Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1505939). Die Fledermaus (The Bat) was Johann Strauss' most successful operetta and is still today frequently performed especially on German speaking  stages. Its overture in sonata form became also a popular and challenging concert piece. The operetta premiered, conducted by the composer, on  5 April 1874 in Vienna at Theater an der Wien. The arrangement is one half tone higher than the original key of the composition for symphony  orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their  Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2016 in the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria, repeated there on 6 January  2020 and broadcasted live by Austrian television, when the arranger had to step in very shortly for the sick chief conductor Hansjoerg Angerer.  A live recording of the 2016 concert is available at  https://www.salzburg-windphilharmonic.at/de/wien-new-york-wiener-gschichten-aus-der-neuen-welt/ or https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/wien-new-york/hnum/10428731?iampartner=303&subid=umr6&ref=partner.jpc.de .

Gordon Cherry #4821555. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792411). Lustspiel was composed by the Hungarian/Czech composer/conductor Keler-Bela who was born in 1820 and died in 1882. The word Lustspiel means comedy in German. The composer, known mainly for his waltzes traveled from Germany in 1874 to tour in England in 1875. This piece was a major part of his orchestra's repetoire during his 1875 concert tour. Presently, the only part of the work that is still performed is the Overture, usually for Concert Band. Mr. Terrett has done an exemplary job of ensuring the spirit of the music is intact for the Brass Quintet version.  There is life and joy in the music and fun to perform as well as listen to. For advanced performers about 7 minutes in length.

There is a middle slower section and a return to the fast drive towards the home stretch. It ends like the beginning with a grand fanfare. I think your players and the audience will really enjoy this piece.

This overture, originally for piano, preceded a group of songs with a Chinese theme, although the music itself is strictly western. The sound bite is from measures 19 - 74. There is a charming fugue and a bright major ending. The parts, except for the flute, when printed two sided will yield accurate pagination for page turns.
