Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1312627 Composed by Aaron Gage. 21st Century,A Cappella,Latin,Renaissance. 8 pages. Aaron Gage #901478. Published by Aaron Gage (A0.1312627). Written for SSAATTBB Choir.I have long been fascinated with setting old Latin texts to music; particularly ones outside of the traditional sacred poetry found in the various requiems that have been composed throughout the centuries. Rather, I was particularly drawn to a poem written by the Roman poet Catullus. Simple in nature, the poem is only 3 phrases yet delivers a strong message of the turmoil found in the human psyche. “Odi et Amo†translates to “I hate and I loveâ€. The poem embellishes the poets struggle to balance the extremes of the human emotion and how torturous it can be to navigate 2 of our strongest emotions. The call of the opening “Odi et Amo†is repeated numerous times throughout the piece to drive home the 2 emotions of Hate and Love. The work commands exceptional precision of intonation between the 8 parts. While slow in nature though its tempo, the piece has numerous harmonic classes of 2nds to create not only tension, but a longing passion desperate for resolution. -Aaron Gage.

Violin Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.798120 Composed by Heitor Villa Lobos. Arranged by Inacio Saldanha. Contemporary. 3 pages. Inacio Saldanha #6318935. Published by Inacio Saldanha (A0.798120). Villa-Lobos composed Chôros No. 1 in Rio de Janeiro in 1920, originally publishing it under the title Chôro típico, then Chôro típico brasileiro. The title is taken from an improvisational genre of Brazilian instrumental popular music that originated in Rio de Janeiro in the nineteenth century. The Portuguese word choro, means cry or lament, though most music of this type is far from being sorrowful. Four years after composing this work, at the time of his first visit to Paris, he decided to make it part of an extended cycle of works collectively titled Chôros, which eventually included fourteen numbered compositions, plus an Introduction aux chôros (Introdução aos chôros): Ouverture, for guitar and orchestra, designed to be played before a complete performance of the cycle, and Chôros bis, a two-movement duo for violin and cello, considered as a sort of encore piece. A Quintet (em forma de chôros), for five woodwind instruments (1928) is sometimes considered as related. In the context of the larger cycle, Chôros No. 1 is like the essence, the embryo, the psychological model that will be developed technically in the conception of all the Chôros (Villa-Lobos 1972, 210).The score of Chôros No. 1 is dedicated to Ernesto Nazareth, and a recording of it made by the composer lasts just under four minutes. Unlike the successor works, there is no attempt here to synthesize different aspects of Brazilian music into a stylistic montage. Instead, it employs the patterns, figurations, and simple structure characteristic of the improvised music of such celebrated chorões of the late-nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as Zequinha de Abreu, Quincas Laranjeiras [pt], Chiquinha Gonzaga, and Catulo da Paixão Cearense [pt] (Wright 1992, 62) This simplicity and the beauty of its composition have made it a favourite with professional guitarists (Appleby 2002, 80).Originally for Guitar, adapted for Solo Violin by Inacio Saldanha. Key of E minor. Advanced.

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Multi-Percussion,Oboe - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.816703 Composed by Guy Bunce. Contemporary. Score and parts. 11 pages. Enigma Music #4984881. Published by Enigma Music (A0.816703). Entrainment (2009)Written for New NoiseOboe & PercussionEntrainment is the process by which two oscillating systems, which have different periods when they function independently, assume the same period when interacting. The principle of entrainment is universal, appearing in chemistry, pharmacology, biology, medicine, psychology, sociology, astronomy, architecture to name but a few. This piece explores the entrainment of tempo with two initially diverse tempo structures synchronising after a period of four minutes. At the start of the score the oboe begins at 137 bpm and the percussionist at 63 bpm. Over the course of the four minutes the percussionist speeds up whilst the oboist slows down resulting in the tempi synchronising at four minutes. After four minutes the two instruments begin a discourse in unison (rhythmically, melodically, and dynamically): the musical equivalent of total synchronisation. In the final section of the piece the parts diverge with the percussionist slowing down and the oboe part maintaining its speed. As with many of my pieces, the starting point for Entrainment was an external source, in this case the song Time by Pink Floyd. The rhythmic lines throughout Entrainment are based on the rhythm to the bass line of the first part of Time. This can be clearly seen in the opening in which the oboe part employs this rhythm.Harmonically Entrainment consists of a series of key centres whose period is determined by points within the four minutes where either of the two independent parts briefly synchronise at the semiquaver level with the unit of a second. At each of these points (which become more frequent as the piece progresses), the harmonic centre changes. The harmonic centres relate directly to the chord structure of Pink Floyd's Time: at each point where either part synchronises with seconds the harmonic centre in both parts moves one chord through Time's chord sequence. At 2' 19'' the percussion and oboe part synchronise (albeit briefly) for the first time. This event was used to mark the start of more polytonal harmony as both instruments from this point forward begin their own cycles through the Time chords. Throughout the piece, points of synchronisation are highlighted musically.Performance mp3 recordings that contain a dual click track for the first four minutes of the piece can be obtained by contacting guybunce@hotmail.com. The click track is arranged so that the oboe click is on the left channel and the percussion click is on the right. An alternative click track (track 3) is also provided using a different sound (a beep). The performers should wear the headphone in one ear which corresponds to the track of their part. The dual click track can then be played on a single CD player (or mp3 player) with the output going to both sets of headphones using a headphone splitter or other device. Alternatively, files can be put on either two iPods or Mp3 players. The players will then have to synchronize the beginnings of each track. It is possible to play the piece without the use of the click track(s). If this is the case, performers should use the metronome markings and general layout of the score to aid performance. It is advisable that one player (possibly the oboist) sets the tempo and tempo changes, and the other player follows. It was not always possible to represent accurately the relationship between the two parts in the score. Arrows have been added on the score to show points of synchronisation where the score layout differs.

Soprano, violin, cello and piano - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q45642 For soprano and piano trio. Composed by Thomas Larcher. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 15 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q45642. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q45642). English. In a magazine with reports on mental institutions, Thomas Larcher came across interviews with patients: 'These sentences are of a strong inner power, yet do not claim to convey an overall picture of these people. There rather appear snatches from their world like a stroboscope.' The soprano part in Larcher's composition attends to these texts in a very restraint, often introverted manner, but they continue to have an effect in the instrumental parts, like catalysts of seemingly disturbing processes. The world premiere with Juliane Banse, Christian Tetzlaff, Nikolaj Schneider and the composer on the piano took place at the renowned festival 'Spannungen' in the power station of Heimbach in 2002. Recently, a recording has been released by ECM New Series.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1103534 By Corinne Byrne, soprano and Seth Mayer, piano. By George Edward Brandon. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 21 pages. Blue Unity Music #706801. Published by Blue Unity Music (A0.1103534). George Brandon: Two Dream Poems (2020) for Soprano and Piano This piece consists of musical settings of two 20th century poems concerning the dream state: one by the American poet Gary Snyder; the other by Mavash Sabet from Iran. Gary Snyder’s poem, “Maudgalyayana Saw Hellâ€, is a complex and multilayered portrayal of a passage through the dream state, beginning with falling asleep and ending with waking up. At the same time as it describes a mythical journey and an inward psychological journey, it also presents a Buddhist metaphysical perspective in which the whole of life, and our ordinary sense of reality, appear and are questioned as dream states as well. At the time that Mavash Sabet wrote her poem “Hello Again†she was a political prisoner sentenced to twenty years in prison for her religious and educational activities. on behalf of the Bahai faith, a religion which is persecuted by Iran's theocratic government. “Hello Againâ€, from her book Prison Poems, describes a dream experience that renewed her inner sense of freedom despite being incarcerated, and provided her with strength and hope for the future. Complex but singable, intense and lyrical, these compelling songs will make a great impact in a concert or recital program. Duration: approximately 9 mins. Advanced.

String Trio Cello,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1458513 By Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. By Irving Berlin. Arranged by Homco/Crinion. 20th Century,Christmas,Film/TV,Holiday. 4 pages. Homco/Crinion #1037459. Published by Homco/Crinion (A0.1458513). Count Your Blessings was written by Irving Berlin for the 1954 film White Christmas. It is said that the lyrics were inspired by Berlin's visit to a psychiatrist. He had gone to see the doctor to get help with his insomnia, and the advice given by the doctor translated into Irving's stunning song lines! This String Trio arrangement opens with the melody in the 1st Violin part, which is than handed down to the Cello for the second statement. The 2nd Violin then plays the melody for the Reprise before both violins play it together in octaves (accompanied by arpeggios in the cello) for a grand finish.

2 violins - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q564129 Composed in the old style for King Ludwig II of Bavaria (first edition). Composed by Max Zenger. Downloadable, Score. Musikverlag Robert Lienau - Digital #Q564129. Published by Musikverlag Robert Lienau - Digital (S9.Q564129). German • English • French. For his now famous private performances, King Ludwig II of Bavaria commissioned three historical ballets. The subjects of these ballets were festivities held at the court of the French Kings Louis XIV and Louis XV, during which the respective kings held dances and shepard’s games. Ludwig II required in his ballets the strictest adherance to historical exactitude in all details of the plot. The music too was expected to be exactly in the style of the time. The Munich composer Max Zenger (1837-1911) was entrusted with the commission for the composition of the music because he was considered an outstanding connoisseur of older music. Despite of the fact that Zenger stood rather critical towards the music of Richard Wagner the King liked him and named him Royal Bavarian Professor of Music in 1882. This sonata is part of the ballet Amor and Psyche, played originally by twelve pages, it can be performed both as a violin duet and using section strings. It is of intermediate difficulty and an interesting example of historicist music at the end of the 19th century.
