A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon in D was originally scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo playing an ostinato pattern, repeating the same harmonic preogression throughout the entire composition.Regis Bookshar has now arranged this composition for a Brass Trio, consisting of 1 Trumpet in Bb, 1 French Horn and 1 Trombone, which play the melody in canon and a Keyboard instrument, either a Piano ot Organ, which plays the ostinato pattern.
