This is a transcription for trombone ensemble of the complete William Tell Overture, written by Gioacchino Rossini, dedicated to the Szeged Trombone Ensemble (SETREN) and further arranged for the Eastman Trombone Choir. In reimagining the work for trombone octet, American composer P. F. Strohm has kept the piece in the original orchestral keys, and retained all the flourish and drama of the original work. The opening Dawn and Storm, the lovely Pastorale, and the touchstone Finale are all there. This tour de force work comes in two different versions, one for eight players (as arranged for SETREN), and this one for large ensembles of 16 or more players (as arranged for the Eastman Trombone Choir). Both  versions have eight parts, and are intended for trombone ensembles with the highest levels of technique and musicianship.  Advanced level of difficulty, with a performance time of 11:45. The tone poem is around 11 minutes long and is one of the most famous orchestral pieces of the era. The colours work incredibly well for wind quintet, and as such this piece would make a great inclusion to any concert programme.The PDF download contains a full score and all 5 parts: flute, oboe, clarinet in A, horn in F, and bassoon. The word Lustspiel means comedy in German. The composer, known mainly for his waltzes traveled from Germany in 1874 to tour in England in 1875. This piece was a major part of his orchestra's repetoire during his 1875 concert tour. Presently, the only part of the work that is still performed is the Overture, usually for Concert Band. Mr. Terrett has done an exemplary job of ensuring the spirit of the music is intact for the Brass Quintet version.  There is life and joy in the music and fun to perform as well as listen to. For advanced performers about 7 minutes in length.

Its overture in sonata form became also a popular and challenging concert piece. The operetta premiered, conducted by the composer, on  5 April 1874 in Vienna at Theater an der Wien.
