created and by whose love we are redeemed” acknowledges the eternity, creative power, and redeeming love of God.

The petition, “Guide and strengthen us by your Spirit, that we may give ourselves to your service, and live this day in love to one another, and live this day in love to you” asks for the aid of the Holy Spirit in service to God and recalls Jesus's words in the Gospel of Matthew, 22:37-39: “And [Jesus] said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

The conclusion, “through Jesus Christ our Lord,” reflects the mediating role of Jesus Christ the Son, as expressed in I Timothy 2:5 (“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”) and Ephesians 2:18 (“For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father”).

Appropriate at any time of year, this short anthem of dedication is an ideal offertory selection.

A Musical for Young Voices - The Story of the Tower of Babel Leading to Pentecost In Genesis 11 and Acts 2 we read about two events where languages helped fulfill God's purpose. When the people of Babel built the tower, they were led by the human spirit and ended up in confusion, scattered over the earth, speaking different languages. At Pentecost, people from many nations, speaking different languages, were led by the Holy Spirit; and even in their diversity, they were united. This 35-minute musical for young voices (Unison w/opt. Two-Part) links together these Old Testament and New Testament stories with songs, humor and heart. The message is, if we follow the Great Commandments - ?loving God and loving our neighbors, no matter how different from us they are or what language they speak - we will surely be filled with the Holy Spirit. A score with piano accompaniment and a singers edition without the piano part are both included for the one price. You may make as many copies as you require for use by your choir. Separate audio MP3s and instrumental parts are available, and there is a video of the debut performance on the Hope YouTube channel.

Composed by James Nathaniel Holland. Contemporary,Holiday,Patriotic. Score and parts. 80 pages. James Nathaniel Holland #3629797. Published by James Nathaniel Holland (A0.730464).

(Duration: 25 minutes) Full Orchestral Score Only in Concert Pitch.

James Nathaniel Holland is an American classical music composer of operas, symphonies, ballets, songs, and other musical concertworks that incorporate a unique, eclectic, blend of romantic, classical, world and jazz styles. In this second of his piano concerto, he blends jazz with sensitivity, rhythmic to lyrical.

This concerto is entitled New York Tour because like the city that inspired it, it travels throughout times, musical neighborhoods and cultures.  Great compliment in programming with Mozart piano concertos or Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue to feature American classical composers or for the Fourth of July summer concert.

YouTube presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAKDrGPLa3g

Instrumentation: picc, fl., ob.12, clBb 12, Bsn12, Hrn 123, Tpt 12, Trmb. 12, Tba, Timp, Perc (glock, bass drum, small gong, s. cym w/mall and stl., slapstick, tri., hh) Piano solo, strings.

Born and raised in Indiana, James Nathaniel Holland studied music at DePauw University, Vienna Austria, Interlochen National Music Camp and Indiana University (Bloomington, IN). At these schools many of his early pieces were premiered and performed, with one work being selected for main-stage production in the season. Moving to Los Angeles and then settling in New York, he performed professionally sometimes as a singer, sometimes as a pianist, sometimes as choral conductor. He composed incidental music for the stage. In 2002 he founded a composers collective where they showcased their work. He was one of the first composers to participate in the American Music Center's initial on-line library. The New Jersey Concert Opera and the Gay Men's Chorus of New Jersey also featured his comic operas and art songs. From 2005 he moved to Costa Rica where he organized concerts with visiting guest artists to present his chamber music to the public. Presently he lives in a castle in the central mountains of Costa Rica.

SKU: A0.1104138

Composed by H.W. Petrie. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. 19th Century,Children,Comedy,Pop,Wedding. 28 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #707372. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1104138).

Howard W. Petrie was a composer of popular music active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One of his most popular songs was “I Don’t Want to Play in Your Yard,†published early in his career, 1894. The song underwent a revival in the mid-1950s when Peggy Lee recorded it. It also figured prominently in the popular 1981 film Reds.

Lyrics are credited to Philip Wingate, and his first verse sets up the story. Two little girls were next-door neighbors and best of friends. One day, however, a quarrel arose and “hot tears were shared.†One announced, “You can’t play in our yard.†The reply of the other forms the familiar chorus:

I don't want to play in your yard, I don't like you any more,

You'll be sorry when you see me sliding down our cellar door,

You can't holler down our rain-barrel, you can't climb our apple tree,

I don't want to play in your yard, if you won't be good to me.

The second verse tells of the reconciliation. The two girls miss each other. They kiss and make up and remain friends “all thro’ life.†But “in sweet dreams of childhood†we still remember the controversy of the yard.

This version features the group's Trumpets somewhat taking the roles of the two little girls. It retains the F major key in which it was written, changes tempo four times (in addition to a few rallentando/a tempo instructions) and includes two short, rather simple cadenzas, one for each Trumpet. It starts (rather incongruously!) with the eight 4/4 measures of “Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary†then transitions to ¾ for the remainder of the piece.

Trumpets predominate with melody and lead. However Horn and Trombone do occasionally come to the fore to provide introductions, call-and-response figures and recapitulations. Both Trumpets play a few notes above their staff—G# and A—but for the most part, all instruments perform within their normal playing range. Performance time is about three and a half minutes to perform.

Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 34 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box. (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.).

A bold, striking choral composition with music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Mark R. Fotheringham.

Text:
1. Through a troubled world we wander,
Faced with sin on every side,
But the banner which we follow
Gives us courage to abide.
We will honor our Exemplar
And the path that He has shown,
Never heeding any evil way.
Thus may we be called His own.

2. With our hands we'll help our neighbors.
With our hearts we'll show His love.
With our voices testifying
Truth revealed from up above.
Thus our ranks will swell with soldiers
As we add more to our rolls.
Armed with faith and love and sacrifice,
We battle to win all souls.

CHORUS
For the Lord, He is our Captain.
We will e'er His servants be.
He will lead us ever unto God,
Lead on to victory.

3. When at last the war is over,
When the race has run its course,
May we then return in honor
To the One who is our source.
As we kneel before our Captain
To be judged of all our deeds,
He will honor all who served Him well,
For all who are true He pleads.

CHORUS.
