To honor their 25th year, San Francisco Area's Bay Bells has commissioned this handbell setting of Pablo Beltran Ruiz's well-known mambo tune, Sway (Quien Sera). The distinctive marimba sound is heard in the malleted bass bells while the trebles carry the infectious tune. The added percussion parts really give it that Latin flavor and offer opportunities for improvisation if desired. The tempo can be altered to give the piece an upbeat groove or slowed down for a more languid version. Percussion part: Conga, Guiro & Cowbel.

Luis Demetrio and Pablo Beltran Ruiz wrote this song in 1953 as Quien Sera? (which means Who will it be?)(indicating the song was probably about something other than dancing when it began). Norman Gimbel wrote the English lyrics for it a year later (he also anglicized The Girl From Ipanema), and Dean Martin promptly recorded it on an album of the same name. It's more familiar today in its Michael Buble incarnation (from which this arrangement picks up bits and pieces). Ladies of a certain age will love it.

Pablo Beltrán Ruiz was a Mexican composer and band leader most famous for composing the Spanish language song ¿Quién será?. This was later made famous by crooner, Dean Martin, who sang the English version as 'Sway', with lyrics by Norman Gimbel.  This version was written for an instrumental trio called Motif, based in Grantham, UK.  The rhythmic drive is provided by the piano and the melodic lines are taken by the other two instruments (flute and violin).

Sway is arranged in a bolero-mambo song style.  The song was written by Mexican composers Luis Demetrio and Pablo Beltrán Ruiz.  Beltrán recorded the song for the first time with his orchestra in 1953. Pedro Infante, for whom the song was written, recorded it in 1954.

Norman Gimbel took the song, removed the somewhat melancholy Spanish lyrics about a man wondering if he shall ever love again, and wrote brand-new English lyrics about a man praising his dancing partner's ability to affect his heart with how she sways when they dance. This new song, titled Sway, has become a standard in the pop repertoire.

The first version to achieve considerable success in the United States was recorded by singer Dean Martin with the Dick Stabile orchestra in 1954.

This song is about dancing, and being infatuated with your dance partner - Martin sings that when they sway together on the dance floor she is all he sees.
