Mixed Percussion Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1126887 Composed by G Rossini / O Respighi. Arranged by Philip Le Bas. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical. 173 pages. Philip Le Bas #727527. Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1126887). A wind decet (plus double bass) arrangement by Philip Le Bas of La Boutique Fantasque (The Fantastic Toyshop) by G. Rossini and orchestrated by O. Respighi. Actually, fantasque in French means fanciful, whimsical or even magical, and the original score is a wonderful set of pieces forming a ballet concerning a toyshop owner who creates cleverly moving puppets. In this arrangement five sections are chosen to make a chamber suite: 1) Overture 2) Mazurka 3) Tarentella 4) Pastorale 5) Can-Can The ballet is full of fun, ending with the puppets seeing off customers who want to separate two of the Can-Can dancers who are in love with each other. Think toyshop and you will understand the marching toy soldiers of the Overture, the dancing dolls of the Mazurka, the hide-and-seek chases of the Tarentella (originally a dance to ward off the tarantula), the cuddly warmth of the Pastorale, and the craziness of the Can-Can! Optional percussion (triangle, plus anything that can be bashed) has here been scored in the final movement to add to the general riotousness...

Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Children,Concert,Graduation,Romantic Period. 64 pages. RayThompsonMusic #6370067. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553962). Gabriel Pierné was born in Metz. His family moved to Paris, after Metz and part of Lorraine were annexed to Germany in 1871 following the Franco-Prussian War. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, gaining first prizes for solfège, piano, organ, counterpoint and fugue. He won the French Prix de Rome in 1882, with his cantata Edith. His teachers included Antoine François Marmontel, Albert Lavignac, Émile Durand, César Franck (for the organ) and Jules Massenet (for composition). He succeeded César Franck as organist at Sainte-Clotilde Basilica in Paris from 1890 to 1898. He himself was succeeded by another distinguished Franck pupil, Charles Tournemire. Associated for many years with Édouard Colonne's concert series, the Concerts Colonne, from 1903, Pierné became chief conductor of this series in 1910.His most notable early performance was the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird, at the Ballets Russes, Paris, on 25 June 1910. He remained in the post until 1933 (when Paul Paray took over his duties). This arrangement is taken from his album of 6 short  pieces: originally written for piano, and later transcribed by him, for small orchestra (English Translation: Album for my little friends (Children)Movts are:Pastorale FarandoleLa Veillée de l'ange gardien (The vigil of the Guardian Angel)Petite gavotteChanson d'autrefois (Song of olden times)Marche des petits soldats de plomb (March of the Lead Soldiers)The pastorale is the version arranged by Pierné, all other 5 mats are mine.Alternative bb and F horns are provided.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1463113 Composed by Giuseppe Torelli. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Baroque,Christmas. 10 pages. RayThompsonMusic #1041866. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1463113). Alternative Title: Concerto à Quattro, in forma di Pastorale per il Santo NataleOften known as his Christmas ConcertoArranged standard string quartet.Giuseppe Torelli (1658–1709) wrote numerous and often imposing symphonies for use in the San Petronio Cathedral in Bologne well before the turn of the century. Furthermore, he was the first composer to write a concerto for solo violin and string orchestra (published at Augsburg, 1698), and his Concerti Grossi Op 8, which appeared in print shortly after his death, are the very first concertos for two solo violins. It is the sixth of these that contains the Christmas music. A solemn ‘Grave’ sets the scene for the Pastorale, marked ‘Vivace’ and cast in 12/8 metre, the two solo violins carrying much of the melodic interest. A meditative Largo leads to another ‘Vivace’ which is a Gavotte en Musette in all but name, its held bass notes strongly suggesting the drone of the shepherds’ pipes. This is my arrangement of the 1st movement.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533493 Composed by Ali Ben Sou Alle. Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 15 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3000187. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533493). Souvenirs d’Île Maurice begins with a lyrical pastorale in 12/8 time which features chromatic harmonies in the piano. The Rondo section presents first a Waltz theme in minor mode and then reprises the pastorale theme which is then varied in several brilliant passages. One of the most enigmatic figures in the history of the Saxophone, Ali Ben Sou Alle (Charles-Valentin Soualle) was born in1820 in Arras, France. After receiving his first prize in Clarinet at the Paris Conservatory in 1844. he served as the director ofmusic of The French Marine Band in Senegal, and then was named first clarinet solo at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. However, after the Revolution of 1848, Soualle was forced to flee France to England where he settled in London, playing in the Orchestra of the Queen's Theatre. His songs and piano pieces were published in London. While in London, Soualle met another exiled French musician, Louis Antoine Jullien, who conducted a light music series inLondon. Jullien encouraged Soualle to take up the saxophone, and after modifying the instrument by adding a single octavemechanism (the modern system used today) and keys for the lower register, Soualle became known as a virtuoso and begantouring performing solo recitals (or mono-concerts, as they were called at the time) calling his modified saxophone the«turcophone ». He performed in all the European capitals and then traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Manilla, Java, throughChina and then to India where he finally settled in Mysore, becoming the director of the Royal Music for the Maharadjah. It wasduring this period that he converted to Islam and changed his nmae to Ali ben Sou Alle (or Ali, son of Soualle). Hesubsequently travaled to Ile Maurice, to French Polynesia, the Cap of Natal and the Cap of Good Hope. All of these voyageswere subjects of musical works which Soualle entitled Souvenirs de... and may perhaps have been part of a collection knownas The Royal Album which was presented to the Prince of Wales after a royal concert. Soualle returned to Mysore in 1858 and was almost killed in the Indian Revolution.Around 1860, Soualle returned to France for health reasons and began publishing his own music. On March 27 1865, heperformed a command performance for the Emperor Napoleon III at the Tuileries Palace in the presence of the entire ImperialFamily. After 1865, nothing more is known about him.

A Clarinet,Bassoon,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe,Piccolo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1319293 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Chamber,Folk. 50 pages. RayThompsonMusic #907927. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1319293). A Somerset Rhapsody Op.21Arranged symphonic wind dectet/bass(Double wind quintet)NB Clarinets in A as in original orchestra (Parts in Bb also provided)Holst: A Somerset Rhapsody, Op. 21, was composed by Gustav HOLST in 1906, and was dedicated to Cecil Sharp, the renowned collector of English folksong music. It began as a work for orchestra called Folk Songs of Somerset, making use of 10 songs from the collections of Sharp. That work (on manuscript)was rediscovered in 2017 in New Zealand Holst reworked four of the tunes from that piece into the Rhapsody:The Sheep-Shearing Song (also known as It’s a Rosebud in June), invokes idyllic pastoral settings and is played at the beginning by the oboe d’amore (English Horn in the wind band version). High Germany, is a song about marching off to war, and is also used by Holst’s colleague, Ralph Vaughan Williams, in his own Folk Song Suite.True Love’s Farewell, is a song about lovers saying goodbye, and is sometimes also known as Ten Thousand Miles. The final tune used is The Cuckoo.Curiously, The Cuckoo does not seem to be recognised as one of the folk tunes used in this piece...the program note in the transcription refers only to the three other folk melodies, and many program notes omit any reference to The Cuckoo whatsoever.Though not a programmatic work, the composer once divulged to a colleague that the work told a story:Into a quiet country scene comes the sound of approaching soldiers. A youth who is courting a girl is persuaded to enlist and go to war. The soldiers march into the distance and the pastoral quietness returns. The girl is left alone.â€It works well for wind dectet.
